The Purge: Anarchy is an upcoming American horror-thriller film directed and written by James DeMonaco. It is the sequel to 2013 film The Purge and stars Frank Grillo, Carmen Ejogo, Zach Gilford, Kiele Sanchez, and Michael K. Williams.[1] It is set for a July 18, 2014 release date worldwide.[2]

Production
On June 10, 2013 Universal Pictures and Jason Blum announced the development of the sequel, after the success of The Purge.[11] Later on October 24, 2013, Universal announced the worldwide release date of the film as June 20, 2014, and that director/writer James DeMonaco will return for the sequel.[12]
On December 11, 2013, Universal added Frank Grillo to lead in the sequel film.[3] On December 17, four more actors joined the cast include Michael K. Williams, Zach Gilford, Carmen Ejogo and Kiele Sanchez.[5] On December 18, Zoe Borde also joined the cast.[9] On January 29, 2014, it was revealed that the official title of the sequel is The Purge: Anarchy.[13] On February 28, 2014 Universal has pushed back the release date of the film from June 20 to July 18, 2014.[2]
Filming
Principal photography was underway in Los Angeles when the Blumhouse Productions released their countdown promo art on January 1, 2014.[1] Filming wrapped on February 10, 2014.[14]
Release
The first trailer of the film was released on February 12, 2014.[15] On March 27, 2014, another full length trailer was released by Universal.[16]
The film will be released on July 18, 2014.[2]
