This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Rael electrique (talk | contribs) at 03:44, 19 January 2011 (Help restore sanity). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This IP address is User:SWAdair editing while logged out. Most of my edits these days are anonymous simply because I'll pull up Wikipedia and jump into editing without logging in. About the only time I bother to log in to my account is when I need to do something that the software will not allow an IP editor to do, such as fixing vandalism on a protected page. I do appreciate the offers I've had to create an account, but after enough of these kind offers I thought I'd add a box at the top of the page explaining that I've had an account for years. Thank you, and happy editing! 152.16.16.75 (talk) 10:20, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]
This user thinks it's none of their business if 68.39.174.238 76.117.247.55 gets an account.

Welcome

I won't simply add a standard template welcoming you; but I'll say that if 152.16.16.75 is a specific user at Duke University who is responsible for the edits recorded for that IP, they're useful edits, and I'd recommend that you create an account so that your edits and comments will be attributable to a particular person (who seems quite clueful and intelligent). Think about it. Deor (talk) 02:31, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you very much. Yes, I use IPs 152.16.16.75, 152.16.59.190 and 152.16.188.107. I recognize and claim all previous edits from those IPs. Although all three are technically shared computers, I am the only person to edit Wikipedia from those IPs. Its a shame, really, that my coworkers don't share my enthusiasm. Thank you very much for your kind words. In fact, I do have an account that I rarely log into any more - User:SWAdair. I voluntarily requested de-adminship when it became apparent that I would not be editing as frequently as I once did. I've since gotten into the habit of editing without logging in. 152.16.16.75 (talk) 23:57, 12 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Help restore sanity

You helped sort out a speedy deletion dispute for a related act to one band I am trying to write an article about at present, stating that the act qualified on WP:MUSIC 1 and 10. Currently the Unquiet Nights article I have written is being disputed and I have outlined clearly how the act meets 3 criteria in the least, as layed out by WP:MUSIC. Perhaps you would turn your attention towards that article and lend a reasonable approach to what's happening there. Thanks, and it is appreciated much about your input to the Lovechild (band) article in 2010.

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to make constructive contributions to Wikipedia, at least one of your recent edits, such as the one you made to History of the book, did not appear to be constructive and has been reverted. Please use the sandbox for any test edits you would like to make, and read the welcome page to learn more about contributing constructively to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Saddhiyama (talk) 09:14, 18 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If this is a shared IP address, and you didn't make the edit, consider creating an account for yourself so you can avoid further irrelevant notices.
The edit I had reverted was part of a mass-reversion of spam. User:Sxhpb Contribs had added a lot of links in articles, all linking to books from the University of Chicago Press. These are the only edits that account has made. It looks like advertising to me. 152.16.16.75 (talk) 01:13, 19 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the copyediting

Thanks, with your help, grammatical errors on the article of Gotjawal Forest are hugely reduced. Keep the good job!--Caspian blue 00:23, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You're welcome. I've done more on Jeju-do than Gotjawal Forest. My edits on Gotjawal Forest are mainly related to WP:MOS issues, but I'm happy to help where I can. Thank you for your kind notice. 152.16.16.75 (talk) 00:28, 8 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your note

Thanks for your note just now. -- CountryDoctor (talk) 00:47, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the version I was reverting to was accurate. I didn't mean to revert your edit, I was just attempting to continually revert to remove the vandalism. Nova Prime (talk) 09:37, 21 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I blanked the page because it must be removed, can you do that instead of revert my changes?

I don't care if you're logged in or not, if you're from Duke or not,

but your edits of my half-assed edits to the Bay Bridge failure, were both useful, and lacking the usual Wikipedia nazi editor behavior, genuinely fixing my edits, teaching me something new about how wiki references should be made, and not calling me out as some sort of obvious jerk-faced vandal.

So thank you!

/Duke may still suck, that's beyond my scope. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.222.203.146 (talk) 23:12, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

LOL! I try to help where I can. One great thing about Wikipedia is that you can learn at your own pace and, as you did, you can even learn from watching how someone else does something. Oh, and.... Duke ROCKS!  :) Hey, they sign my paycheck. I had to say that. 152.16.16.75 (talk) 23:27, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

You reverted my edits at a talk page? Well, I take it all back then.

I've never figured out why people revert edits at a talk page. Seems totally pointless and just a way to piss people off and take any of the fun and flavor out of the wiki.

In this case at talk welding, I was absolutely correct too. Shameful that a page on welding doesn't ever mention tack welding, what it is, why it is, etc. And it's typical wiki behavior to delete it because it's not as fun/obscure useful as say, cold fusion friction mediated liquid spooge welding.

And me be nice to wiki editors? See, wiki has this enormous huge bad reputation it's brought on itself and its well deserved, where wiki nazis wander around the SS of the Unternet deleting any entry they dislike and threatening the evil ban hammer on editors.

