Hello

Hello Zak, this is Afghan Historian (real name Khalid Afridi) from the Pashtun talk page. Just wanted to say hi to a fellow Pakistani Pashtun on here. You sound like an interesting person from your profile. I too love The Lord of the Rings, and was pretty fond of hiking during my days in the Scout movement. Say, I wanted to ask you something, I've been often curious about the Khattak dance of the Pasthuns, which is supposed to be of Greek origin but many are not sure. Do you think it is? What's it usually done for? I would love your help. Thanks! Afghan Historian 07:21, 6 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Heh heh, I love Yoda, not jar jar binks. But no matter, I find the Ewoks extremely annoying, although perhaps, now that I think about it, Jar Jar is worse. Nevertheless I'm not into cute cuddly things. I'm also not into the new Star Wars trilogy that much. It was badly written and could have been much much better as one whole movie minus the excessive excrement. Anyway, got class, so tally ho mate! Tamam Shud Afghan Historian 13:41, 10 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, I did like Revenge of the Sith a lot more than either Phantom or Attack of the Clones. But yeah, those kids who saw the new ones, might like them. I was a kid too when they came out in the late 90's. But, I was raised to be old-fashioned and more like the baby boom generation in terms of movies and music than my peers. I'm also ridiculed (gently :) ) by many fellow pakistani and indian pals for not liking bollywood. I dont think too much of modern Bollywood films, they're tacky and copy the west too much. Aishwarya Rai isnt that hot and I bet my annoying little sister could attract more guys than her! The old ones are kind of cool though, especially those with Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar (both from Peshawar! Not that that's the reason why I like them). I did see Serenity last year and I liked it a lot, to tell you the truth. Its like a Space western, if you want a specific genre. If one wants a good understanding of it, I always reccommend that they see the Firefly tv show on which it was based. I presume you've seen it? Afghan Historian 20:49, 11 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

That's good. I also like some sci fi. It depends. Derivative sci fi is not my cup of tea. Say, sorry for asking you so many questions. I just wanted to get to you know you, as you sound like a very well-read person when it comes to Afghans. But just one more, and I'll leave you alone. Me and an Indian friend of mine were debating over the Partition of India and I was of the opinion that it was carried out badly but theoretically justified, while he thought it was all out wrong. What's your view on this controversial subject? I think that while both countries are historically the same, the inevitable growth of the Muslim population would have started to outnumber the Hindus by this time, had partition not happened, leading to fears among conservative Hindus, massive conflict and possibly, political fragmentation into several separate states. In all, I thought it was a necessary evil to avoid the greater anarchic evil. Afghan Historian 18:21, 13 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Little context in Aitzaz Ahsan

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Aitzaz Ahsan, by UnitedStatesian, another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Aitzaz Ahsan is very short providing little or no context to the reader. Please see Wikipedia:Stub for our minimum information standards for short articles.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Aitzaz Ahsan, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note, this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Aitzaz Ahsan itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 05:15, 1 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Unspecified source for Image:Muhammadalipasha.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Muhammadalipasha.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 12:22, 10 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 12:22, 10 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Hey there, good suggestions. If you have knowledge of the topic I would appreciate any contributions you might make, if you want to. :) SGGH speak! 21:18, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Cool, thanks! I'll rumble through those sources and see what I can do! I will have a look at that article you mentioned too if you like. Want to give me a link? Actually, I'll probably find it in your contributions :) SGGH speak! 23:24, 16 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned non-free image (Image:March1.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:March1.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 01:31, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This article could use some help — I saw your name on Wikipedia:WikiProject Pakistani districts and thought you might be interested. - Special-T 14:35, 24 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

