03:47:10, 8 April 2015 review of submission by MikePotter84

I need to add pictures to my article. How can I do so?

MikePotter84 (talk) 03:47, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @MikePotter84: It depends what type of image you'd like to add.
  • Is it an official logo of the mall/company? You can upload it here on Wikipedia as a copyrighted non-free file. However, non-free files should only be used on live articles. Since your page is a draft, you'll want to hold off on doing this until your draft is an article.
  • Is it a picture you took yourself? You may upload it at the Wikimedia Commons, a repository for free media files. You'll have to choose an appropriate free license to publish your image under.
  • Is it a picture you found on the web? It will have to have been freely licensed by its author in a way that's compatible with the Commons - that is, it has to be free for anyone to use, for any purpose. The vast majority of images you find online are fully copyrighted and not published under a free license.
If you have any questions or need any elaboration, feel free to ask. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 15:02, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Request on 05:34:24, 8 April 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by BMHyatt

Apparently I am unsure of what I need to do to submit an article and have it published. My article was rejected. BMHyatt (talk) 05:34, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@BMHyatt: The overriding problem with Draft:Texas Rattlesnake Festival is that it links to only the festival's official page and Facebook page - it cites no independent, reliable, secondary sources. Because it is a small, young festival, there may be no such sources, in which case there will be no Wikipedia article.
No sources turned up in Google searches. You can try searching regional media outlets - newspapers, radio, TV stations, and magazines - that may not be indexed by the major search engines. You'll need to find multiple sources with significant coverage, and at least one will have to be outside the local area. Worldbruce (talk) 06:42, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

07:46:36, 8 April 2015 review of submission by Logeswar M

Hello , I have drafted an article about doodleblue private limited but it got rejected due to insufficient independent sources even though I have provided 3 independent sources. I could not find any other independent sources for the company. I don't know how to proceed now. Whether I need to reduce the content or finding few more independent sources is the only way ? Thanks in advance Logeswar M (talk) 07:46, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Logeswar M (talk) 07:46, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The onus is on you to find sources. We require references from significant coverage about the topic of the article, and independent of it, and in WP:RS please. See WP:42. No sources = not a topic we will accept. IT has not just been pushed back to you for sourcing. The latest reviewer has suggested it is an advert. You may wish to visit that issue, and ought to open a dialogue with them. Fiddle Faddle 23:13, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

15:11:54, 8 April 2015 review of submission by Jasprogis

I made a page about The Echo, a student-run newspaper at Western Connecticut State University. I cannot find any sources other than primary ones -- the university website, the university Wikipedia page, and The Echo's webpage itself. For this reason my article got declined. It's an existing publication so I want to make a page for it. Any advice?

Jasprogis (talk) 15:11, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi @Jasprogis: Well, if there aren't any independent and non-primary sources, then the subject most likely does not meet our notability guidelines. Even if it is an existing publication, not everything gets an article on Wikipedia - we only cover subjects that are considered noteworthy through significant coverage in independent, reliable sources. ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 15:33, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Jasprogis: Even if there aren't enough sources to show that the subject is notable enough for its own article, you could flesh out the Student newspaper section of the Western Connecticut State University article. --Ahecht (TALK

21:20:31, 8 April 2015 review of submission by 3Wolves

The draft entry "Bioss" was declined on March 31 with the explanation "This submission appears to be taken from http://www.bioss.com/about/our-history/. Wikipedia cannot accept material copied from elsewhere, unless it explicitly exists under a compatible licence and is written in an acceptable tone".

Since I had submitted a compatible license (following all instructions including a page archive at webcitation.org) I'm assuming that the issue was "acceptable tone", but I'm not exactly sure what part of the article was unacceptable. If possible, I would like to cut the unacceptable elements, even if it means removing entire sections, rather than having to rewrite the entire article from scratch.

