Help

Hello thank you for your help the other day. I have made the changes you suggested to Wikipedia talk:Articles for creation/Night By Night . I have submitted it for review - please could you look at it and hopefully it is acceptable. I appreciate your help. Regards,Wikirob78 (talk) 19:32, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Done, and it is more than acceptable now! Pleased to be of service, jcc (tea and biscuits) 19:53, 21 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thank you, unfortunately another editor has put a notability tag on it which seems unfair as it the article has 18 references. I have left a note with the editor who put the tag in but could you look into it and remove this tag if unfair. Thx Wikirob78 (talk) 22:21, 22 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Done, although you should remember having dozens of references doesn't necessarily mean that it is notable enough, but in this instance what I have just said doesn't matter! Also, when I visited the Night by Night page, I realised that your photo of them was about to be deleted because Night by Night didn't link to it, although it did. This was because you put File: .... when to link to a photo, you should put "[[ ]]" around the File:.... . Remember this as this is one of the main reasons valid photos get deleted! I don't want it to seem as "telling you off", but just trying to advise you. Thanks, jcc (tea and biscuits) 21:01, 26 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

A reflist is not needed two times! One reflist is enough. But when I save it, wiki showes me:

Spam filter notice Jump to: navigation, search Your edit was not saved because it contains a new external link to a site registered on Wikipedia's blacklist.

  • To save your changes now, you must go back and remove the blocked link (shown below), and then save.
    • Note that if you used a redirection link or URL shortener, you may still be able to save your changes by using the direct, non-shortened link - you generally obtain the non-shortened link by following the link, and copying the contents of the address bar of your web-browser after the page has loaded.
  • If you feel the link is needed, you can:
    • Request that the entire website be allowed, that is, removed from the local or global spam blacklists (check both lists to see which one is affecting you).
    • Request that just the specific page be allowed, without unblocking the whole website, by asking on the spam whitelist talk page.

Blacklisting indicates past problems with the link, so any requests should clearly demonstrate how inclusion would benefit Wikipedia.

The following link has triggered a protection filter: http://vv vv vv.ilike.com Either that exact link, or a portion of it (typically the root domain name) is currently blocked.

Maybe you can do it??? -- Frze (talk) 11:38, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

