This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 92.237.184.239 (talk) at 00:06, 31 January 2009. The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Current requests

Chris Leonidou → L07chleo3

  •  Clerk note: It is not possible to merge accounts, but it may simply be that the request for the accounts to be 'merged' is a mistake, since the latter account does not exist. neuro(talk) 02:11, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Chris, you must be referring to User:L07ChLeo3...But I am still confused by the request. Do you want User:L07ChLeo3 to become User:Chris Leonidou, perhaps? Kingturtle (talk) 16:19, 24 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Not done no response. RlevseTalk 03:04, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

AQu01rius → Alessa

  • SoxBot has evaluated this request, and a problem(s) was found. Although the requested username exists, the user has not made any contributions to Wikipedia. Therefore, you can place a request to usurp the username at WP:USURP. SoxBot VI (talk) 11:03, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: User:Alessa already exists. Was that your creation? If you want to retire User:AQu01rius into obscurity, we can change it to a generic unused name. Kingturtle (talk) 12:50, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: Or if you want to keep your account history tied to Alessa, make the request on WP:USURP to have the account usurped by the new account, then log into both accounts and sign the request. (Continue to use the old account to make any edit changes, you don't want to create any GDLF significant edits with the Alessa account... but based upon the fact that the Alessa account is 3 years old, I'm guessing it isn't you. In which case you can place a usurp request to get it.)---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 16:48, 25 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 Not done -- Andre (talk) 02:38, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

David the Dogman → Walker the Wolfman.

Clerk note: I just blocked David the Dograt as a vandalism only and for making legal threats. The account was created yesterday, so despite his claims, David the Dogman actually had his user name first.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 19:52, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  •  Bureaucrat note:If you're happy now to continue with this username, please let us know. If you don't respond here, we'll eventually assume that's the case, in a few days. In the meantime, if anyone makes threats of any kind to you on Wikipedia, please note that we do not tolerate that. Please inform an admin through WP:ANI, an individual admin's talk page or by sending an email to an admin. --Dweller (talk) 20:32, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
 Clerk note: I left a message on his talk page earlier...---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 22:06, 27 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Casurr1 → Happy

Not done The name Happy (talk · contribs) is already taken. As the account has but a few edits, and from a long time ago, it might be usurpable; to do so, place a request at Wikipedia:Changing username/Usurpations. Kingturtle (talk) 02:47, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: Happy exists on numerous wiki's (eg most if not all), while no SUL exists, it may be that this is either a very popular user name OR that somebody created numerous accounts on the different wiki's before SUL's came into being.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 19:47, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CURRENT → NEW

  • Please fill out this template correctly, replacing CURRENT with your current username.
  • Please fill out this template correctly, replacing NEW with your requested username.
  • Previous renames: current user, target user, Queue: open req, closed req
  • For global renamer: rename user
  • Reason: Reason for requested renaming. Sallydonal (talk) 19:17, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I didn't realise my name would e visible and this will create danger for me. Please please change it. Regards Sallydonal…

  • SoxBot has evaluated this request, and renaming appears to be possible. SoxBot VI (talk) 19:18, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note:To what? Putting message on requestors talk page---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 19:37, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

{{subst:Renameuser Sallydonal Gretchen |3 = Reason for requested renaming. }} 79.65.73.32 (talk)

Sorry Got confused. As I said before I would be in danger if my name was visible.

Clerk note: So you want your new name to be Gretchen? If so, user Gretchen already exists and has made about 100 edits, thus is probably not USURPABLE, but if you want that name, you need to A) log in and B) make a request at WP:USURP, you would probably be better served with another name, especially if you are looking for a quick change as USURP takes some time.---Balloonman PoppaBalloon 19:55, 29 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Not done Target has almost 500 edits and you have only a dozen or so. Also, you may want to see WP:CHUU or pick a name with no edits.RlevseTalk 03:04, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On the contrary. When you added the "not done", the request was from Fredbang to fredbang (here). Useight (talk) 00:01, 31 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Fredbang → Fredbarry

Clerk note: If you'd like, you may have your username appear lowercase by adding {{lowercase}} to your userpage. Useight (talk) 22:30, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Done If you want your username to appear lowercase, just put {{lowercase}} on your userpage. bibliomaniac15 22:44, 30 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
