{{editsemiprotected}} The portion of the article that discusses Simon's appearances in various media mentions that he appeared in Shrek 2 as one of the judges on "Far, Far Away Idol". It should have specified that this appearance is in the home DVD version of the film and not, of course, the theatre version.

 Done I've managed to find a reference, thanks for pointing that out --5 albert square (talk) 21:00, 13 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Earnings claim in 'Personal life' section

{{edit semi-protected}}

'Upon his appearance on Top Gear, it was revealed that Cowell pays more than £21.7m per year in income tax, suggesting that his taxable income is over £54.25m per year with income tax at the time approximately 40%.'

Is this earnings claim of ~ £50 m, derived from a figure given in a Times Online article by Jeremy Clarkson, truly reliable? If you read the relevant part of that article, the £21.7 m figure appears to be given as an off-hand (i.e. made up) remark by Jeremy Clarkson (not renowned for being a reliable narrator). It doesn't appear to be a statement of fact, backed up by any evidence - but just the author's opinion or estimate.

I think the above statement should be removed from the article.

 Not done: We are never going to get it from a more reliable source what his taxable income is - that would be down to Mr Cowell if he wanted to make that public, not them. I've read the article, I don't think that figure is made up. If you google it you will find hundreds more reliable sources are stating the same. Wikipedia goes on verifiability, we have more than one reliable source stating this figure so we go with this rather than what we think the figure may be --5 albert square (talk) 18:25, 2 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Lightning

Simon just changed his name legally by deed poll on The Xtra Factor to Lightning Cowell, saying he would change it back in 24 hours. Not really sure this should be mentioned though. Not even sure how legal it was. AnemoneProjectors 21:29, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Wrong Name for Mr Cowell

I believe by section 4 of the Deed Poll Serivce, he is now called "Lighting Cowell"

See what I just said above. AnemoneProjectors 21:36, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fully protected for 24 hours, since people don't seem to understand WP:RECENTISM or that this is a temporary change, this "might" be mentioned in the article, but does not warrant a major change to the lead. Showbusiness might be full of stupid peacockery, but we do not need to follow it like lemmings. Rodhullandemu 21:46, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Good move. AnemoneProjectors 21:48, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
(ec) What people "believe" is neither here nor there as far as WP is concerned. We need a citation from a reputable source, and that does NOT include Cowell making some flippant and totally inconsequential remark on The Xtra Factor, with a truth value of zero. As one who has himself recently changed his name legally, I can tell you doing so takes a considerable amount of thought and it's not something you reverse, particularly not "24 hours later". -- Jack of Oz ... speak! ... 21:51, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