However, when I click through the link to "ask the reviewer that declined your submission", I note that that reviewer has been blocked: "(6 April 2015 Beeblebrox blocked SD0001 with an expiry time of 2 years (account creation blocked, email disabled, cannot edit own talk page)"

Is there any way to request another reviewer to view the page and advise more specifically what elements should be removed or rewritten?

Many thanks! 3Wolves

3Wolves (talk) 21:20, 8 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@3Wolves: I've undone the blanking and put the appropriate template on the page. It's back in the queue for a second opinion. --Ahecht (TALK

I'm wondering if I could get a more detailed explanation of the reason(s) this article was not accepted, so that I can try to improve it. Is it the type of sources or the information itself that needs to be changed? Jmc881 (talk) 14:33, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Jmc881: I did a quick search and he's been in the news a lot about the Mendel Art Gallery renovation, so I think it's an acceptable article for Wikipedia and have passed your submission. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 16:17, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Dcw2003 (talk) 16:07, 9 April 2015 (UTC) I have submitted an article for creation from my user sandbox, and wasn't certain if this piece which is intended to be an article will be considered for creation in this space. Potentially Draft:Dave Palitz ‎, which I have just moved to that name from the sandbox.

100.3.164.207 (talk) 16:28, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I have built a page for the muti-media artist Mikee Plastik, whom I represent. It was declined once, for references, I have since gone back and re-edited in several references, many from notable sites, such as MTV.com, and various official film IMDb sites for projects that he has been involved with, etc... I want the references to work with the article... I could go through Plastik's Google listing and archives and add dozens more references from music sites, reviews, etc... but feel there is enough listed at this moment in time (nearly a dozen verifiable references) without having to list more for the sake of just doing so. Want to keep what I have wrote well rounded for the type of artist he is and somewhat brief, in order to give other users room to make their own edits and statements about him and his work. Hopefully, I won't have to ruin the way that the article is formatted just to clutter it up with reference after reference, which would make it read as a dong slinging article.

no Declined for reasons stated on the draft. The referencing is misunderstood. Fiddle Faddle 16:39, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

19:48:23, 9 April 2015 review of submission by Sabrinap2015

I have been told their are issues that need to be corrected so need assistance in how to specifically make those corrections?

Sabrinap2015 (talk) 19:48, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Sabrinap2015: I have corrected some of the formatting and resubmitted the article. I've got to nip out in a mo, but it looks notable enough to pass from a cursory look. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 20:04, 9 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
However, it has been in main namespace for some time. On that basis I have just declined the Draft version. Fiddle Faddle 07:44, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Timtrent: - what I tend to find useful in those circumstances is to quietly redirect the draft to the mainspace (it was created by the same user). I did quickly look yesterday before heading out the door, but the mainspace article was "Profiles In History" so I didn't notice. I've cleaned things up a bit now. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 08:22, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That also works. Fiddle Faddle 08:38, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Kindly advise on the article.

It wasn't meant to be an advertisement as the review suggests...it is just information on who and how the business was started and where it operates. There is no mention of its products nor how it operates...i dont believe it thus qualifies as an advertisement. Kindly review or advise on what i should remove/edit for it to comply.

Isaiah.

My article link is https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:International_Cities_of_Peace Please let me know who i can move forward to publish my page.

@Icpnaveed: Your article is queued for submission, however while you have fixed the basic formatting problems outlined by @Timtrent:, there is a more basic problem in that there doesn't appear to be any reliable sources that explain in depth why the organisation is important or should have a Wikipedia article. You need to put references to those (not whole websites, but specific pages, or even better, pages in books) otherwise the submission is likely to be declined again. It would be very helpful if I could modify the filename of my already created article Abraham Jacob Hollandersky so that it can be accessed as Abe "The Newsboy" Hollandersky. This should greatly increase its visibility to users trying to access Abe's bio via the internet. He never really used his middle name, and nearly every article on him and his book referred to his ringname "Abe the Newsboy".

Can I do this myself my moving the source code to a created file space using Article Wizard?