After taking ages to search the entire English Wikipedia spam blacklist and discover that it was actually on the MetaWiki spam list, I have found where it is blacklisted: \bilike\.com\b [1]. Also, I am finding that the Ref list is not showing and at the bottom of the page is still "Cite error: There are ref tags on this page, but the references will not show without a Reflist template or a references / tag (see the help page)."- is it the same for you? The reason why Ilike.com is banned is because it is an alternative domain of MySpace and somewhere on the circuitfest webpage, it links to MySpace. I will get back to you later when I hopefully find a resolution! jcc (tea and biscuits) 12:07, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed the problem- a dead link to MySpace was buried in the article and I removed it and now the Ref list works. jcc (tea and biscuits) 12:07, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Well done! --Frze (talk) 12:07, 27 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, I am not really sure about what you are asking for in terms of SUL in the Spanish wikipedia. Can you please reply there to my question? thanks, Poco2 12:06, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I do not think you should have closed Talk:Ana Ivanovic#Requested Move 3 as no consensus. Instead you should close it by following the policy and guidance of the article title policy and its naming conventions. I have been asking those who support the move to explain why they support it and in every case it comes down to their own personal preference, not one has justified the move based on the AT policy. -- PBS (talk) 13:46, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi PBS! The reason why I closed it was because it was always going to come to personal preference over the use of diacritics. In this case, it was going to be impossible to come to a consensus over the use of a diacritic. Rather than fighting over the diacritic and losing you should accept that sometimes other people have different views from you. However, humans are not perfect and I most certainly am not perfect. If you really have your heart set on having a diacritic in the name, then I think you should seek admin input and BDD is an excellent admin (mention this case and my name as the one that closed it). Do let me know of what you decide to do, jcc (tea and biscuits) 15:14, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
While it is an opinion on whether placing diacritic on a name is "correct". It is not so open to opinion to follow the policy and guidance. That policy and guidance is diacritic neutral and say use the name commonly used in English language sources. If editors examine the evidence and attempt to decide on what is common usage they can usually agree that even if they can not agree on what is otherwise and in their opinion "correct". Those who wish to move a page need to show that the name to which they propose to move it is more commonly used in reliable English language sources then the current name. Therefore I do not think you should close it as no consensus. -- PBS (talk) 15:27, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
However, editors did not do that, and I refused to participate in the discussion and I was just closing it. If I had closed it as move page, that would be inserting my opinion. It is not my fault that editors cannot decide on whether to include diacritics or not in names. The argument that more sources quote her without a diacritic, in part, I feel balances out the diacritic neutral problem. Note that I said balances out rather than is more important. Again, if you still oppose my opinion, I point you in the way of seeking admin input and BDD is an excellent admin (mention this case and my name as the one that closed it). Do let me know of what you decide to do, jcc (tea and biscuits) 15:55, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
If you do not base you close of an RM on the AT policy and its naming conventions you ought not to be closing that RM. -- PBS (talk) 16:10, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Please could you reread my answer. I did base it on AT policy but as I have said (and you have said) editors haven't aregreed on common usage. Again (for the third time), I point you in the way of seeking admin input and BDD is an excellent admin (mention this case and my name as the one that closed it). If you have any further accusations of me, please reply. Do let me know of what you decide to do, jcc (tea and biscuits) 16:37, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I have not accused you of anything. I have not intention asking BDD to doing anything. I am bringing to your attention the fact that you should base your close on a consensus that takes into account "consideration to the relevant consensus of the Wikipedia community in general as reflected in applicable policy, guidelines and naming conventions" (Wikipedia:RMCI#Determining consensus) something I do not think you have done.
you said earlier "Note that I said balances out rather than is more important" and now you say "I did base it on AT policy" where is there any balancing out in the AT policy? You say "editors haven't aregreed on common usage" but they did agree on common usage in English language sources, it is just that some people think that that part of the AT policy should be ignored in favour of their "correct" option. If this interpretation of mine is incorrect, other than the proposer, which other editors who were in favour of the move do you think question the usage that other editors opposed to the move asserted was the common English language usage?
I hope next time you are faced with a debate like this one you will, look at the arguments in light of the policy and naming conventions and dismiss arguments that are of the type "support or oppose" opinions "because I don't/do like it" rather than arguments based on policy, and close the debate on the weight of the arguments framed within the AT policy. Now, I think I have said all I can say on this issue, and so I will not trouble you further unless you specifically ask me a question, although I will have a look at your talk page in about 24 hours to see if you have placed a closing comment.-- PBS (talk) 18:07, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hello and how are you PBS? Erm, well without getting in an argument it was kind of you that they don't agree up top somewhere. Diacritics are really a sticky point in Wikipedia it seems! Some editors do favour them and others don't. I think the discussion became a bit too opinionated and as such I thought that no consensus might be better than a firm no move. This appears to have gotten in the way of us having a "gentleman's" discussion and as such I really am exhausted of words to say over one decision. I think really, if I had put no move I would have been fought back by those who had said support and no consensus I see has still had the same response (by you). You've really put me in a state of thought now. However, despite all that you've said, I am still of the same opinion as I was earlier on. Here's the question now. What would you say to this opinion (which I found the most convincing of the opinions that were neutral): Comment - Looks like time to close as no consensus - depending on the time of year this could go back and forth with ebbs and flows for awhile. Plus the same thing happened a year ago with a month of back and forth with no consensus to move. Fyunck(click) (talk) 04:16, 30 May 2013 (UTC) jcc (tea and biscuits) 18:39, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Jcc, although I, as most other editors evidently, disagree with PBS' interpretation of WP:AT, and disagree with his strongly held belief that sportspeople and others who mainly appear in low-MOS ASCII sources should be assigned low-MOS names, I would have to agree with him that your close failed to meet the requirements of Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions. You were obviously aware from looking at RM history that the user you describe as "most convincing of the opinions that were neutral" is the same User who initiated renaming this one Serbian lady, the only living foreigner on en.wp to be given an ASCII name, in the first place - so how does that make someone "neutral"? Also if you had done as requested, and relisted, then other third party users who were not the watchlisting this one page as the one hot point against foreigners' full names would have been able to drop in as passing traffic - a relist often produces less involved input. By refusing to relist you denied passing non-involved editors opportunity to make comment. And this one lady, uniquely on en.wp, has to have an "English name" for another year. It wasn't a good close. In ictu oculi (talk) 06:05, 21 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

You mistook what I meant by "neutral". I literally meant not a support or a oppose sentence. I've started a move review. jcc (tea and biscuits)

Hi Jcc. I can't say I agree with the content of this standard warning you use. Phrases like "Don't think that just because you made a bad impression now, you are beyond change" are a bit patronizing and in fact violate Wikipedia:No personal attacks: see the second sentence, "Comment on content, not on the contributor". Specifically, "you are beyond change" focuses on the contributor. (There's some awkward comma usage as well.) Moreover, I object to the reference to vandalism--for a first warning (which is how you used it on User talk:95.195.223.226) that's over the top and sounds bitey to me, and obviously to that IP editor. Why not use Template:Uw-vandalism1, or in this case Template:Uw-unsourced1, which is designed for just those kinds of edits? Thank you, Drmies (talk) 18:03, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Drmies. Well, I've overhauled it a tad bit and would really like you to check it again. I based it on this (maybe too much). Sorry, but I'm in a reflective mood at the moment (see above discussion and this IP's admin complaint) and can't really do more changes. Thank you, jcc (tea and biscuits) 18:43, 30 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Looks much better, thanks. (honestly, I don't see why you'd make your own if we have 'em, but sure.) Don't worry about the admin complaint: the IP found me because I placed a note in the ANI thread; you'll have seen that I closed down that thread very quickly. No need to worry. But, I'd like to add, I think that the IP wouldn't have been pissed off if it hadn't been for that vandalism mention in your template, and the "If you did this,..." is really a step up from the language of the standard level-1 template: it leaves no room for error. Addition of sockpuppet templates

Hello, JCC. I noticed in this edit you added a sockpuppet template to this user's talk page. This can create a lot of confusion; for example, in this case, you included the "2=confirmed" parameter. This implies that the sock was confirmed by a checkuser, when in this case, it was not. In the future, I would suggest you leave the sock tagging to the blocking administrator. This administrator had already added a sock template to the userpage; a talkpage template was not necessary. Thank you. GorillaWarfare (talk) 15:01, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Very sorry sir/madame. Anything I can do to apologise/make up for it? jcc (tea and biscuits) 16:11, 31 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
