David Thompson Secondary School

You sir have been systematically and categorically discriminatory towards the David Thompson Secondary School article. Please explain why such particular attention to that one article? It conforms to the standards set by other secondary school articles. --24.85.138.182 (talk) 03:03, 25 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Non-free logos

Hello. Thank you for trying to save the logos from the television station pages. However, simply interspersing them through the rest of the article doesn't really justify their use. Non-free media must achieve something than simple words cannot. Can you find a reliable source discussing the change in branding, or something, which directly relates to a specific logo? The JPStalk to me 17:13, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Most logo changes happen when the networks have a rebranding and they can be found on the Canadian Communication Foundations. Other than that, I don't believe there are a lot of sources out there, besides Youtube videos.  єmarsee Speak up! 17:49, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
You have not added critical commentary. You've merely thrown the images in where there is a lot of text. The images are at the moment purely decorative. I'm not going to revert again today because of the 3RR. Without sources and genuine critical commentary you cannot use the logos. The JPStalk to me 18:04, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I believe I have added critical commentary. If you don't see what I've did as critical commentary then nothing I do will ever please you enough for the logos to stay on. As I mentioned before, sources for logo changes are usually from the CCF, but they are very vague.  єmarsee Speak up! 18:12, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The yellow 'A' logo shows promise, but the other two in that rather messy section are problematic. I don't see the critical commentary that justifies using these non-free media. Critical commentary isn't a currency -- a 'History' section doesn't buy you an image. You need to justify every image. The JPStalk to me 18:21, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I can add some more commentary to these logos, but it's going to take a lot of time. I have a question regarding wordmark logos. Are they still considered NFC when they only contain words and simple shapes? See this as an example. As far as I understand, they are in public domain. Correct me if I'm wrong. єmarsee Speak up! 18:29, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

CIVI

But on CTVglobemedia's website, they reffer to the station as 'A' Vancouver Island, so that's why I've changed it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 99.233.75.211 (talk) 18:39, 29 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Why??

Hey man long time no talk. With regards to the Lougheed, and the thing being split and not part of Highway 7, I have figured out a solution. Basically, what we could do is make an article for the "Lougheed Highway" and then have a section that says "Highway 7" and say "this part and this other part past Ottawa Street are provincial Highway 7, while the rest of the route was decomissioned in 200??" What do you think about that?? I now see that you are right about highway 7 being divided, but the lougheed is still a major arterial route, and deserves it's own article. I think BC Highway 7 should redirect to the subsection of the Lougheed Highway article entitled "Highway 7"

Thoughts comments??

With regard to User:Rettetast what a fool. WHy would you remove all the images of highway markers, in an article about Highways. His actions have no context, what makes it worse is it's an admin. TotallyTempo (talk) 01:28, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

If British Columbia Highway 1A is not a provincial highway, then why is it in the BC roads template under provincial highways out of curiosity? --Admrboltz (talk) 04:05, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

My mistake. Google once again seems to be out of date. Its been 6 years since I've been up that way, and almost every time I would cut over to Highway 99 via 8 Avenue. I have undid your change from Blaine to Seattle, as this is no where near Seattle. And thanks for clarifying the Metro Vancouver item as well. --Admrboltz (talk) 04:13, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry. I don't use Google Maps as a reliable source of maps. I rely on a Canadian map company called MapArt for all my map-related sources. єmarsee Speak up! 04:18, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
(both times I've tried to comment I EC :p) Before I get into a 3RR situation - the "city" column is not the destination of the route, it is the city the interchange happens in, which is Blaine. The destination is listed in the {{jct}} template, not the city column. Blaine can be removed from the Jct template however. --Admrboltz (talk) 04:19, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Oh *@&(... I didn't see I put that into the city column. My mistake, I apologize if I caused any troubles. I meant to put Seattle into the jct template. єmarsee Speak up! 04:21, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Don't worry about it. I still need to clean up the article and cite the BC portion of it, but I figured instead of trying to expand WA 543 anymore, I could tackle a combined article. --Admrboltz (talk) 04:47, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hey

Hey, check out what I got on my talk page: "The WP:NFCC is a Wikipedia policy, and must be followed. I have reverted your edits on British Columbia Highway 7 as you are still failing criterion 8 and do not have fair use rationale listed for these images. If you want to dispute the copyrighted status of these route markers, then talk to WP:MCQ. Thank you.