I can remember the other articles that link to the file, and change the links with no problem.

THANKS, I would love to be able to do this!!!

You can use the "move" process to do this. We "move" rather than rename. An alternative approach is to create Abe "The Newsboy" Hollandersky and create it as a redirect to Abraham Jacob Hollandersky, considering adding Abe the Newsboy as well. Fiddle Faddle 19:52, 10 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

07:25:41, 11 April 2015 review of submission by Andrew Foss

Hi. Thanks for reviewing my article. I am a little confused as to why it needs better references as I have cited from the protocol definition itself which is referenced. There would be no more credible source than this.

Andrew Foss (talk) 07:25, 11 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

This is always a challenging area. The source document is authoritative, yes. It is also a primary source. See WP:PRIMARY. It shows with clarity what the thing is, but not that it is notable. A great many things exists, but do not warrant an article here. Your job is to show how this one does. Fiddle Faddle 13:07, 11 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

How do I add an image of Sydney Freeland?

Ferdosaabdi (talk) 02:35, 12 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Are you thinking of uploading an image? If so, there's a good summary at WP:UPI. Basically, you have to check that you have copyright permission to upload the photo. As the reference indicates, "most images you might find on the Internet are copyrighted and not appropriate for uploading to Wikipedia. If you did not create the image, or if you are unable or unwilling to verify its copyright status, do not upload the image." So it depends on what sort of picture of Sydney Freeland you have. Do not, please, ever paste material from external sites into Wikipedia. Once is a mistake. Twice is tantamount to deliberate copyright violation. Such actions militate towards a block, so please be more wise in your approach. All words on Wikipedia must be 100% your own. Please read WP:COPYRIGHTS, a long read, but essential knowledge. Hi! Yes, independent reviews would help substantiate the claims made about Christian Kirsch in your draft. Note that sources do not necessarily have to be Internet-based; you can use books, newspapers and other media too, per WP:GNG, as long as they meet the reliable, independent source requirements. wia (talk) 14:35, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Question: Is the article you are referring to the Alex Kyza draft? If so, you will have to do some research and find reliable, independent (third-party) sources that discuss the subject in significant detail. Follow the links in the message to learn about what sorts of references are considered reliable and independent on Wikipedia. Once you've found suitable references, add inline citations to the draft so that readers know which statements are supported by which references. Thanks, wia (talk) 00:18, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Adamross01: Hi Adam, I've formatted the references for you. The draft doesn't have a realistic chance of going live any time soon. Per WP:NFF, "films that have already begun shooting, but have not yet been publicly released should generally not have their own articles unless the production itself is notable." I am wondering why this article was not approved. I don't believe it sounds like an advertisement. I am not part of this company and I am completely impartial. Why does this article sound like an advertisement? Jnorman15 (talk) 18:00, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Jnorman15:, I'm not the reviewer, but some content from the "History" section sounds slightly promotional to me. In particular, the sentences "It first opened its doors in Richmond Hill in January of 2005. It is currently located on 8054 Yonge Street in old Thornhill. The clinic was established with the goal of professional, timely, and efficient patient care to anyone in need" need a bit of work. "It first opened its doors" is familiar language and should probably be replaced by "It opened". "It is currently located on 8054 Yonge Street in old Thornhill" does not need to be in the body of the encyclopedia; perhaps you can add an infobox to the article and put the address there. And finally, the statement about "professional, timely, and efficient patient care to anyone in need" reads like promotion, since there is no reference to support it and because the language chosen is buzzword-y. Don't all clinics strive to offer professional, timely and efficient care, after all? wia (talk) 12:00, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am no programmer, and trying to communicate with you this way is hard for me. I am username kimoller, in fact D. Kimbrough Oller, Professor at the University of Memphis, and previous author of two wikipedia articles, one of which seems to be in fine shape, the other of which apparently needs some corrections, which I will try to do in the next month. I have just completed a new draft article on Burton D. Carley, who is an extremely prominent American clergyman of the denomination of Unitarian Universalism (see Wikipedia article). For 32 years he has pastored the Church of the River (First Unitarian Church of Memphis)(see Wikipedia article), and all along has played a nationally and internationally significant role in the denomination, which traces its history to the Reformation in central Europe (Romania, Hungary, Poland), and has been a very significant denomination in American history (Presidents John Adams, John Quincy Adams, Millard Fillmore, and William Howard Taft for example were Unitarians). Other famous Unitarians were Walt Whitman, Ralph Waldo Emerson and Henry David Thoreau. The denomination is small by comparison with Baptists for example, but extremely influential as you can see by the list of prominent players, which incidentally goes on and on.