Which is all to say, what did you think of my Spanish Inquisition addition to the talk page at the Bay Bridge? (Please don't delete it, and enjoy your day, and your well deserved paycheck.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.222.203.146 (talk) 23:36, 31 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I saw the "Spanish Inquisition" edit earlier and had a good chuckle. I love Monty Python. If you create an account then you could write the Tack weld article. 152.16.16.75 (talk) 00:04, 1 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

About religion

Note: This is a response to my original post: Hello. I came across your edits while on RC Patrol. I just wanted to let you know that Baptist Church is a redirect to Baptist. You don't need to change "Baptist", as that is already pointing to the correct article. Happy editing! 152.16.16.75 (talk) 11:13, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Well, the if you state a religion of a person, the use of the noun is standard, my fellow. -- 119.94.198.86 (talk) 11:14, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

By the way: What is a "RC Patrol"? -- 119.94.198.86 (talk) 11:20, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
"RC Patrol" is Recent changes patrol. It means I'm checking Special:RecentChanges. I'm wondering why you're changing "Baptist" to "Baptist Church" but not changing other religions to include the word "church". I was raised Baptist. Every Baptist I know, when asked their religion, would reply "Baptist." They wouldn't reply "Baptist Church". Since Baptist is already the main article, there is no need to point wikilinks (that already point to the main article) to a redirect instead. 152.16.16.75 (talk) 11:23, 2 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

The Crocketts?

Why do you feel the need to keep changing the names of members of the band "The Crocketts"?Ready Joined Concrete (talk) 21:32, 3 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was undoing vandalism, and reverted to before either you or the anons had edited. I didn't trust your edits because of this edit, otherwise I would have reverted to one of yours. 152.16.16.75 (talk) 10:45, 7 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I just wanted to say nice job catching that bit of vandalism. That user seems to be causing a few problems. Btw, if you create an account you can get tools like Twinkle or WP:Rollback that make vandal reversion much quicker! Just something to consider. Regards, HJMitchell You rang? 11:33, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. I try to help when I have time. I really ought to put a notice at the top of my IP talk page, claiming my account. You're not the first to suggest I create an account.  :) I must admit, though, I've considered getting back into the habit of logging in to edit. Many, many times I'll click the necessary buttons only to find that someone using one of the quicker tools has beaten me to the vandalism reversion. Thank you for taking the time to drop me a note, and thank you for your own efforts in finding and fixing vandalism. Happy editing! 152.16.16.75 (talk) 11:43, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Please login

LOL. That's three so far. 1,2, and now this one. Thank you. I appreciate your taking the time to thank me. I already have an account (User:SWAdair) that I almost never use these days. I have gotten into the habit of editing without logging in. The only time I login is when I need to do something that the software will not allow an anon to do. Otherwise, I'm usually showing as an anonymous user. I do appreciate the offer, though. 152.16.16.75 (talk) 11:16, 16 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Happy Holidays

Thank you very much. The last thing I was expecting as an anon editor was to be remembered for the holidays. You just made my day. Merry Christmas! 152.16.16.75 (talk) 10:25, 19 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

D'oh!

I always thought some day I was going to receive a warning on my warnings... --Againme (talk) 11:19, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

LOL! Hey, your message worked, didn't it?  :) Still, the tiered system is easier and quicker to use, and even lets you include a link to the page that was vandalized. Its up to you whether or not you use the templates, but once you get used to them, they are soooo helpful. Happy editing! 152.16.16.75 (talk) 11:26, 28 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks

Re your post on my talk page (Sorry for not replying but for some reason I thought I had!)

Blocking you

This is in reference to my post on Materialscientist's talk page. 152.16.16.75 (talk) 11:26, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

You know what, I myself was blocked a couple of days ago for the same reason: a mistake in reverting edits. Sorry. First time this happened with me. Materialscientist (talk) 11:13, 13 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the linkspam reverts on those articles. I took a quick peek at the site, and it's too bad that an otherwise useful site seems to be for driving traffic to the author's page so he can sell books. I often add links to photo pages like this on the small town articles I write, especially if we don't have a Commons photo yet, though I try to use .gov and .edu sites. So I was thinking at some point I might restore some of those links on a case-by-case basis. Luckily on one of the pages, I noticed that he appears to be using photos from the Historic American Building Survey, so we can either link to the Library of Congress page or upload the photos as they're in the public domain. Anyway, I don't suppose as an IP you can have a watchlist, but don't be alarmed if the links reappear at some point--I despise spam as much as anyone and am not in cahoots with "Kerby Jackson"! Cheers, Katr67 (talk) 15:15, 15 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Good catch on the source of his images! I hadn't noticed that. All I saw was the commercial nature of the spam links. I think uploading the public domain images or linking directly to the Library of Congress page, rather than to a commercially-oriented site, is a great idea. I don't have a watchlist, but I do occasionally (days or weeks later) review my previous edits to see what has happened since I last edited the articles. Hopefully I'll see some edits from you on those articles when I next check them. Take care, and happy editing! 152.16.16.75 (talk) 10:22, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Talk Back: Cellulose