Isn't that special. Other highway articles use signs for marking highways, I fail to see how BC is any differentI'ma deal with this tomorrow probably around 6 pm EST or so, after I return from work. TotallyTempo (talk) 04:10, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

On this point, since I left this message - the US route shields and state route shields are all public domain as US government work. The BC traffic signs from what I understand are still copyrighted items, and per their copyright notice template were refused to be published as a free item. --Admrboltz (talk) 04:13, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have asked uninvolved people their opinion on this matter at Wikipedia:Media_copyright_questions#British_Columbia_route_images. Thank you --Admrboltz (talk) 04:29, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File Copyright problem
File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Chch1986.png. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 16:49, 3 September 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 16:49, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Logos needing "sourced commentary"

To be honest, I don't know what they mean when they say "sourced commentary". I have really given up on trying to figure that one out. Me and another user (an admin) have locked horns on this image removal and this "sourced commentary" thing. Please ask your favorite admin what they think it means, they will probably have a better idea than I would. Sorry I couldn't help more :S. Take Care...NeutralHomerTalk21:09, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

J Milburn did not remove File:CHCH1990s.png from the CHCH-TV article, The GateKeeper07 removed it in this edit. Powergate92Talk 23:32, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also File:Ontvlogo.png is not in typeface so it is not public domain see WP:Public domain#Fonts for info about that. Powergate92Talk 23:44, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If the logo is public domain, let J Milburn know that so he can readd it. - NeutralHomerTalk23:48, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

(Edit) No, it's a duplication. No point in having this image when there's such a similar one in the lead. Revert it if you want, but I don't see the point. Black Kite 23:55, 3 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Marking text logos as PD

Thankyou. Much as you probably see me as some evil logo-removing bastard, as long as the images are tagged properly I haven't got a problem. There's probably a lot more images on TV station articles that fit the text-only bill as well. Black Kite 01:01, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Stop removing my mentions that the logo and promo style was changed. If you *watch* YTV, you'll notice that the logo is quite changed, with the YTV letters completely white, and the background little bit modified. Also the promo font and style is changed. You don't have to *remove* stuff. tablo (talk) 22:49, 10 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Logo really changed. Although the website's logo hasn't changed, the logo on TV clearly changed. I will soon come up with a screenshot if so. tablo (talk) 00:41, 13 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I noticed you uploaded the logo for CBC Television that is currently in the CBC TV articles. They have recently changed their logo (the new one just has the letters CBC underneath the CBC corporate logo, the television part is gone), any possibility you could update the file to the new logo?! I noticed it is an SVG file, I don't know how to create those so if I upload the new logo it will be in PNG format. Let me know, thanks! The GateKeeper07 (talk) 03:35, 18 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thmc1 re Chinatown, Vancouver - now at 4RR

As of his latest reversion he's now at $RR reverting the same content, as he'd done the same to two previous attempts of mine to "stay the course". See User_talk:Piano_non_troppo#4RR and the preceding section, ando note warnings on User:Thmc1 re other Chinatown type pages and a similar pattern of edits/conduct. Actual definitions and stats would help (to cite although elsewhere he's deleted Britannica references because they didn't suit his taste/line....)Skookum1 (talk) 20:51, 19 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Chinatown, Vancouver size

Hi Emarsee, I'm glad I now have the chance to express my intentions and actions to you.

