UFC 2009 Undisputed is a mixed martial arts video game featuring Ultimate Fighting Championship properties and fighters currently in development by Yuke's Osaka and to be published by THQ. The game is slated to be released on May 19, 2009 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. It is the first game to be released under THQ's 2007 agreement with the UFC, and it is to be the first UFC game released since UFC: Sudden Impact in 2004. A playable demo of UFC 2009 is due to be released onto Xbox Live and Playstation Network on 23rd April 2009.
Gameplay
In a contrast to Yukes' pro-wrestling games, the new UFC game is described as a realistic mixed martial arts simulator by its developers. Over 100 UFC personalities will be featured, with over 80 of them being fighters from all five weight classes. An early trailer from June 2008 showed non-fighters such as broadcasters Mike Goldberg and Joe Rogan, fight announcer Bruce Buffer, NSAC referee Mario Yamasaki, ring girl Arianny Celeste, cutman "Stitch" Duran and cornerman Juanito Ibarra. Models are highly-detailed with over 30,000 polygons used for fighter models. [3]
Fighting styles
The Developers at Yuke's Osaka are including 6 major fighting styles in UFC 2009 undisputed, which include: Boxing, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, Judo, Kickboxing, Muay Thai and Wrestling. These styles are placed into two categories, allowing a character to have two of these abilities. Boxing, Muay Thai and Kickboxing is one category, and the other consists of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Wrestling and Judo.
Boxing dates all the way back to ancient Greece, and it uses complex foot manoeuvres and quick jabs to mount a powerful offense. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is developed in taking down the bigger opponents. It is a derivative of Japanese Judo and it focuses on grappling and ground fighting using leverage, positioning and technique. Judo is a fighting style, mostly used in Japan (which striking is not allowed, that is definitely not a problem in the UFC) and this Japanese martial art emphasizes on throwing your opponent. Kickboxing is a fighting style that integrates boxing punches and martial art kicks. Muay Thai, also known as Thai Boxing utilizes elbows, knees and low kicks and clinching. Wrestling is the oldest sport known to man, it consists of taking down your opponent using hand-to-hand maneuvers and no striking blows. The game will also feature downloadable content.
