Guy Kawasaki (Born August 30, 1954) is a Silicon Valley venture capitalist, author and Apple Fellow. He was one of the Apple employees originally responsible for marketing the Macintosh in 1984. He is currently a Managing Director of Garage Technology Ventures, and has been involved in the rumor reporting site Truemors and the RSS aggregator Alltop. He is also a well-known blogger, who trades on his association with Apple.

Early life and education

Guy Kawasaki is Japanese American and a native of Honolulu, Hawaii, where he attended the Iolani School. He has a B.A. in psychology from Stanford University and an MBA from University of California, Los Angeles. He has three sons and one daughter.

Career

Apple

Guy Kawasaki was one of the Apple employees originally responsible for marketing the Macintosh in 1984, and is referred to as one of the prime Apple evangelists.[1]

Kawasaki is a former Apple Fellow.

Recent activities

After leaving Apple, in 1987, Kawasaki became founder/CEO of ACIUS, which produced the 4th Dimension database program. ACIUS survived for about two years. He also started the company Fog City Software, another company that didn't make it past its second birthday.

He is currently a Managing Director of Garage Technology Ventures, a venture capital firm which specializes in high-technology start-up firms located in Silicon Valley, California, as well as co-founder of Nononina, the company that created the Truemors and Alltop websites. He is also an advisor for Jajah, on invitation from co-founder Roman Scharf, and Visible Measures, working with Founder and CEO Brian Shin.

As of September 2009, his blog "How to Change the World" is currently ranked in the top 2,000 most-popular globally.[2]

Although he's been described as a business legend,[3] Kawasaki says that being a legend shouldn't be your goal in life, "What you should do is create a great product or service…the goal is to change the world...if you do that, maybe you’ll be a legend." [4]