Let me first say that I am a novice at Wikipedia editing and this, in fact, is the first time I am even finding my way around to get to a Talk page. I actually requested Editorial assistance, and editor(?) "Jayron" (or is it "Jayron32"?) advised me to air my same concern on the Talk page of the "Chinatown, Vancouver" article. I proceeded to try that, but I then stumbled upon your message, which I'm glad I did, because I sincerely did not understand why my completely legitimate edit kept being reverted, or by whom, especially when I took great care every single time to actually express my rationale carefully in the Edit Summary.

Let me next convey that I am a very nice person who has absolutely no intention of engaging in an "edit war." I also only subsequently learned about this "3-revert" rule.

Let me additionally address statements made by "Skookum1" and "Piano_non_troppo". First of all "Skookum1" may possibly be begrudging at me because I was actually able to prove to him numerically that he was incorrect regarding his insistence that the SF Bay Area has a larger ethnic Chinese population than the NYC metropolitan area -in fact, NY's is larger, with over 600,000 (as compared to over 500,000 for the Greater SF Bay Area) by Census American Community Survey 2007 estimates. Regarding "Piano_non_Troppo" (editor?)'s comment, I didn't realize that a Britannica reference was held sacred even with regards to modifiying its comment as a former fact, until I saw his warning about that issue to replace the Britannica reference with an equally authoritative reference. For the record, I have NOT seen any warning fom him about a "3RR," not to say that he didn't send one - I just haven't seen one, as your message to me has been the first that I have seen in that vein. Finally, I am surprised that he would state that I have been short on statistics, because I seem to be the one quoting them more often than most others! I also firmly believe in statistical integrity myself.

All that under the bridge, let me address the actual content of my complaint, as I did to the Editorial Assistance site:

Regarding the first line in the "Chinatown, Vancouver" article: I propose that this line needs to be re-stated as, "Chinatown in Vancouver, British Columbia, is the largest Chinatown in Canada and one of the largest in North America." The allusions to the San Francisco and New York Chinatowns are absolutely inappropriate there and should be removed from that context. Such a statement as I propose contains integrity and would avoid and replace an irrelevant, numerically unsubstantiated, unreferenced, and almost certainly inaccurate phrase, including the relatively extreme superlatives. The appropriate idea to be conveyed is that Vancouver's Chinatown is indeed the largest in Canada and one of the largest in North America, rather than an imprecise comparison with other specific Chinatowns and even more significantly, a comparison BETWEEN two OTHER Chinatowns, certainly an inappropriate statement to be present in the first line of "Chinatown, Vancouver." Clearly, therefore, references to San Francisco's Chinatown as well as New York's "Chinatown" (by the way, which one in NYC? - there are multiple in the city proper alone) should be eliminated entirely from this context.

Furthermore, the phrase in question itself is clearly inaccurate, given that the Manhattan Chinatown of 2009 enumerates about 80,000 to 90,000 Chinese residents and is apparently experiencing a very recent resurgence of immigration from Fujian and Zhejiang Provinces in Mainland China, while San Francisco Chinatown's proper could have AT MOST (and unlikely) 60,000 such residents, if recent Census place/zip code estimates are an accurate indication. Additionally, it is important to note that Chinatown boundaries have further blurred in recent years as they have expanded, and there are no official Census counts for such "Chinatowns."

I have no vested interest in any of these issues, but I strongly feel that facts need to be updated when they change with time. Otherwise, editorial credibility is sacrificed.

Restating the line as I propose endows neutrality and integrity to the content of the article and strengthens it to encyclopedic quality. The line in its present form is absolutely invalid and unacceptable.

Thank you, Emarsee, and I hope to hear back from you. I'm just not completely sure at which site I would receive your message.

