References: This episode is a reference to the 1931 film, Frankenstein. Also, the 1.21 gigawatts of electricity needed in a spell is an allusion to the 1.21 gigawatts required to power the time machine in Back to the Future.

Special Guest Stars: Moises Arias as Max's Conscience, Fred Willard as Stuffleby
Co-starring: Dennis Hadley as Fakeahorseus

Note: In a rarity for a Disney Channel series, the tag scene in this episode, in which Selena Gomez, David Henrie, Jake T. Austin, and Jennifer Stone ("acting" as themselves) get guest star Moises Arias to take a picture of them, breaks the fourth wall of the set. During the show Alex sings the melody to She'll Be Coming Round the Mountain When She Comes to help her memorize spells. She finds out that singing songs is a good way to learn spells. The tune that Justin uses to learn his spells is the Barney theme song (though listed in closed captions as "Yankee Doodle"), which Selena Gomez was in when she was seven. In one scene, Max was seen holding a Nintendo DS original. This is part one of the saga advertised as "The Chronicles of Moises: Voice of Reason!". When Jerry says, "...it feels like just yesterday you were turning a brick into a rabbit" Justin's reply was, "Edgebono utoosis". Edgebono utoosis is a duplication spell, as seen in Crazy Ten Minute Sale (The proper spell would probably be "Murietta Animata" from Alex's Spring Fling or "This brick is now not, a guinea pig should fill its slot" from Report Card, although Alex is the one who turns a white dove into a brick in that episode.), though it could be that Justin agreed with his dad, duplicating (agreeing) the way his dad felt, and saying it in a spell to go along with the theme that he finally finished his dependent studies. Edgebono Utoosis is a reference to the Irish rock band U2. Edge referring to The Edge and Bono referring to Bono. When Justin announces to Alex that he has chosen monster hunting as an independent study, Alex says, "Good, then you can round up all of your ex-girlfriends!". Indeed, many of Justin's dates have been monsters: Isabella, a werewolf, the centaur seen in the ending of "Beware Wolf", Tutor, a half-elf, and now Juliet, a vampire. Also while not a monster, one of his previous girlfriends was goth.

  • When Justin and Juliet get trapped in the display case, you can see a statue of what appears to be Indiana Jones.
  • This is the third and final part of the saga advertised as "The Chronicles of Moises: Voice of Reason!".
  • Strangely, Juliet tells Justin that sunlight will kill her, when she was shown walking outside in broad daylight several times with no apparent ill effects during the "Wizards vs. Vampires" saga. However, as Juliet's vampiric development has been rather slow (she has only recently become capable of transforming into a full bat, and her fangs are just starting to come in), it could be possible that she has only recently inherited this weakness.
  • The statue in the exhibit where Juliet and Justin are standing is posed one way in a scene, and another way in the next scene.
  • This is possibly the last apperance of Juliette

After Harper wins a marathon, she discovers that Alex used magic to help her win every competition since they were very young, including the marathon. Upset that she never really won anything on her own, Alex decides to let Harper do all the contests again from the past in order to have the opportunity to win without the aid of magic, though things go wrong when Harper proves to be completely incompetent in everything. Meanwhile Justin decides to enter the marathon so he can be the first Russo to win an athletic trophy.

Spells: Gnip Gnop, Hippity Hop, run 26.2 miles, then stop - makes you run faster.

Note: While Alex mentions that she doesn't have an alarm clock, the opening sequence shows that she does have one. When Alex's dad is giving a girl the word in the Spelling Bee, the word is "Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia." This is the fear of long words. She is said to be correct, but the girl spells it incorrectly, using "F" in place of "PH". In another show of Max's seemingly low intelligence, he actually misspells his own name.

Guest starring: Dan Benson as Zeke
