Tim Ho Wan
Tim Ho Wan is a Chinese dimsum restaurant chain that originated in Hong Kong.
History
The restaurant first opened its doors in the area of Mongkok in 2009 by Mak Kwai-pui, who was formerly a chef of three-Michelin-starred restaurant Lung King Heen. It soon became a popular restaurant as it soon became known for its long queues.[1]
Tim Ho Wan would eventually earn a Michelin star of its own in the 2010 Hong Kong and Macau Guide, a distinction which some have stated was a move in response to the criticism that the Michelin Guide was "elitist" and "out of touch with local tastes."[2] Since then, the restaurant has been dubbed as "the world's cheapest Michelin-star restaurant."[3]
Expansion
From its original Mongkok location, Tim Ho Wan expanded into 5 branches in Hong Kong (as of April 2015) while the original Mongkok branch was relocated to a bigger area.[1]
Tim Ho Wan also began expanding overseas with the opening of its first international location in Singapore's Plaza Singapura in 2013.[4] It also expanded to the Philippines with the opening of a branch at SM Megamall in Metro Manila in 2014[5] and in Australia the following year with the opening of a branch in Chatswood.[6]
