The Indian Institute of Management Raipur,(Hindi: भारतीय प्रबंध संस्थान, रायपुर, IIM Raipur) is a Business School setup in 2010 by the Government of India in the state of Chhattisgarh. Prof B. S. Sahay has been appointed as the director of IIM Raipur.[1] [2][3]
Location
Raipur is the capital of the Indian state of Chhattisgarh. The classes of IIM Raipur are temporarily being conducted at the Government Engineering College(GEC), Sejbahar in a dedicated spacious building. The Government of Chhattisgarh has identified 200 acres of land for the proposed IIM Raipur campus in Naya Raipur. The proposed campus will be a state-of-the-art campus presenting a blissful mix of modern architecture, culture & heritage of Chhattisgarh.[4]
Academics
IIM Raipur offers a two year Post Graduate Programme (PGP) in Management which is unique to IIMs. The curriculum comprises a mix of compulsory courses and electives.
Post Graduate Programme in Management
The PGP extends over a period of two years, involving six trimesters with a summer internship at an organization. The programme is carefully designed keeping in view the changing needs of the global business scenario. During the first year, students are exposed to basic concepts in the areas of Marketing, Finance, Quantitative Methods, Operations, Behavioural Sciences and Strategy through the core courses. These lay the foundations for all the functional areas of management and help the students develop an intricate understanding about the different facets involved. In the second year, students choose from a range of electives to specialize in functional areas of their interest. They are given the choice of doing a major and minor specialization or a dual specialization. The areas offered at present are Finance, Operations, Marketing, Human Resources, Strategy and General Management.[5]
Pedagogy
The pedagogy at IIM Raipur presents a mix of lectures, case studies, business games, simulation exercises, role plays, group discussions, field visits, industry based projects and a lot of self realized conceptual reflection. It has been designed keeping in mind the effect each of these methods have on molding the minds of young and self motivated students. The case studies help the students to keep in touch with the best predicaments faced in the world of management. Learning also comes from the brainstorming sessions amongst the students themselves regarding various issues.[6]
Admission
Admission to the PGP course of IIM Raipur is very competitive and is through the Common Admission Test conducted in November each year.[7]
Executive Education Programme
Executive Education program of IIM Raipur aims at broadening the horizon of participants and strengthening their skills to prepare them to face the challenges of the global business. IIM Raipur offers programs at the senior and middle management level participants also gain new insights from fellow participants from other organizations. IIM Raipur offers management development programmes and in company programmes.[8]
Fellow Programme
IIM Raipur plans to start Fellow Program in Management from 2012 in the areas of Economics and Strategy, Finance and accounting, HR & OB, IT Systems, Marketing Management, Operations Management.[9]
Infrastructure
Presently the institute runs from the Government Engineering College campus in Sejbahar. The library at IIM Raipur subscribes to a number of periodicals, news papers and journals. IIM Raipur has subscribed to many online resources such as ABI/ Inform Complete, Capitaline, EBSCO Business Source Complete, etc. The institute is a member of Developing Library Network (DELNET) and Indian National Digital Library in Engineering Sciences & Technology (INDEST).[10] The Institute has a 16 Mbps dedicated internet connection. The building is fully wifi enabled.[11]
Campus Life
Students plan and conduct many events and activities in addition to the curriculum. The various clubs and committees formed in the institute are responsible for the planning and conducting of events covering varied interests such as Finance, Operations, Marketing etc.
Finatix
The club aims to keep abreast with the current developments in the field of Finance and focuses on research in areas such as financial markets, instruments, regulations, etc. The club operates under the guidance of esteemed faculty on key aspects of Finance and latest trends. The club aims at providing outside the classroom learning opportunities in the field of finance, to arrange speaker sessions and workshops which encourage continuous learning and provide a platform to learn the elements which the industry looks out for. It seeks to connect with the industry in all possible ways to bridge the gap between industry and classroom. The club's activities include conducting quizzes, guest lectures, releasing newsletters and organizing guest lectures.[12][13]
OPEP
OPEP stands for Operations, Production, Enterprises and Project Management. This club endeavors to facilitate sharing of knowledge on management science, operations management, operations research, industrial engineering, quantitative methods and statistics and subtleties involved in specific case and study area amongst the students. It activities include releasing a bi weekly newsletter, organizing team building exercises among students, industrial visits and guest lectures.[14][15]
Mantra
The Marketing Club plays the role of igniting the marketing instincts of the students and aims to emerge as the centre for creative thinking and innovation in marketing, which will ultimately facilitate the students to rise to the challenges of the global markets. The vision is to achieve the objective through on campus club events and activities. These include quizzes, knowledge sharing sessions, case contests etc. The club also invites eminent personalities from industry and academia to deliver guest lectures where topics range from marketing basics to innovative practices and emerging trends in the industry.[16]
Equinox
Equinox is the National Level Cultural cum Biz fest of IIM Raipur. The inaugural edition of Equinox was held on March 5 and 6 2011.[17]
Social Activities
IIM Raipur plans courses and research centres to study Chhattisgarh’s natural resources and energy management, hoping to contribute to its home state’s development. [18]
Industry Interface
The students of IIM Raipur are exposed to guest lectures from various eminent personalities of the corporate world. RBI Governor Dr Duvvuri Subbarao, Adviser of Department of Science and Technology (India) Shri HK Mittal, Union Bank of India CEO Shri Mavila Vishwanathan Nair are among the prominent speakers. [19]