Burton D. Carley's national profile may be best illustrated in the fact that he was selected as the lead player in the formulation of the curriculum (titled " Whose Are We? Manual of the Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association") that is now used to train ministers and lay leaders in Unitarian Universalism. He developed this curriculum in collaboration with the Rev. Dr. Laurel Hallman, minister emerita of the First Unitarian Church of Dallas. Carley also trained the facilitators of the program. They also created a lay version of the curriculum for congregational use, and presented a program on it for the 2011 General Assembly of Unitarian Universalism. Together Carley and Hallman edited "Not for Ourselves Alone: Theological Essays on Relationship, Skinner House Books, Boston, 2014." All these facts can easily be verified with materials posted online by Unitarian Universalist Society and Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association. many of his sermons, prayers and poems are available also online. Being an academic, not a clergyman myself, I am not sure what the best references would be to make these points more verifiable. Could you advise me please?

141.225.96.232 (talk) 20:09, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@141.225.96.232 and Kimoller: Thanks for your submission. The problem with the article is that Wikipedia policy on biographies requires that you show that the subject of the biography has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject of the article. This means that you generally would need to cite multiple examples of a reliable source unaffiliated with Mr. Carley or his church, writing about the person. For example, if his writings are widely cited by his peers, adding examples of specific citations to the article would probably be sufficient. --Ahecht (TALK

I am writing to request help on inserting a gallery on the page for "Joe Stickley," a local St. Louis musician. I entered the .jpg filenames from my desktop, but have a feeling I am doing it wrong. The pictures do not show up on the preview page, but the file names do.

23:20:01, 13 April 2015 review of submission by Etna-research

Hello there. My suspicion is that the article submitted requires additional notable sources. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Etna-research (talk) 23:20, 13 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Etna-research: We require references from significant coverage about the topic of the article, and independent of it, and in WP:RS please. See WP:42. Your four existing references all require replacement with references that meet all of these criteria.. Limited deployment of primary sources such as the org's own web site are allowed. See WP:PRIMARY, but deploying that in {{Infobox school}} is a far better way. At present the draft would be susceptible to immediate nomination for one of the deletion processes were it in main namespace.
Trust our automatic contents generation. Please remove the hard coded 'contents' section.
I advise most strongly on a change of user name. Yours appears to represent an organisation, or to be promotional, or to be one used by more than one person. Such things are against our policy. Wikipedia:Changing username will assist you. Fiddle Faddle 06:04, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

04:15:54, 14 April 2015 review of submission by Brandongjy93

The comment I got due to rejection was: "The "How to" e;events and prohibited items sections suggest this is promotional

Many of the references are regurgitated press releases and PR material. These must be replaced or removed, please. They provide an aura of faux notability which is not required and adds no value. Indeed it diminishes Wikipedia's value."

However, when I viewed a company from the same "industry" wiki page for instance, eBay, they were allowed to publish their prohibitory items as part of their content. Why is this so? Shouldn't there be standardization for every wiki page?

Also, as mentioned there were credibility issues raised with regards to my sources. What then will equate to being a good source if I were to retrieve most sources from the web? Online news article on Carousell for example? Please assist. Thank you.

