Changing username/Simple
This page is a forum in which users can request, and global renamers (including stewards) can consider and carry out, requests to rename accounts to usernames that are not yet taken on any Wikimedia project. While global renamers carry out renames, other users (including bots) help by "clerking" the mechanics of this process. If you wish to help as a clerk, please read the linked page carefully.

Instructions
For help 'vanishing' from Wikipedia,
please see courtesy vanishing.

Once you have decided on the name you would like:

  1. Read this page first. You must be aware of, and understand, all of that information before requesting a username change
  2. Check to make sure this username is not already in use. Do this by searching for the name here. If the name appears in the results, even if on another Wikimedia project, it is taken.
  3. Do not create an account under the new name or move/redirect your userpages. We'll do that for you.
  4. Log in with your present username in order to place your request. Renames will not be approved if the requester is not logged in.
  5. Click here to place your request.
    • Add your desired username after NEW=
    • Add a reason for the change after REASON=
    • Do not change anything after CURRENT=
  6. Make sure that you have spelt your desired name correctly, including capitalization and spacing. Save the page. If your request is submitted malformed, please remedy it according to this page.
  7. Check back on this page periodically to answer any questions that may arise regarding your request. Please be patient. It may take a few days for your request to be completed. If you do not answer any questions, your request may be declined due to no response.
  8. Once your request has been completed, please do not remove or change your request. It will be archived automatically by a bot.
  • Requests that do not adhere to these instructions or that are grossly malformed are subject to removal.

Important Notes After you are renamed...
  • Due to technical limitations, usernames may not start with a lowercase letter. However, you may use the template {{lowercase title}} on your user and user talk pages, and change your signature to reflect your preference.
  • Underscores and spaces are considered identical by the MediaWiki software.
  • Use of a company, organization, group, website, or product name as a username is prohibited by the username policy.
  • Please understand the implications of using your real name before requesting a name change to it.
  • ... your name will be changed to the new one in the page history of every page you've edited.
  • ... your userpage and any subpages will be moved to the new name automatically. Please do not attempt to move them yourself.
  • ... links left by your previous signatures will still point to the old userpage; however, a redirect will be left behind to your new userpage.
  • ... your request will be automatically moved to the archives in the interest of transparency.

Current requests

一舊雲 → cloudycalvin

Joel_Lindley → Joel_Kirk

  •  Clerk note: Once you've revealed your legal name, you're not gonna be able to go anonymous. Log actions will permit those who have an interest in fonding you to do so. -Jeremy (v^_^v Tear him for his bad verses!) 19:45, 18 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
O....K. So, am I still able to change my username and page? Or is there someway to change my userpage if the old name is blocked? (Whether or not someone could find me is somewhat beside the point; I'm interested in changing my username and page and worrying about everything else later).--Joel Lindley (talk) 06:17, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You are able to change your username, but the part where you say "until I choose to go anonymous" would be basically rendered moot by the first rename. bibliomaniac15 20:51, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Kwik → Kwik

Clerk note: Target and current username appear to be the same (at least I can't tell any difference between them). Please clarify the username you wish to change to. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 22:59, 23 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I would have that account because I would use it for my global account and the account Kwik here has made 2 edits in 2004, so I think that Kwik is inactive. 82.171.135.111 (talk) 07:37, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Clerk note: If you do not already have a username, you will need to register and login. If you already have a username, then you will need to login. Then request to usurp the current account. Please note that the account you want to usurp should have no edits or significant log entries on any Wikimedia Project to qualify for usurpation, although rare exceptions are made where old edits do not require attribution under the GFDL. ···日本穣? · 投稿 · Talk to Nihonjoe 07:48, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chriss84 → Schlag.tel

Hendaj → IC_Trees

Is IC Trees the name of a company? WJBscribe (talk) 12:30, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clerk note: Moved from WP:CHU/U. Also, are you aware of (and comfortable with) the potential implications associated with using a real name? →javért breakaway

Momrha → KILCONNELL

Dalejenkins → Dale

  • SoxBot Beta has evaluated this request, and a problem(s) was found. Target username exists, and it has edits, deleted edits, and/or log edits. SoxBot (talk) 16:43, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There is a User:Dale on the English Wikipedia, thought that account has no edits (so this request should really be at WP:CHU/U). There are also users called Dale on other projects - the one with most edits contributes to the Japanese language Wikipedia. Are you User:Dale on the Japanese language Wikipedia? WJBscribe (talk) 17:23, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If I am reading the language right, the jawiki Dale hasn't edited since 2007, so I doubt they are the same person. MBisanz talk 17:39, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

DrErikaTS → Erika Schwartz MD

Clerk note: Moved from WP:USURP. Also, I'm a little concerned about this request as the user's only edits are self-promotional. Please note that WP:COI and WP:SPAM still apply, no matter what your username is. →javért breakaway 02:34, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

RhomeTea → Slargen1961

Okay. As long as you avoid promotional material and make sure you respect WP:COI, there should not be a problem here. Are you quite sure you're comfortable having a real name and birth date in your username? It's not unusual to have this as your username, but it's best that you're informed of the potential implications. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 11:11, 26 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nhgfc → Neil robinson100

Prettygirl_77 → Prettygirl_77

Sita manu → MikeDogma

Bureaucrat note: I have moved the pages back. If this rename is carried out, your user and user talk pages will be moved. Please expound upon why you are requesting rename; "db-user" is not making much sense to me. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 13:21, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Siouxsherat → Chronic Illness ~ Sarcoidosis

Bureaucrat note: You are not required to have a username that reflects the material you are writing about. There is nothing particularly wrong with your request, but I think you should be aware of this fact. —Anonymous DissidentTalk 13:06, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

IFWEA → Manuela_Muelleder

Reason: My legal name is Manuela Muelleder, and I want my page to reflect that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by IFWEA (talkcontribs) 14:40, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
