Pemberville is a village located on the banks of the Portage River in Wood County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,365 at the 2000 census.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the village has a total area of 1.1 square miles (2.9 km²), all of it land.

History

The village is named after James Pember, who built the first frame house in town. Pemberville was incorporated on December 20, 1876.[1]

Demographics

As of the censusTemplate:GR of 2000, there were 1,365 people, 541 households, and 374 families residing in the village. The population density was 1,232.7 people per square mile (474.8/km²). There were 560 housing units at an average density of 505.7/sq mi (194.8/km²). The racial makeup of the village was 95.68% White, 0.29% Native American, 2.64% from other races, and 1.39% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 5.13% of the population.

There were 541 households out of which 34.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.3% were married couples living together, 8.7% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.7% were non-families. 27.7% of all households were made up of individuals and 13.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.52 and the average family size was 3.07.

In the village the population was spread out with 27.0% under the age of 18, 7.8% from 18 to 24, 27.9% from 25 to 44, 22.0% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 89.1 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.6 males.

The median income for a household in the village was $50,938, and the median income for a family was $57,361. Males had a median income of $40,050 versus $26,944 for females. The per capita income for the village was $20,248. About 2.1% of families and 3.4% of the population were below the poverty line, including 2.8% of those under age 18 and 4.9% of those age 65 or over.

Library

The Pemberville Public Library serves the communities in eastern Wood County from its administrative offices in Pemberville and branches in Stony Ridge and Luckey. In 2006, the library loaned 105,183 items and provided 348 programs to its patrons. Total holdings in 2006 were over 64,000 volumes with 240 periodical subscriptions. [2]