Hello, I am creating an article about my dad but since it has the same last name as mine, I have received this message indicating that the article needs to be moved to the user page. How can you help me fix this?

Abbaspourtamijani (talk) 06:11, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

No, you have not, or, rather, not exactly. What you have received is part of the review process on Draft:Mohammad Hossein Abbaspour Tamijani, where I have declined the draft for the reasons given. Your job now is to edit to to deal with those issues and resubmit it for further review.
You have also received a welcome notice, a generic notice, which assumes that you have written an autobiography. Since this is not so you may ignore that with pleasure. Fiddle Faddle 06:38, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hi,

I had submitted a page creation request for this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draft:Meritnation , but the reviewer asked for more citations / references.

I have now edited the page and added citations / references from leading news sites for all the facts mentioned therein.

I request you to review the content again.

Thanks in advance for your time!

15:42:20, 14 April 2015 review of submission by Jonfostersmith

I am standing on May 6th to bring digital democracy to UK Parliament, so this is urgent... Digital Democracy is a party registered with the UK Electoral Commission in March 2015 [1]. It will form policy from the app www.truedemocracy.uk as well as other respected digital democracy apps. A basic page is needed to correspond with candidacy listing on https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenilworth_and_Southam_(UK_Parliament_constituency) MAny thanks"

Jonfostersmith (talk) 15:42, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

On the contrary, this is not urgent at all. Wikipedia does not have, nor need, articles about every political party registered with the UK Electoral Commission. Your organisation must meet the requirements of Wikipedia:Notability (organizations and companies) in order for an article about it to exist on Wikipedia. Official Monster Raving Loony Party is an example of a UK political party that meets those requirements... though the sources provided for its Wikipedia article could be improved. As has already been recommended to you, you should be aware of policy Wikipedia:Conflict of interest. Arthur goes shopping (talk) 15:58, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Jonfostersmith: This page is for questions about the Articles for creation process. If you would like to start writing a new article, please use the Article wizard. If you have an idea for a new article, but would like to request that someone else write it, please see: Wikipedia:Requested articles. I hope this helps.
You have previously started the Draft:True Democracy Party (UK) article. There are some suggestions for improvement at that page already, so perhaps you can work on that article instead of creating a new one. However, I will warn you to read carefully Wikipedia's policy on conflicts of interest. Conflict-of-interest editing is strongly discouraged on Wikipedia. I hope this is helpful! wia (talk) 15:52, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, I do not understand why the article about Dean Constantin has not been inserted. Based on my understanding, the guidelines are dully respected. If anyone could help resolving what is missing, I will be glad working on the related issue. Thank you very much. Emma

Emma Stanley (talk) 16:33, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Emma Stanley: The problem is that the sources you have given are either unsuitable (eg: IMDB, other Wikipedia articles) or don't give us sufficient information to show why he should have a Wikipedia article. On the "Submission declined" box, you can see some links to search for other sources, one of which is this news search which brings back several hits mentioning him. The sources are mostly non-English (mainly French, one Romanian), but if you can pick out sufficient information from those, they could be used. Request on 21:13:04, 14 April 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by Etica

Dear editors, we are surprised by the rejection of the Metropolitan Touring entry as we modeled it closely on the existing Hilton Hotel entry (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hilton_Hotels_%26_Resorts). The rejection also notes a lack of independent sources, but all sources we indicated as footnotes are independent. We would therefore appreciate a more precise review of the submission, indicating specific points wherein the text reads like advertising, so that we can change this.

