I will focus more on off-Wikipedia issues until after the Indian general election, 2009. I may come back earlier but that's unlikely unless either the workload subsides or I feel motivated enough to edit again, whichever comes first :) |

Great work. I noticed a reassessment request on WP India's Assessment dept page, the top grade the list can get from the WP India is "List". Nominate the article at WP:Featured list, the top grade a list can get in wikipedia. I suggest you initiate a WP:peer review, before the Featured List nomiantion. --Redtigerxyz Talk 13:16, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
- Hi again. Sorry to disturb. Pls see my addition on SLS in the Indian inventions article. The refs may not be as great as the others but I believe for now it would suffice. Your input is welcomed there and in this Same language subtitling article I created. Enjoy! Exxoo (talk) 19:57, 9 February 2009 (UTC)
- What do u think about the SLS addition? Do they constitute reliable sources in your opinion? I have also just included Simputer to the list of inventions. Pls have a look to see if it's appropriate. Exxoo (talk) 19:42, 16 February 2009 (UTC)
- No problem JSR. Do one at a time. There's no hurry. I tried but couldn't find any book references for SLS, and as such had to go ahead using weblinks. I fully understand what you mean "bringing into question the article's integrity", but I believe that those links are fine and that's why I'm asking a second opinion from a quality editor like you. As for Simputer I managed to get some pretty good book sources, however I also had to include 2 weblinks as a citation for its current status. You finish your job in the "Education in India" page first, then have a look at these two additions when time's on your side, and advice on the next course of action. Take care. Exxoo (talk) 18:39, 17 February 2009 (UTC)
- SLS - If you wanna insert the books co-authored by Kothari, then please feel free to do so. However I wouldn't recommend citing a source that is authored by the inventor / innovator himself. WP:PSTS says "Wikipedia articles should rely mainly on published reliable secondary sources and, to a lesser extent, on tertiary sources. All interpretive claims, analyses, or synthetic claims about primary sources must be referenced to a secondary source, rather than original analysis of the primary-source material by Wikipedia editors." Although it doesn't disallow the use of primary source, it's clearly discouraged. And that's why I don't feel comfortable using it.
- Simputer - The description I gave in the article is basically split into 2 parts. The first is the part that talks about its history (e.g. who invented, when etc.). This is sourced from 2 book sources. The second part is about its present use/status. I couldn't source this from books so I had to use news sites. I personally don't think that's a problem because the important part (i.e. about the invention itself) is well sourced.
- Additional sources - Noted them, thanks. Will use it as referencing for any future additions.
- Asbestos - I did a quick search on asbestos and the first confirmed record of the material does not seem to be India. Anyway I'm still researching, and if you have any source that definitively links its earliest mention / use to India, please let me know. What do you think about spoon? Apparently one of the earliest mention comes from the Rig Veda. It looks promising but I'm still doing some more research. If you have any material please share it.
- Another thing is I'm in favour of removing joint innovations e.g. Pati-Salam model, Wilson-Bappu effect etc. because this is not exclusively Indian. Actually for joint contributions I can insert many more but I don't think it is the best for the article. Lets concentrate on solely Indian inventions, innovationa and discoveries for now. What do u think?
- I'm actually out of town right now and I'm sending this from an internet café. Will do a further check up on both as soon as I'm back home. Sorry for the slow response from my side. In the mean time please feel free to make any changes u feel is appropriate. We can discuss if we have differing viewpoints. Exxoo (talk) 18:09, 21 February 2009 (UTC)
HI JSR, sorry for the silence. I am currently out of my country for holiday. I’ll will take some time to be back. In the mean time please look after the Indian inventions and discoveries page. I have some plans for the page but can only implement once I’m back. It won’t take too long though. I don’t have my laptop with me so access is limited. I gotta use from a cyber café. Take care. - Random things, in case you forgot, but likely you just haven't gotten around to it
- Girls and castes. You should explain the situation before telling people that they are targeted for extra assistance
- Status of private schools, church schools etc
- Need to explain whether IIT being "important -> more money? more research funding?
- Literacy rates need discussion, initiatives, backwardness in Bihar/UP etc.
- Business partnerships with universities?
- Are there pay degrees in India -> ie can pay more money to get admittance if you fail entrance exams
- Political interference issues? Historical revisionism of textbooks to appease certain groups or whatever...

