The OnePlus 2 (OP2) is a smartphone designed by OnePlus and the successor of the OnePlus One. The phone was initially revealed in a news leak in December 2014, which labeled the smartphone in development as the "OnePlus One Mini". OnePlus then announced the smartphone's official name as OnePlus 2.[1] CEO Carl Pei later confirmed that OnePlus will officially announce the phone in Q3 2015.[2]

Development

The OnePlus 2 is expected to be in development until its release in Q3 2015. In January 2015, it was reported that the OnePlus 2 was delayed to a late 2015 release, possibly due to hardware issues with its processor.[3] In early April 2015, CEO Carl Pei confirmed the OnePlus 2 doesn't feature wireless charging.[4]

Specs

Hardware

The OnePlus 2 is expected to house a 2.7 GHz quad core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 processor coupled with 4 GB of RAM, an Adreno 430 GPU, and 16, 64 or 128 GB of storage, powered by a 3,300 mAh battery. It is also going to have nano-SIM card slots. Leaks showed that it has dual-SIM and microSD card slots.

OnePlus's next flagship is also expected to feature a 5.5" LTPS JDI IPS LCD with Quad-HD resolution and Touch-on-Lens technology. The phone features a 16 MP camera with a 6-Lens Sony Exmor sensor and a 5 MP front camera.[5]

Data inputs can include: ambient light sensor, gyroscope, accelorometer, barometer, proximity sensor, and fingerprint reader (similar to the Samsung Galaxy S6 and the iPhone 6).

Connectivity can include: NFC, Bluetooth LE 4.1, Wifi 802.11a/b/g/n/ac, 2G GSM/GPRS/EDGE, 3G CDMA/HSPA/HSPA+/EV-DO Rev. A and B/DC-HSDPA, and 4G LTE.

The OnePlus 2 does NOT feature (these were listed in rumors):

  • Wireless charging
  • microSD storage expansion
  • A 4K display

However, it is unconfirmed that the OnePlus 2 will be a dual-SIM.

Software

The OnePlus One ships with Cyanogen OS. But due to the end of the partnership between OnePlus and Cyanogen, there's a doubt that the OnePlus 2 will ship with it. Instead it will ship with OxygenOS, OnePlus's in-house operating system based on Android 5.0.2 "Lollipop".

OnePlus 2 devices in China may ship with OnePlus's other in-house operating system similar to OxygenOS, known as "HydrogenOS", specifically for OnePlus devices sold in China.

OnePlus One Lite

OnePlus is allegedly creating another model of the OnePlus 2, known as the "OnePlus One Lite" which is going to be more affordable than its predecessor.[6] It has updated specs and it is cheaper. It will ship with OxygenOS.