Respectfully yours,

Thmc1Thmc1 (talk) 02:37, 20 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Your moves

Your recent moves of articles such as Main Street–Science World Station, in which you removed the spaces from the dashes were incorrect per WP:DASH, which says "All disjunctive en dashes are unspaced, except when there is a space within either one or both of the items" (italics mine for emphasis). I have reverted them; please try to use an edit summary in the future. Dabomb87 (talk) 01:29, 24 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Take "Main Street" and "Science World Station" for example: because they have internal spaces, the dash between them is spaced. Many websites and organizations do not follow standard dash rules; that does not mean we shouldn't. Feel free to ask more. Dabomb87 (talk) 01:37, 25 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I was taking it from the OnTV website, from what I've seen, I've only seen them use the black background version and from watching the station awhile back, the black background version seems to be mroe familiar to me and I can't remeber seeing the svg file version you uploaded. But if the svg file is more accurate then I'm fine with it. musimax. (talk) 17:35, 27 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Because of the problems we been having with old logos do to WP:NFCC, I have decided to start Television channels Wiki on Wikia. On Television channels Wiki you only need to have {{Fairuse}} on a logo to add it to an article. Powergate92Talk 02:54, 29 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Evergreen Line map

Just noticed a spelling error on your SVG map of the Evergreen Line; Burquitlam station is incorrectly spelled as Burtquitlam. Also, if you get a chance, I might suggest separation between the Evergreen and WCE lines so that it's clear they're not sharing track, and having Evergreen cross over WCE just west of Ioco station. I'd take a crack at making the changes myself, but I don't have a Commons account set up, and you're probably more familiar with the file than I am. Cheers! Klparrot (talk) 21:01, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I got most of that done after an IP commented on my Commons userpage. I'll separate the WCE tracks from the Evergreen line's soon.  єmarsee Speak up! 22:17, 20 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Frontiers to Freeways pdf page

This pdf page from the BCMOT site might be of interest to you. It's a resource containing much info about various BC Highways including the 1 (and contains dates for events such as when the HOV lanes were built). I don't think there's anything in here about Route 7 though. I'm currently adding many of the resources available here to existing BC Highway articles in Wikipedia.

native choir thing on 2010 WO

I was gonna cite that when I got back in from being out; there's two articles on it in [1]'s The Hook news area; I think if you look on Talk:Conne River, Newfoundland and Labrador you'll find them; it's also gotten other press coverage...and belongs in the "controversies and concerns" section, as also the Powder Mountain story which also belongs in terms of controversies surrounding the Games and/or its site(s). Of course there's no room on any computer for List of promises broken by politicians. That it's a controversy to do with hte Games is why it belongs; it may not have been in the right section, but it's factual and related to the events/politics of the Games.Skookum1 (talk) 01:52, 29 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

URLs

Emarsee, where is the consensus of which you speak? (See [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7]). Please show me where to find a discussion as to where this consensus was reached. As I've explained to you before, displaying the URL provides additional information in the same amount of space: piping the channel name over it is hiding that. I don't understand why you think it is beneficial to hide useful information in this way. --RFBailey (talk) 18:22, 4 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

First, User:Bearcat was not the user who mass-reverted my edits without notification: you were. That is why I started this discussion.
Second, while I appreciate what WP:MOS is saying, it's referring to how to use external links in article text, rather than infoboxes, I still don't understand why you think that our preferred version is better. WP:IAR states "If a rule prevents you from improving or maintaining Wikipedia, ignore it."; nowhere does it say "unless that rule is part of WP:MOS" or whatever. I suggest you read Wikipedia:What "Ignore all rules" means; one especially relevent quote is "Don't follow written instructions mindlessly, but rather, consider how the encyclopedia is improved or damaged by each edit.".
Third, you still haven't stated where this supposed "consensus" was obtained. Your interpretation of the applicability of WP:IAR is not a consensus.
Finally, I know what "WTF" means: please don't use it in edit summaries. It's incivil and unproductive. --RFBailey (talk) 03:25, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
There's a clear difference between ignoring behavioural guidelines such as 3RR and NPA and ignoring style guidelines when it will improve an article. After all, there is an encyclopaedia here which is supposed to be being written. If you can't be bothered to at least try to understand why I was actually trying to make improvements to the articles, then I don't see why you feel that you can going around reverting good faith edits. --RFBailey (talk) 16:43, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Also, if you look at the Template:Infobox_TV_channel#Example usage of that infobox, you'll see that it has the URL visible. I still want to know where this "consensus" exists--I'm coming to the conclusion that it does not exist. --RFBailey (talk) 19:48, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Further on this topic, I have started this a discussion at Wikipedia_talk:Manual_of_Style_(infoboxes)#URLs_in_infoboxes. --RFBailey (talk) 23:31, 5 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
If you're pissed off with YouTube comments (or, for that matter, anything else), you should probably steer clear of Wikipedia discussions until you have a clear head. Otherwise you just get other people pissed off with you and cause situations to escalate.
Anyway, I agree that the http:// protocol should be omitted, although the "www" should be included, as (occasionally) they are not part of the URL. --RFBailey (talk) 03:16, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In cases such as the CTV Northern Ontario example you mention, putting the complete URL is clearly ridiculous. An alternative would be to link to www.ctv.ca/local. However, where there is an easily-remembered URL, such as montreal.ctv.ca (which, incidentally, doesn't include a "www"), it is better to display it. As a general principle, I think that showing the URL is more helpful. --RFBailey (talk) 03:46, 9 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

