On 12 July 2014, Former Atlético Madrid midfielder Diego Ribas has completed his move to Fenerbahçe on a free transfer following the expiry of his Wolfsburg contract. However, following a lengthy spell of negotiations, the Brazilian has now signed a three-year deal with the Istanbul outfit at a reported salary of €3.5m per year after neither Atlético nor Wolfsburg opted to extend his deal.[8][9]

On 19 July 2014, Fenerbahçe, will play their first preparation match with the United Kingdom’s long-established club Sheffield United. Match will take place in Bramall Lane Stadium which is known as World’s oldest stadium and where Sheffield still plays their matches. Therefore, according to agreement between two teams, the match’s income will be donated to Soma.[15]
On 19 July 2014, Fenerbahçe, will be host of taking part in a mini-tournament which organised by IMG-Doğuş AS, will run in a mini-league format, with one point awarded for a draw and three for a win. The team with the highest number of points after all matches have been played will be crowned winners of the competition. Fenerbahçe, will play two 45-minute matches against English giant Chelsea and their Istanbul neighbours Beşiktaş at the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium. All proceeds from the mini-tournament will go towards helping the victims and families of those who suffered when an explosion at a mine in Soma on 13 May killed 301 people, the worst disaster of its kind Turkey has suffered.[16][17][18]
