The 2009 American League Division Series are two best-of-five game series to determine the participating teams in the 2009 American League Championship Series. The three divisional winners and a fourth team—a "Wild Card"—will play in two series scheduled to begin on October 7 or 8 and finish no later than October 14. TBS will carry all games in the USA. The team that finishes with the best record in the American League will be allowed to choose between playing an eight-day series (with three off days) or a seven-day series (with two off days). They cannot choose the opponent, however. [1]