- I read through it and it seems OK for a start. I'm really sorry I cannot help much with the facts because I'm not familiar with education in India; I've never studied there nor have I read much on the topic. However I made some minor changes which if you don't favour you can revert. By the way good job on the article overhaul... actually reconstruction :)!! Exxoo (talk) 13:20, 7 February 2009 (UTC)

- I went through and made a few correctons, tried to improve the text a little so the English is a little more international while still preserving most of the Indian English usage. There's a lot of over-treferencing here, with nearly every sentence having an in-text citation, but then again there are a lot of stats quoted and they do need to be directly referenced. I'd agree the leading paragrapgh needs to be imprved, with less nubers on the improved recent standards and more on the structure. Mdw0 (talk) 01:14, 12 February 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for your messages and for your edits everyone. I really appreciate it since I could not do as much as I should have since the last few days. Once again thank you :) JSR 0562 18:06, 15 February 2009 (UTC)
Large numbers
I noticed you've taken the commas out of all the large numbers. I think personally this makes them a lot more difficult to read and the Manual of Style agrees with me. Are you OK to put them back of should I do it? Mdw0 (talk) 02:27, 19 February 2009 (UTC)

I'll be there soon. Can you help keep an eye on the SL cricket attack page. One Pakistani user is adding conspiracy theories about India as always. YellowMonkey (click here to vote for world cycling's #1 model!) 07:46, 4 March 2009 (UTC)

See also links
I am not sure I understand the selection criterion for the links in the See also section of History_of_Indian_science_and_technology#See_also article ? Are the listed countries, empires etc chosen for some specific reason, or are they more-or-less random picks from Category:Science and technology by country, Category:History of science and discoveries by region and Category:Science_and_technology_in_China ?
By the way, I added Indian mathematics and Indian astronomy to the see also list since they are parallel overview article that a casual reader, who has not read through the whole article, may find useful. Also, I agree with your view on Vedic science, and added a link to Vedic science only because that page provides further links to related articles. I am fine if these links are left out, and am more curious about the logic behind the current links.
This minor issue aside, I must say I am greatly impressed with the work you have done in this area. Wikipedia can certainly use more editors like you. Regards. Abecedare (talk) 05:24, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
- Within the article the {{Science in India}} template has science links that one needs to navigate, including the mathematics and astronomy link. The other links were laid out so that those interested in history of science in general may find other regional articles to enjoy. Vedic science is more of an invented modern concept and is, in my opinion, best left out since it compromises not only the integrity of a science article but may also affect its stability to some extent. Wishing you the best, JSR 0562
- Thanks for your reply.
- I agree that since the science and astronomy links are in the {{Science in India}} template, including them in the see also section serves no purpose. I am also ambivalent about the Vedic science link, since I see how that can be magnet for fringe POV pushers.
- However I am still not convinced that the current links in th See also section are appropriate or relevant. For example, how can we justify linking to articles about Australian, Swedish, Korean, German or Canadian inventions; three links to science in US; or 5 links related to science in China ? I think it would be better to have a blank see also section, but I am not going to revert you or insist on this since this is a minor issue, and it would be better to spend our time developing the article content for now. Such issues can be reexamined once the article is raised to at least the GA status.
- More importantly: What do you think about moving the article to History of Indian science and technology ? It is better to avoid using the ambiguous adjective Indian in article titles (given Wikipedia worldwide audience), and use the "X in India" formulation instead. Any objections to such a move ? Abecedare (talk) 06:17, 21 March 2009 (UTC) You can reply here since I have your talk page watchlisted now.
None at all. In fact, I moved 'Science and technology in ancient India' (original title) to 'History of science and technology in India' on 24 July 2008 since the article dealt with more than just 'ancient history' and extended to both the medieval and colonial eras. It was moved to Science and technology in ancient India by Bhadaniji (25 July 2008). After having discussed with him and after obtaining his consent I moved the article to the present form on 26 July 2008. JSR 0562 06:43, 21 March 2009 (UTC)
Architecture of India
Hi there. You deleted two sections (Pallavas and Cholas) from Architecture of India without an edit summary. The Cholas section had references and the other had links to UNESCO heritage sites. Was it a mistake? Please explain the reason. (Please reply on this page itself.I will have a watch on it.) --Belasd (talk) 18:48, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
- Done. There were a total of 3 citations for the large amount of text I removed. One of the 3 was an unsourced detail while the other lacked anything except the author and the date. I have removed the text due to lack of inline citations and poor quality of unsourced content. Sincerely, JSR 0562 19:16, 22 March 2009 (UTC)
- Thanks for the explanation. Me not knowing much about architecture. But I got a little worried seeing a huge deletion on my watchlist. See you around then! -Belasd (talk) 04:31, 23 March 2009 (UTC)
Image arrangement
Please do not pile up all images at the start of the article that leads to piling up of all "edit" tabs that you see in section titles, in some browsers. Also please do not increase the size of the images unnecessarily, see Forced image size in WP:IMAGE. --Redtigerxyz Talk 16:00, 29 March 2009 (UTC)

Indian Cinema
Hi,
Tamil Cinema is NOT a regional cinema. Tamil Diaspora in Srilanka, Singapore, Malaysia, Canada, South Africa and Australia view Tamil cinema and live Tamil music, though they are different nationals. Also, most of good hindi movies are remade from Tamil. From todays Ghajini to yester generations Engaveetu pillai, most of them are remade. Please dont try to suppress the popularity of tamil cinema by just vandalising this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Guru coolguy (talk • contribs) 19:00, 10 April 2009 (UTC)
- Looks like user: Guru coolguy left me these compliments. His contributions clearly reveal that he likes adding Tamil cinema to the extent of creating a Hollywood of the east redirect for it. He has been warned on his talk page and these kind of messages further convince me that a break is needed.
