A Good Day to Die Hard is an upcoming action film directed by John Moore slated to be released in theaters on Valentine's Day (February 14), 2013. It will be the fifth installment in the Die Hard series.

Premise

Not much of a plot has been revealed, but the film is set to have John McClane and his son taking on local forces in Russia.[1]

Production

On May 5, 2010, it was announced that X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The A-Team writer Skip Woods was in negotiations to script a fifth Die Hard movie, and that the film will be produced by Alex Young. Bruce Willis will again return as John McClane, and Willis said that he would like to see Live Free or Die Hard director Len Wiseman return[2][3][4] and even wishes to see the story take place outside of the United States, with a tentative title of Die Hard 24/7.

On October 5, 2010, during an MTV interview, Willis announced that a first draft of the script was finished and that shooting should begin in 2011.[5] Regarding a possible Die Hard 6, Bruce Willis told ShowbizSpy, "for me, I want to do Die Hard 5, then one final Die Hard movie—Die Hard 6—before finally hanging that white vest up for good".[6] Noam Murro was set to direct the film scripted by Woods and continue to develop the script,[7] but he left to direct the 300 prequel, 300: Battle of Artemisia, instead. Irish-born director John Moore is now signed on to direct.[8] The film is said to involve John McClane and his son heading to Russia.[9]

On 13 October 2011, the studio announced exclusively on The Jim Rome Show that the film would be called A Good Day to Die Hard and would be released on Valentine's Day 2013.[10] On the same day, sources at FOX Studio's indicated that Patrick Stewart was under strong consideration for the film's main villain, a disgraced Russian general who plots the assassination of the visiting U.S. President.[11] The Studio was looking at Liam Hemsworth, Aaron Paul, James Badge Dale, and D.J. Cotrona for the part of John McClane Jr. in the film.[12]

On February 22, 2012, it was announced that Jai Courtney would be portraying John "Jack" McClane, Jr. in the film.[13]

On April 4, 2012, it was announced that Sebastian Koch and Yuliya Snigir would portray Russian villains.[14]

Filming began as planned, on April 23, 2012 in Budapest, Hungary where filming will continue until May 14, 2012.[15] An action set was moved to the Hungarian Formula one race circuit Hungaroring.[16] Mi-24 helicopter actions were filmed above the river Danube in central Budapest, and another helicopter-related action — including live ammo firing for appropriate damage depiction — was filmed at a military shooting range in Hajmáskér, Hungary.[17][18]

After, the production is planned to move to Belgrade, Serbia.[citation needed]

It was reported in the set photos that Amaury Nolasco has joined the cast in an unknown role.[19] It was later confirmed that Nolasco, along with actress Megalyn Echikunwoke, have joined the cast. Nolasco will portray of friend of John McClane early in the film, while Echikunwoke's role in the movie is unknown.[20]

On May 8, 2012, actor Cole Hauser (who previously worked with Bruce Willis in Tears of the Sun and Hart's War) is reported to portray the supporting role as a villain named Collins.[21]

It was reported in May 31, 2012 that model Anne Vyalitsyna has joined the cast in her acting debut.[22]

On July 6, 2012, a fire broke on the set during a high-flying stunt that went awry, engulfing a building into flames. No one was hurt in the incident.[23]

On August 8, 2012, it was reported that Mary Elizabeth Winstead would be reprising her role of Lucy McClane.[24]
