Series 11

The tenth series of Strictly Come Dancing began with the launch show on 15 September 2012. The live shows commenced on 5 October.[1] Fourteen celebrities are taking part - the same number as last year. Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly returned to present the main show on BBC One and Claudia Winkleman returned to present the results show with Daly. Judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood all returned and have been joined on the judging panel by Darcey Bussell, who replaced Alesha Dixon.[2]

On 20 June 2012, it was announced that Katya Virshilas would not be returning to the show as a professional.[3] On 23 June 2012, it was announced that Karen Hauer of Burn the Floor fame would replace Virshilas.[4]

The show will be broadcast from Wembley Arena on 17 November with all proceeds going to the BBC charity, Children in Need.[5] On 21 October 2012, it was reported that the newly reunited Girls Aloud and Kylie Minogue will perform during the show at Wembley.[6] The show on the 10 November will be hosted by Daly and Winkleman while Forsyth takes a break before the Wembley Arena show.[7]

This is the second series where the incumbent professional champion did not compete.

Couples

As with last series there will be 14 celebrities taking part, the professionals were revealed on 23 June 2012.[4] The full line-up was revealed on 10 September 2012 on The One Show.

Johnny Ball was originally partnered with Aliona Vilani; however, following an injury sustained in training, Iveta Lukosiute was hired as a replacement partner.[8] This was originally intended as a short-term measure until Vilani was able to return; however, following doctor's advice, it was confirmed that Lukosiute would be Ball's full-time partner.[9]
