Byline on your blog post
Catherine,
I'd like to post your blog entry "Why Wikipedia matters" - thanks for submitting it. Can you add a byline, e.g. "Catherine Munro is a [profession] from [location] and has been a Wikipedia contributor since [date]"? (Feel free to alter the format.) Thanks, --Eloquence* 18:47, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
Thanks :-). I've made some minor edits, and renamed it to "Why Wikipedia Matters"; hope that's OK. It's now posted!--Eloquence* 03:08, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Clarifiers in disambiguation pages
Hello, CatherineMunro. After doing some research, I have found out that you were one of the participants in the discussion here about whether clarifiers (or Parenthetical Disambiguation Terms, PDTs, as I now call them—I didn't really know the simple term) should be italicised. The discussion has resulted in the current guideline on disambiguation page links, but there is a discussion taking place here about whether names of works, like Star Wars and Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which are normally italicised, should also be italicised within the clarifiers. Your input would certainly be appreciated. Waltham, The Duke of 15:56, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Taft family
Thanks so much for restoring the Taft family page. I'm still puzzled as to how/why it was disappeared. Acsenray (talk) 20:42, 28 March 2008 (UTC)

For this! That means a lot to me, coming from someone I regard highly, -- and who has been here even longer than me. Best regards, Antandrus (talk) 03:45, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
Why mark me as retired?
Hi! When you marked me as "retired", it had only been 3 days since my last contribution to Wikipedia. I'm certainly not retired. Capmango (talk) 18:35, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
- Apology accepted! And I can see how the text of my user page makes it sound like I have retired. But I haven't given up on making contributions to Wikipedia, I have given up on Wikipedia fulfilling what I see as its potential. Capmango (talk) 18:32, 5 June 2008 (UTC)
Proposed deletion of Nancy Baym
A proposed deletion template has been added to the article Nancy Baym, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}}
notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.
Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. Do you want to opt out of receiving this notice? KenWalker | Talk 05:28, 29 June 2008 (UTC)

Image copyright problem with Image:Image-John taylor single cover I Do What I Do.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Image-John taylor single cover I Do What I Do.jpg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check
- That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
- That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.
This is an automated notice by FairuseBot. For assistance on the image use policy, see Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. --FairuseBot (talk) 00:29, 16 September 2008 (UTC)
Seashell and related
Dear Catherine, Thanks for your note on my talk page. Until I got your note I did not realize that Martin had merged Animal shell as well as Seashell into Exoskeleton and Mollusc shell. You are certainly right that creating a good large-scope overview article is a real challenge. It is also true that the related topics in that part of Wikipedia were overlapping in messy and confusing ways, so something needed doing... I requested to get Seashell reinstated after it disappeared recently, because there was a lot of info in it that was not in the other 2 articles, and also because I think it is a good place for complete amateurs to start reading about the subject. As for the seashell template, I don't really like it for a whole bunch of reasons, partly because it is superfluous (I think), and it reads very oddly to me (I'm a semi-professional malacologist.) I did contemplate getting rid of it, but I am hoping it can perhaps be made into something worthwhile, even though I am not sure what yet. You may be right that category would do the same thing. I am not sure yet if I can turn that template into something useful or not. Geronimo has said more than once that he doesn't mind if it ends up being deleted. Very best to you and nice to meet you, Invertzoo (talk) 23:46, 23 September 2008 (UTC)
Hello, it's me again, here is what I wrote to you on the template page earlier today: "Hi Catherine, I am a species of seashell expert. Like you I am somewhat uncomfortable with the use of this particular template, but for different reasons: I was not sure the template was useful as it was originally composed, and plus the content seems odd: rather arbitrary and amateur-seeming. For the time being I am trying to see if the template can be kept, added to, and made more useful, but ultimately, if I can't see that the template is really going to "earn its keep", then I will be in favor of deleting it and going for categories instead. The point of a template is to make navigating to relevant related articles much easier and faster to do; if this one can help considerably with that then it might be able to be an asset. If not then it is just taking up space. Invertzoo (talk) 14:43, 26 September 2008 (UTC)" I have talked to Geronimo a bit today, and from my own point of view, I personally am coming round more to the idea that this template can be made to be useful and functional. There are certainly a lot of other templates that follow a similar pattern and seem to function well and be useful. Perhaps this one can be too. By the way, right now it looks ugly because I added too much content to it, but Geronimo will work it up into something more functional. I don't know enough about templates to do it myself. If you look at various fisheries articles you will perhaps see how similar templates are working quite well (so it seems) on those pages. Best, Invertzoo (talk) 21:35, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Disputed non-free use rationale for Image:DuranDuran HungryLikeTheWolf Screenshot.jpg
Thank you for uploading Image:DuranDuran HungryLikeTheWolf Screenshot.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this image on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the image description page and add or clarify the reason why the image qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for images used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 12:41, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
First off, I apologize for the spam. You are receiving this message because you have indicated that you are in Southern California or interested in Southern California topics (either via category or WikiProject).
I would like to invite you to the Los Angeles edition of Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art, a photography scavenger hunt to be held at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) on Saturday, February 28, 2009, from 1:00 to 7:00 PM. All photos are intended for use in Wikipedia articles or on Wikimedia Commons. There will be a prize available for the person who gets the most photos on the list.
If you don't like art, why not come just to meet your fellow Wikipedians. Apparently, we haven't had a meetup in this area since June 2006!
If you are interested in attending, please add your name to Wikipedia:Wikipedia Loves Art#Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Please make a note if you are traveling to the area (train or plane) and need transportation, which can probably be arranged via carpool, but we need time to coordinate. Lodging is as of right now out of scope, but we could discuss that if enough people are interested.
Thank you and I hope to see you there! howcheng {chat} 23:39, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
User Causing Problems
Hey there again, I just wanted to let you know there's been a user vandalising pages I work on. The user is Majorgoals01, and one of the pages he's been vandalising is Takbir Bashir (if you check the edit he had before I changed it, you'll notice quite a difference....). He's apparently been warned once already. I just thought you'd maybe wanna keep an eye on him. Thanks a lot, appreciate it, Jay (talk) 19:35, 27 February 2009 (UTC)
www.wikipedia.org
Hi. I was asked to come work on the above page a few days ago — and have made some changes; not too radical (yet). I'm looking over the old talk and found you. I figured I should touch base with you; thoughts, involvement, up-to-you… So far, I'm mostly doing lower level tweaks; things like adding titles, Unicode encoding, omitting the local name of Main Page and relying on redirects. I did just propose a change to how the top-10 links work — a larger rectangle that surrounds the 'free encyclopedia' and article count, too. Discussion is at:
and you can preview the tweaks at:
live version is at:
of course ;) Some of my changes are already live.