Hello, 152.16.16.75. You have new messages at Nyxaus's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Just a note

No need to restore warnings on a vandal's page. Just leave it, it will still be in the history and the admins are smart enough to check. -Regancy42 (talk) 11:45, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the note. I got into that habit because other well-meaning RC Patrollers, sometimes not thinking to check, leave a tier-1 warning on a vandal's talk page if the vandal blanks it when they would have left a tier-2 or 3 warning if they had seen the earlier messages. The admins always check the talk page history once a vandal is reported, but I've gotten into the habit of restoring previous warnings for currently active vandals so that other editors don't miss them. A tiny bit of extra work, but every once in a while it pays off. Thank you for taking the time to help, and happy editing! (Wow, look at the time... I've got to RUN! Take care) 152.16.16.75 (talk) 11:57, 27 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Welcome, and I recommend you create an account

Although some prefer welcoming newcomers with cookies, I find fruit to be a healthier alternative.

Hello, 152.16.16.75, and welcome to Wikipedia! Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like this place and decide to stay. Here are some tips to get you started:

  • Please respect your fellow Wikipedians, remain neutral, cite your sources, and if a rule prevents you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia, ignore it.
  • You are welcome to continue editing articles without logging in, but I highly recommend that you create an account for yourself. Doing so is free, requires no personal information, and provides several benefits such as the ability to create articles. Even more tools are added to your account if your account becomes auto-confirmed (four days old and with 10 or more edits), such as being able to edit semi-protected pages. For a full outline and explanation of the benefits that come with creating an account, please see this page. If you edit without an account, your IP address (152.16.16.75) is used to identify you instead.
  • Edit a page by clicking 'Edit this page' or 'Edit' on the top of the page.
  • Use the Wikipedia sandbox or create your own personal sandbox to experiment.
  • Sign your name on talk pages using four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username and the date.
  • Cite your sources using <ref></ref> tags. For example, type <ref>Example reference. http://www.example.com. Accessed January 1, 1900.</ref> to produce this tag:[1]
  1. ^ Example reference. http://www.example.com. Accessed January 1, 1900.
  • To create an article, use the article wizard.
  • Consider joining a WikiProject.
  • Use two apostrophes for italic text (''italic text''), three apostrophes for bold text ('''bold text'''), five apostrophes for bold and italic text ('''''Bold and italic text'''''), two brackets for an internal link ([[page name]]), two brackets and a pipe (|) for an internal link with different text to be displayed ([[page name|text to be displayed]]), the link, including the http:// prefix, for external links (http://www.example.com), one bracket and a space for an external link with different text to be displayed ([http://www.example.com Text to be displayed]), and two curly brackets for {{templates}}. See this page for more formatting marks.

WOW! Now that is a welcome template.  :) Thank you. I actually have an account that I've had for years. In fact, in this edit I am including a box at the top of the page explaining that. I do appreciate the kind offer, though. Thank you for welcoming me. Take care, and happy editing! 152.16.16.75 (talk) 10:20, 28 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Flemish Ardennes

I used to be the creator, author and webmaster of a website about the Flemish Ardennes and South-East-Flanders on Geocities. I started this website in 1998. Geocities became part of Yahoo!, and in 2009, Yahoo changed it policy towards Geocities. I did not agree with this policy, and as a result, I discontinued the website that same year. The website disappeared, but as author of the content, I still have the content.

I am willing to donate the content to Wikipedia, by adding the text to existing webpages within Wikipedia, or by creating new webpages within Wikipedia. As a first trial, I added my text on the history of the Flemish Ardennes to the webpage about this subject in Wikipedia. It was then deleted by you, since you correctly discovered that the content was coming from the former Geocities website about the Flemish Ardennes. However, since this website does not exist anymore, and since I am the author of its content, I wonder whether you would agree to undo the deletion of the content I added to the Wikipedia page on Flemish Ardennes.

Since I am a new contributor to Wikipedia, I am looking forward to your cooperation and guidance.

(This is 152.16.16.75 from a different IP) Ah, that does happen. You may want to start at WP:IOWN. Notice, however, that both options listed there require you to have some access to the original site -- either to place a GFDL notice on the original page or to send an e-mail from an associated e-mail address. Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials is another good page to read, and you may consider posting a comment on its talk page to get an administrator's input. A couple of quick notes: standard formatting here has new messages posted below the earlier messages (i.e. new posts should show up at the bottom of the page), and you can sign your posts by typing four tildes, like ~~~~. I've moved this post for you, but you should be aware of this if you post a question on the talk page I linked to above. 152.16.59.102 (talk) 06:27, 7 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Alpine Provençal

Thank you for your message. Sure, redirecting Alpine Provençal to Vivaro-Alpine makes a lot of sense. I would have done it myself if I knew what article the CSD tagger had in mind. I guess I should have read the article's Talk page. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 00:25, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]