Kind regards Etica

Etica (talk) 21:13, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Etica: It's not a good idea to use an arbitrary Wikipedia article as an example to base yours off of. Since anyone can edit Wikipedia, existing articles are of varying quality. If you visit the Talk page of the Hilton article and click on "show" next to the Wikiproject banners, you will see that it is only rated "Start-class" on those project's quality scale. You would be better off using B-class, Good, and Featured articles as examples instead.
As to your sources, Wikipedia requires that you show significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject of the article. The Cruise Critic reviews are user-generated and therefore not reliable sources. The other sources aren't significant coverage of the company itself -- they are mostly about the destinations or a certain ship/property. --Ahecht (TALK

) 21:33, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Etica: I'll add also that some of the "Current Properties" section of the draft reads rather promotionally. Sentences like "La Pinta, a 207-foot yacht, is considered one of the top luxury vessels sailing the archipelago, and designed for the luxury segment in the tourism market" could be interpreted as an advertisement for the boat. Phrases like "top luxury vessel" are often peacock words and should be avoided. wia (talk) 21:45, 14 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The biographical data I submitted in December 2013 on Ralph Hodsdon Leavitt was published this month in On-Point, an Army History Journal, April 2015 with title "One Soldier's Experiences in War," as well as with many illustrations. Is there anyway you can now publish this info on Leavitt given that it is similar to published information and is no longer simply primary research? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.212.233.156 (talk) 21:55, 14 April 2015‎ (UTC)[reply]

01:26:28, 15 April 2015 review of submission by Whitesquire

Could someone please tell me how I move this article out of draft status? The reviewer had me add references and then directed me to the Help Desk for the next step. Do I upload it somewhere? Whitesquire (talk) 01:26, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Whitesquire: Hi Whitesquire, the article is submitted for review and should be reviewed in the next week or so. The reviewer will let you know once it's been reviewed and what the outcome is! wia (talk) 01:31, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Wikiisawesome: There must be a quicker way. When I first started this process, there were basically two paths to choose from. Obviously, I chose the longer path. What are the pitfalls of the other path (ie, uploading directly)? Whitesquire (talk) 01:43, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Whitesquire: The AfC process is designed to be a method for unregistered users to have their articles approved (since non-registered users can't create articles). It's also a good way to improve an article in a "safe" draft space without worrying about the article being nominated for deletion. Since you are a registered user, you are allowed to create an article right away without using the AfC process. But the AfC process is a good method too, and it tends to provide useful article feedback. Hang tight; it shouldn't be too long of a wait. wia (talk) 01:50, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Wikiisawesome: I have contributed as an unregistered user for years, but this is my first article, so I appreciate your feedback. Maybe my next article I will try to upload it directly. Can you suggest a good place for me to start learning more of the rules and syntax of Wikipedia? Whitesquire (talk) 02:13, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Timtrent: Thanks for the feedback. How do I move it out of draft status? Do I upload it directly and then somehow delete the draft? Whitesquire (talk) 18:40, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Whitesquire: Every editor (after a short qualifying period) has access to the Move function. Wikipedia:Moving a page tells you all. I do suggest, though, that you allow the WP:AFC review process to play itself out. Why? Our role as reviewers is to seek to ensure that an article will not immediately be subject to one of our deletion processes when it is accepted. That is why we push it back to the author. We want to accept articles. I'm going to have a look at your draft with particular attention to referencing. I may be able to accept or push to back to you if I feel I'm competent to do either. Fiddle Faddle 19:24, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Whitesquire: Ok, I;ve set the status to be "being reviewed" because there is a technical matter I cannot overcome when I tried to accept the draft. You would not have been able to make this move either. I've left you a comment on the draft to tell you. Give it a few hours. We need admin assistance. Admins are usually pretty quick to sort this stuff out. It's a pretty thankless job for them. Fiddle Faddle 19:33, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Timtrent: Okay, I appreciate your efforts, and I noticed that same thing about an existing article on the subject. However, I could only find the main article titled "South Carolina Gamecocks", which is about all of their sports teams, not just golf. I bring this to your attention in the hopes of not accidentally having the main article replaced with mine. In fact, I wrote mine to complement the main article and to eventually link to mine from the main article. Whitesquire (talk) 20:12, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Whitesquire: of course. Do not worry, all is in hand. We just await help. Fiddle Faddle 20:23, 16 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I am trying to add an article on the place where I work. It is (and the title of the article) The Center for Computational Science at the University of Miami. There are no bold claims, just facts about what they do and what equipment they have. There are at least 6 cites. I don't understand why the eVeritas (UM Journal), WorldNews, and Top 500 Supercomputers list site are not enough to verify all the 'claims' (statement of facts) in the article. It's not like any research theories are being proposed. We here (location), we do this (list of topics), we offer this (equipment specs). The Center has been around since 2007. It's part of the UM Research network. If it's not 'important' enough, then okay, but it's verifiable by reliable sources (in my opinion). I feel like I have adequately cited it. Would you please tell me what else I can do (if there is anything)? I want people to know the CCS exists. It's as big a part of UM as anything else already listed there.