GA Reassessment of Ishango bone
Hello, I have done a GA Reassessment of the Ishango bone article as part of the GA Sweeps project. You significantly contributed to this article and as such I am notifying you that I found a couple of problems with the article that need to be addressed if the article is to remain at GA level. My review is here. If you have any questions please feel free to contact me on my talk page. I will hold the article for a week pending work and then reassess. On a separate note, thank you for your work on Wikipedia, I quickly perused your user page and I owe you a debt of gratitude for the foundational work you did to bring the project to where it is today. NowCommons: File:Curcuma by titanium22.jpg
File:Curcuma by titanium22.jpg is now available on Wikimedia Commons as Commons:File:Curcuma by titanium22.jpg. This is a repository of free media that can be used on all Wikimedia wikis. The image will be deleted from Wikipedia, but this doesn't mean it can't be used anymore. You can embed an image uploaded to Commons like you would an image uploaded to Wikipedia, in this case: [[File:Curcuma by titanium22.jpg]]. Orphaned non-free image File:Large williams logo.png
Thanks for uploading File:Large williams logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of "file" pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. JaGatalk 04:23, 9 December 2009 (UTC)
Advice needed for planned edit of Missing Persons (band) page, and future edits
Catherine, I have been working on the Missing Persons (band) page as well as the Dale Bozzio and Warren Cuccurullo pages. I also have information that I can add to Terry Bozzio's and Patrick O'Hearn's pages. I have compiled references that I will be adding.
Currently, I am planning an edit that will expand upon and correct an inaccuracy in the current band page lead paragraphs. With the expansion, I am considering insertion of a Band formation section in which I will elaborate a little more upon how the band members came together-explain the Frank Zappa connection for four of the members and add some information about Chuck Wild. Does creating a separate section for that information appear reasonable and conform with format guidelines?
My edits will range across the band, the band members, and possibly into Frank Zappa. I have set my current goal at bringing these pages all up to the level of Warren Cuccurullo's page. Since you have some knowledge of the band and brought the Duran Duran page up to feature article status, could I possibly consult with you about proposed edits?
Oh, I have a musical background as a drummer/percussionist (although I no longer play professionally), along with an architectural background (my current work). I'm an INTJ. Doc2234 (talk) 02:12, 31 December 2009 (UTC)
Unreferenced BLPs
Hello CatherineMunro! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 3 of the articles that you created are tagged as Unreferenced Biographies of Living Persons. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring these articles up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 179 article backlog. Once the articles are adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the list:
- Jim Wallerstein - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
- Holly Knight - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL
- Dean Chamberlain - Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL

AfD nomination of Dean Chamberlain
An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Dean Chamberlain. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").
Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dean Chamberlain. Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).
You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.
Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:07, 3 February 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia's tagline
Hi. I noticed that you participated in a 2005/2006 discussion and straw poll on whether or not the tagline at the top of all Wikipedia articles should be changed from "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia" to "From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia that anyone can edit". I don't know if you're still interested in this issue or not, but this exact change has been proposed once again, this time at the Village pump, and there is currently an RFC (Request for Comment) on the subject where it is being discussed. Hi, would you be so kind as to give us support!
Hello, I hope you're doing fine and I sincerely apologize for this intrusion. I'm Claudi Balaguer, a member of a Catalan association "Amical de la Viquipèdia" which is trying to get some recognition as a Catalan Chapter but this hasn't been approved up to that moment. I know that you are also trying to obtain a Californian Chapter and I sincerely hope that you will succeed and I think that all the members of our association feel likewise because denying it implies, in my opinion, going against the spreading of knowledge creating boundaries to creativity and collective voluntary work. So maybe I am not bothering you and you will help us... We would appreciate your support, visible if you stick this on your first page: Wikimedia CAT. Supporting us will be like giving equal opportunity to minorized languages, cultures and local or regional entities in the future! By the way I really appreciated your writings about the Wikipedia, the metaphores are really good and the ideas conveyed like transforming stones into wells really impacted me, you've got a real poetic wisdom about what is/or should be Wikipedia! Thanks again, wishing you a great summer, take care! I wish I could visit your great, beautiful and sunny region once more soon! If you ever need my (probably "our" too) help you can count on me even though I'm currently really far away from California. Capsot (talk) 16:06, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
