Sherwood is a largely residential area in the north east of Nottingham, England. It is approximately 1.5 miles (2.3 km) North of Nottingham City Centre. It is bound by Woodthorpe and Basford to the north-east, Mapperley to the east, Carrington and Sherwood Rise to the south, Forest Fields and New Basford to the south west, and Bestwood to the north.

The city ward of Sherwood (which includes some adjacent neighbourhoods) is represented by Nottingham City Council and has three Labour Party councillors (Alex Ball, Brian Parbutt and Jane Urquart) who run local surgeries twice a month.[1] It lies in the Nottingham East parliamentary constituency and was previously represented by Labour M.P. History

Several carved, dated stones in buildings indicate development in the area was between 1870 and 1910, during the growth of the lace industry. There are also several listed buildings [citation needed]. Clawson Lodge on Mansfield Road was designed by local architect Watson Fothergill.

On Mansfield Road there is a 'Murder stone' which commemorates a young girl called Elizabeth Shepherd who was murdered in 1817 whilst seeking employment. Thousands of people walk past this stone each day - it is situated at the foot of the rise that leads to Harlow Wood, near the Orthopaedic Hospital[3] .

Sherwood Bus Depot was built in 1900 by the Nottingham Corporation Tramways as part of the extension to the Carrington Line to Winchester Street. 1 January 1901 saw the Sherwood route commence electric tram services, which continued until replacement by motor buses on 6 September 1936.