PLEASE READ!!! Thmc1 IS VANDALISING ONCE AGAIN!!!!

I would like to report that user Thmc1 is vandalising the Chinatown pages once again with his Pro-New York/Anti-San Francisco Chinatown propaganda. This time he's falsely citing website sources. In an edit on the "Vancouver, Chinatown" page, he claims that a San Francisco promotional website (www.hoteltravelcheck.com/sfo/Chinatown-San-Francisco.html) advertises its Chinatown as "second largest", presumably behind New York. This is clearly untrue, as the website reads "THE LARGEST", not "second largest". I wonder what the logic is behind his latest actions? Maybe calling other people's bluff assuming that nobody won't bother to check?? What do you intend to do about his continuing abuses after already several warnings? IanEddington (talk)

Hi Emarsee,

I edited the article about the now defunct Ukrainian TV One channel. You posted a comment that it is not possible to replace a Channel without applying for a new license. I do agree that it is true for almost all English/French and some Ethnic Category 2 Specialty Services.

It is different, however, for the majority of non English/French channels (also Category 2 Specialty Services). These licenses require to carry out Ethnic programming plus CDN content. They do not specify how you bring the ethnic content into Canada. You can entirely produce it yourself or buy the majority from different foreign companies and compile it (hence, the requirement to have at least 10% locally produced programming). In general, the licensees simply choose to buy a signal from a satellite channel they desire to and insert local programming in the channel schedule.

Here are the conditions concerning the Ukrainian TV One channel: http://www.crtc.gc.ca/eng/archive/2003/db2003-448.htm

Since I subscribe ethnic channels, mostly Russian plus I used to subscribe the Ukrainian channel, I know for a fact that these channels are not being re branded by the licenses. They switch the signal from one satellite signal to another. This is also true for "Russian TV Two" channel which initially was "Moscow Open World", later "Center TV International", and now RTVi+. These three Russian channels are not related to each others. Operators switch channels for different reasons, mostly to increase subscription.

Pleas note that some Ethnic channels carriers formed a partnership with specific foreign channels prior to applying for a license and subsequently were granted one. In this case, it is not possible to switch channels and a new license would be required. For example, NTV Canada (Russia) may not be replaced by any other channel from Russia.

I would greatly appreciate if you reply to me.

