From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is an old revision of this page, as edited by Tanough (talk | contribs) at 09:14, 23 June 2012 (Made list of living spanish people by autonomy). The present address (URL) is a permanent link to this revision, which may differ significantly from the current revision.

This is a list of verified Spanish supercentenarians (people from Spain who have attained the age of at least 110 years). There have been 45 verified supercentenarians from Spain.[1] The oldest person ever from Spain was an unidentified woman with the initials M.A.C.C., who died in 1996 aged 114 years 220 days. The oldest identified person was Joan Riudavets, who died in 2004 aged 114 years 81 days. As of 13 August 2024, there are 2 verified living supercentenarians, the older of whom is Francisco Fernández aged 123 years, 20 days, as well as 2 pending in Spain.

Living Spanish supercentenarians

Below is a list of the oldest living people from Spain. Those listed as verified have been validated by an international body that specifically deals in longevity research, such as the Gerontology Research Group. Those listed as pending have provided at least one document supporting the claimed age but not the three necessary for validation. Those that are unverified have provided no documents to support the age claimed.

Josefa Salas

Josefa Salas Mateo (14 July 1860 – 27 February 1973) was a Spanish supercentenarian and the verified oldest recognized living person for 3 years 47 days, between the death of 111-year-old Ada Roe on 11 January 1970 and Mateo's death at age 112 years 228 days. Mateo was succeeded in title by then 111-year-old Alice Stevenson. Mateo was the first verified Spanish supercentenarian, and also the first verified person documented to die at age 112. Mateo was the last person to become the oldest living person before becoming a supercentenarian, as she became the world's oldest person at age 109 years 181 days. She was also the youngest to have made the list since its start in 1955, being 18 days younger than John Mosely Turner was at the beginning of his title and 21 days younger than Hannah Smith was. Mateo was also the last recognized surviving person documented as born in 1860 and is the fourth oldest Spanish person ever. (She was the oldest Spanish person ever at the time of her death, but her record was broken by Carmen Figueiró on 13 June 1996).

Aurelio Diaz Campillo (16 October 1878 – 13 June 1989) was a Spanish supercentenarian and Spain's oldest recognized living person when he died at age 110 years 240 days.