Actionmoviefreak (talk) 13:20, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Actionmoviefreak: Hi! One issue I see with the references is that they are mostly primary sources. It's fine to use primary sources to supplement the core information of an article, but they shouldn't be used as the main references for notability purposes. This is because primary sources are often not independent of the subject-matter at hand. Of the six references in the article, one is a press release and four are published under or by the University of Miami. Only one is independent, but it doesn't say anything substantial about the Center for Computational Science. If I were you, I'd try to find some independent, third-party sources that discuss the CfCC in significant detail. Thanks, wia (talk) 13:37, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]
All except one of the references originate from the University itself and the only one that doesn't is merely a listing. You need to find and use a few totally independent sources that specifically discuss the CCS in substantial detail - only then will the subject's notability be established. 17:54:00, 15 April 2015 review of submission by ChickDaniels

Thanks for everyone who has helped me thus far. This is my first attempt at creating a wiki page. One of the problems I am facing is I have very solid photographic evidence for all the data I am posting, and sometimes I see that it is more accurate data than what printed or online sources show. Specifically, about ten years ago I saved hundreds of photos off from e-bay that prove my data, but of course I cannot upload these photos. So I can appeal to faulty sources, or I can post what I know to be true based on photographic evidence. Could I use as a reference a current e-bay listing? If I did that, the auction will be gone in a week and the photo would last only 3 months or so. Any tips would be appreciated. ChickDaniels (talk) 17:54, 15 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

The challenge you face with personal evidence is that it is considered to be anecdotal, and thus not properly admissible. You point out correctly that eBay sources are not useful. This is doubly the case since any pictures there are often breaches of copyright anyway. Linking to them would be a major issue for us.
WP:TRUTH may infuriate you, but it is a guiding principle. We will always prefer that which is cited to be true over that which is known to be correct. One thing you might find hard to do is to step away from the article for a while, actually a good while, and monitor what happens to it now it has been accepted. Be its father, not its mother. Let others have a go. Yes, revert vandalism, but allow yourself to be pleased when someone else picks up the baton, even, perhaps especially, when they have a different approach from your own. Request on 23:58:40, 16 April 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by Kimoller

I wrote for assistance a few days ago but could not initially find a record of my message, but now with some help I have found it, along with a response. I now have a more concrete inquiry about verifiability and notability. I submitted an article about Burton D, Carley (not accepted yet, on notability and verifiability grounds), who is a very prominent national level clergyman of Unitarian Universalism (see Wikipedia article) and has been pastor of the Church of the River (First Unitarian Church of Memphis) (see Wikipedia article) for 32 years. The fact that he is a prominent leader is easy to verify in a regular magazine publication called UU World. If I include in the submitted (revised) article, website locations where the archive of the magazine (published quarterly since at least 1999, with a current circulation of 126,000) provides independent references to his roles in the national organization, would that be sufficient to meet the verifiability and notability requirements? There are additional independent sources like this that verify Carley's role as a significant leader in Unitarian Universalism. Would it be useful to cite more of these additional sources? Would website addresses where information from these sources can be found be sufficient? For mentions in the magazine, we can cite issues, dates and page numbers of references to him if necessary, but I think it would seem to clutter the article.