Rord. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rord (talkcontribs) 04:27, 15 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry

I'm not trying to be disruptive. I'm not clear on the procesure. Your notes initially made no sense to me as I wasn't adding anything of consequence, and certainly no different than stating that a book was published. I fixed some pre-existing poor grammar, which seems to have been accepted, and then I added a note about the opening of a restaurant. That's about it. You obviously have no clue how this site (or debate in general) works. It is up to the person making the positive statement (YOU) to prove it. A tag has been placed on File:CFCF 12watch.gif requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is an unused redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines.  єmarsee Speak up! 06:47, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This was me prior to being banned for life! http://www.digitalhome.ca/forum/search.php?searchid=4231160

For a couple of years I was a member in good standing. One day Hugh posted (for the third time) that in the US local stations don’t receive fee for carriage from the US BDUs. This was after I posted the FCC regulation. http://www.fcc.gov/mb/facts/cblbdcst.html I stated that Hugh is in risk of harming his digital home site’s reputation if he keeps misleading people with false information. Without ever receiving an infraction Hugh banned me for life. I know of at least 4 other members that got banned for arguing in favour of Canadian broadcasters. I know for a fact that at least 3 moderators are BDU investors. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.49.235.49 (talk) 06:05, 20 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:CTV News.svg

Thanks for uploading File:CTV News.svg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 01:07, 4 January 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. FASTILYsock(TALK) 01:07, 4 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Last DJ

I got curious about this unreferenced claim from the KRKO article and a careful review of the video in question clearly shows the letters on the tower at approximately the 2:20 mark... and they're KRKD, not KRKO. Several stations have held these calls over the years but based on the vintage look of the film, it's possible that this was a tower for a 1970s Los Angeles radio station now known as KTLK and not the Arkansas station that now holds the call sign. - Dravecky (talk) 10:56, 6 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Better source request for File:Breakfasttv.png

Thanks for uploading File:Breakfasttv.png. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Kafe.png

Thank you for uploading File:Kafe.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:49, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

File source problem with File:ATNtv.svg

Thanks for uploading File:ATNtv.svg.

If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:54, 14 February 2010 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. Replaceable fair use File:Pitt river aerial3crop.JPG

Thanks for uploading File:Pitt river aerial3crop.JPG. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:59, 14 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Ckvu05news.jpg

I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Logos

It would be helpful if you could review and flag your own contributions as well as responding to the tags :)

It would also be very helpful, if when adding the information to images that could be on commons if you could consider adding the {{mtc}} as well.

BTW One final point, once resolved, any image warnings I've left on your talk page can be removed.

Hi Emarsee,

I work at the Vancouver Convention Centre and I've been tasked to update our Wikipedia page, as the information is not updated (eg. awards, sustainability plans, website link. etc.). I edited it yesterday, but it seems it has reverted back to the page with old information. I understand that information coming from us might be biased, but I assure you all we want to provide is facts. If you would like us to send our updated factsheet for you to refer to, please let me know.

If you could so kindly get back to me regarding this, it would be most appreciated.

Hi. When I converted the licensing of File:Globalwinnipeg.svg (I also intended to do the same for File:CKNDCurrentLogo.png but somehow missed it) from PD-textlogo to fair use, I based my decision on this quote. By my interpretation the shapes in these logos are simple indeed, but not primitive enough for the copyright law. Do you disagree? —Quibik (talk) 12:31, 24 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Haida chieftain

I think this message I left on User talk:Ravenfeathers sums my thoughts up pretty well. I was willing to give him slack to see if he wants to rejoin the fold, but if he's making personal attacks, then he doesn't—and it's time to treat his indefinite block like the de facto ban it is. I'm all for reverting on sight any time he uses a sockpuppet to edit Talk:Canwest (or anywhere else on Wikipedia), and if he's going to abuse his talk page by posting personal attacks, I'm all for revoking his right to edit his user talk page.

I'm on the fence about whether to push for a formal community ban of him. I think, if he comes back with another sockpuppet account, there won't be much other option. —C.Fred (talk) 03:39, 9 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Supports protecting environment

I suppose if I made mention on the 2010 Olympic wiki site that these olympics decimated the Eagle Ridge Bluff nature area, as well as removing over 100,000 trees, even though VANOC suggested they would green these olympics by having trees planted to cover carbon debt - You would remove it!?! Should you still be displaying the Environment supporter logo in that case. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Magickallwiz (talkcontribs) 06:42, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

