Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Current requests

Cinemalumiere → Cinemalu

I think that perhaps a username entirely different from your current one would be for the best. In addition, please note that your username is a secondary problem; the main one is that you're linking to this site inappropriately, given your username. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 06:49, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sardaka → Clytemnestra

Bureaucrat note: Is there another username that you'd prefer? You could try to usurp the account, but that'll take another week, which is hardly an ideal option if you're actively being stalked. EVula // talk // // 22:05, 19 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Diabetes.victoria → Justinehodge

NorthwesternMagazine → Summer Temp 1

TxmCxlx → TxzCxzx

Bureaucrat note: But the name you're request is similar to your current one. Wouldn't then your new name still be too similar to the unmentioned other one? Kingturtle (talk) 03:03, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Jmrosier → Ampon

Clerk note: Please file your request at WP:CHU/SUL, which is a page for single-user login issues. King of 22:38, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
thank you, i am going right now ! --ampon (talk) 06:57, 29 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

LiberalCatholicChurch → WilliamDelahunt

Clerk note: Are you aware of (and comfortable with) the potential implications associated with using a real name? JavertI knit sweaters, yo! 20:55, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

A.V.R-Team → Alcante

This actually is my old account (created on 2 November 2007 at 10:00), so I think it's better to come back to old one. I already used password remembering procedure and now both accounts have the same password in MD5 value or whatever form it's stored in your DB(s) as proof. Please move info to old acc & delete A.V.R-Team. —Preceding unsigned comment added by A.V.R-Team (talkcontribs) 21:09, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Bureaucrat note: So, if I'm understanding you correctly, you've gotten access to "Alcante" again, so you don't need to be renamed, correct? We can't "delete" your current "A.V.R-Team" account, but you can simply stop using it. EVula // talk // // 22:08, 27 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yup, that's so, but I maked some pages under new account.. Can it be transfered to old one..? o.O If so, then how..?

Bureaucrat note: No, I'm sorry, but we can't merge accounts. You can, however, tag the old account with {{FormerAccount}}, so that people can at least see that the edits by A.V.R-Team were done by the same person that edits as Alcante. Another option, I suppose, would be to rename "A.V.R-Team" to something similar to "Alcante" (like "Alcante (alt)") so that it more closely identifies your old account with your new one. Miltboutte → 13iG (r0vv

Clerk note: The new username may be hard for others to type or remember. Are you sure you want to pick that one? King of 04:03, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Bureaucrat note: Are you abandoning this account and wishing for it to disappear? Kingturtle (talk) 04:09, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