With regards to the Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/Assessment/Battle of Panipat (1761) of Battle of Panipat, i think you may want to submit it to Military History peer review first. This helps fix any problems in the article before it gets put through the A-Class procedure. Any questions can be left on my talk page. Thanks Woodym555 20:39, 8 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The A-class review has come up with many suggestions to help you improve the article. Now that it has started i would try and act on the reviewers suggestions. I checked the edit history and yes, the improvement is quite remarkable! Well done. I would look at the reviewers suggestions and if you still want to have a peer review first then leave a note on my talk page or on the assessment page. I will then help to get it changed to a peer review. Woodym555 23:41, 9 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I have just added an oppose to the review. This means i don't yet think it is up to the A-Class assessment criteria. I have left suggestions on how to improve it. I have also created a Lead for you. I don't think there is a template, see other battle featured articles for a basic hint.e.g Lochry's Defeat, Invasion of Tulagi (May 1942) others listed at Wikipedia:Featured articles#Warfare. Hope my suggestions help. Woodym555 14:11, 11 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have edited the article today to create some subheaders and to follow the milhist guidelines. Check for any errors and feel free to correct them

I also started adding some citation templates and found some problems with the text and its referencing. I have left a detailed summary on the talk page. A quick summary is that much of it the text is copied from a webpage and many of the references are third hand and they need to be properly cited and verified. Thanks Woodym555 15:30, 14 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Vandalism of Pashtun Articles

We need to work on getting users like Behnam and Anoshirawan banned or blocked because they are severely vandalising Pashtun culture and Pashtun people related articles. An example is that of Mirwais Khan Hotak and the Hotaki dynasty, where they are trying to show that the Hotaks were not Ghilzai Pashtuns, but were Tatars or Uzbeks.zakka 13:55, 24 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Panipat 1761

Glad to know your efforts. Really appreciate them.

Trust you have read T S Shejwalkar's "Panipat 1761",available in both English and Marathi, probably one of the best books on Indian history ever written.

People like Shejwalkar wrote largely in Marathi and hence are not accessible outside.

Hello, The map you have put up on the 1761 Panipat war has German legend. Is it possible to get an English one? Secondly, the image of Nanasaheb Peshwa which you have, is I think of Peshwa Nanasaheb II (Nana Sahib) of the 1857 uprising. Could you please confirm this? Salilb (talk) 04:47, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, the Peshwa pic will have to be removed. As for the map, I think we could let it stay till anyone raises serious objections or manages to change it to English. I dont mind doing the German-English conversion some time, time permitting. BTW, why was the picture of the battle removed? Salilb (talk) 21:55, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Aredshirt.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Aredshirt.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 06:06, 2 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

Image permission problem with Image:Index r5 c2.jpg

Image Copyright problem
Image Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading Image:Index r5 c2.jpg. I noticed that that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the image (or other media file) agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the GFDL or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the image to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the image has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Images lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Stifle (talk) 09:44, 29 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

You are now a Reviewer

Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, is currently undergoing a two-month trial scheduled to end 15 August 2010.

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under pending changes. Pending changes is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial. The list of articles with pending changes awaiting review is located at Special:OldReviewedPages.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

If you do not want this userright, you may ask any administrator to remove it for you at any time. Courcelles (talk) 18:33, 17 June 2010 (UTC) [reply]

Fair use rationale for File:Durrani.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to File:Durrani.jpg. I notice the file page specifies that the file is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the file description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion.

Nomination of Mehran Bank scandal for deletion

A discussion is taking place as to whether the article Mehran Bank scandal is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia according to Wikipedia's policies and guidelines or whether it should be deleted.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Mehran Bank scandal until a consensus is reached, and anyone is welcome to contribute to the discussion. The nomination will explain the policies and guidelines which are of concern. The discussion focuses on good quality evidence, and our policies and guidelines.

Users may edit the article during the discussion, including to improve the article to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. Guy (Help!) 11:32, 27 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Better source request for File:Shujauddaulah.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:Shujauddaulah.jpg. You provided a source, but it is difficult for other users to examine the copyright status of the image because the source is incomplete. Please consider clarifying the exact source so that the copyright status may be checked more easily. It is best to specify the exact Web page where you found the image, rather than only giving the source domain or the URL of the image file itself. Please update the image description with a URL that will be more helpful to other users in determining the copyright status.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source in a complete manner. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page or me at my talk page. Thank you. Magog the Ogre (talk) 22:25, 20 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

The article Adam Khan and Durkhanai has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No evidence of notability, only outside link is a 404

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Replaceable fair use File:BritishIndianArmysoldiers.jpg

Thanks for uploading File:BritishIndianArmysoldiers.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Melesse (talk) 05:27, 8 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