VANOC wasn't responsible for Eagleridge Bluffs and the construction of the Sea to Sky through there, it was the BC MOT and the BC Liberals. Again, not VANOC. Also you need to learn how to properly cite sources, something that you have failed to do.  єmarsee Speak up! 06:51, 24 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Granville Island

Hello,

After working with the Granville Island community for more than a year, I decided to make my first contribution to Wikipedia. This community was created as an urban park for the people of Vancouver, NOT as a tourist attraction. According to the Phil Boname, the major consultant for the project, and to Norm Hodson, the architect of the island, the sectors outlined in my edit were (and are today) the main sectors that Granville Island was created to support. (The article is also missing the Creekhouse pioneers, but I didn't want to re-work someone else's section.)

The Granville Island community asked me to put together this book in order to clear up misconceptions like "tourist attraction" that are hurting their community. I added some of the information to the wikipedia article and referenced the sources with page numbers. (The book has more than 100 interviews and every page was signed off by the interviewee prior to print.) I was a little hesitant to provide the web link, because we've made it a page that gives information to tourists and promotes the book. Right now, I can only assume that this section was deleted because of my association with the book. I stand by the content because after talking to over 100 of the founding members of Granville Island, I can't imagine that many people know this content more than I do.

You may undo your action if you choose. I will not continue wasting my time writing and referencing work on Wikipedia since it gets deleted within hours without explanation.

T&T Supermarket page edits removed again

Why do you keep removing the info I've added to the T&T Supermarket record? We have a reliable source for the ongoing battle with them over sanitation and food handling problems: CBC News, the national news in Canada, which you can watch right on our site: http://www.tandtsmells.com.

You have information about another lawsuit T&T was involved with, so, why do you keep removing this information? It is legitimate, accurate and current.

RE: Windermere Secondary School page and the edit that I made as follows...

Traditionally at the end of the school year, the slogan "The Pink Fart Stikes Again!" can be seen painted on the south retaining wall of the school grounds. Urban legend has it that the first message should have read "Strikes" and has since been written as "Stikes".

You sent a message stating that the information that I added was not relevant, however, it is very relevant to any former students of the school. Also, the information is true and factual. I am not a savy user of Wikipedia. I am asking that you include the above information in the post about our school as it appears you are the person that removed it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.79.155.227 (talk) 18:06, 18 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on File:Global Reality Channel.svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F9 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image appears to be a blatant copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted images or text borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag - if no such tag exists then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hangon tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. License tagging for File:JoeTV.png

Thanks for uploading File:JoeTV.png. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

hello Emarsee

Regarding the Tsawwassen wikipedia page: I have been reading up on editting wikipedia, and although I disagree that my external link was "advertising", because I am trying to create a non-profit community message board, I see from the external links guidelines that I shouldn't have added the link because of a conflict of interest (I maintain the forum so I shouldn't add a link to it). Thanks, Danieln14 (talk) 20:16, 6 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Emarsee. I wanted to get your thoughts on uploading a new version of the Yoopa logo. The logo is found here. It seems to be the correct logo to use. I see that one more often than not, especially when referring to the TV channel. It seems like the one in the English article is for the Yoopa brand in general or the logo for the magazine, while the second one is for the TV channel. I thought I'd get your opinion since you uploaded the original logo and since you're able to upload svg files, you could upload it since I can't. The link to the new logo has a svg file, so I'm assuming it would be easy enough to just take that one and upload it.musimax. (talk) 01:21, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

If that's the correct logo, then it would only make sense to change the file to the correct version.  Done  єmarsee Speak up! 01:37, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

There was an agreement with Funimation, and they may have aired for a brief period (a few weeks possibly), but there was a problem with the finalization of the contract and as a result the partnership was never realized. Infoman66 (talk) 05:27, 22 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do not understand your edit

Hi there, Just wondering why you edited out my addition of Mr. Brad Dingler as the creator of the new SRTSS website. Actually, what I don't understand is why that information isn't relevant. Thanks! Jeff
