Teahouse talkback: you've got messages!

Hello, CosmicEmperor. Your question has been answered at the Teahouse Q&A board. Feel free to reply there!
Please note that all old questions are archived after 2-3 days of inactivity. Message added by David Biddulph (talk) 11:48, 22 January 2015 (UTC). (You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{teahouse talkback}} template).[reply]

Some bubble tea for you!

The red heart at the top of user pages make you able to give some wiki love. It can be food, barnstars, kitten or even your own design. When the food thing started I do not know. Probably pretty early just like the barnstar thing started pretty early. I thought this was an easier answer to show you instead of posting back at the teahouse. POTD template

It looks like it's updating. Have you tried clearing your browser's cache? Adam Cuerden (talk) 13:20, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Adam Cuerden (talk) Actually if you check my User Page revision History The Herald helped a bit by doing this https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User%3ACosmicEmperor&diff=653124662&oldid=653110724

Fair enough! If there's more issues, let me know. Preferably while it's still showing the wrong day. Adam Cuerden (talk) 15:49, 24 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Masala Dosa

Looks fine to me. Cheers, Acroterion (talk) 11:49, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Acroterion: a redirect Masala Dosa already exists to Dosa . But I am sure Masala Dosa requires a separate page .--CosmicEmperor (talk) 11:58, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Then I'd suggest a little greater emphasis on the fact that it is a variation on dosa right up front. One could argue that it might be a subset of dosa, to be included there, but I think you have a case for a stand-alone article. I don't have enough experience of food-related topics to have a sense of how we determine whether a separate article is useful for a variation on a culinary theme. Acroterion (talk) 12:09, 21 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Regarding: File:Subrahmanyan Chandrasekhar harvard.jpg

Your rationale is "... The picture is too old and the copyright has expired..."

Do you know how old it is? Are you sure it is now in the public domain? Anna Frodesiak (talk) 08:26, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Anna Frodesiak:I found the date as 1938 here - http://www.nbi.dk/cgi-bin/search-nba?form=1&katAll=1&katS=on&mode=Search%20archive&search . the person who took the picture can be an unknown photographer who is completely forgotten .

Source is AIP is American Institute of Physics , and this is the page - http://www.aip.org/history/acap/biographies/bio.jsp?chandrasekhars

This is the policy for usage of that pic - https://photos.aip.org/use-policy --C E (talk) 08:48, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks. I asked a few folks at the IRC commons channel. They think it is likely PD because of no "Notice or Renewal", but not 100% sure. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 10:13, 22 April 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Teahouse Badges

While trying to give barnstars to others, I couldn't find teahouse barnstar in my list. But i saw that on other user's talk page. Or only tea house Hosts can give it?

You can find teahouse badges here. I would think that the status quo would be that only hosts give them, but don't let the status quo stop you! I dream of horses If you reply here, please ping me by adding {{U|I dream of horses}} to your message. (talk to me) (contributions) @ 07:28, 1 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

There is a lot to tell about notes: but consider reading WP:NOTES. It will give the answer you want.

Keep your cool

You absolutely must remain on the right side, i.e. Wikipedians who protect the project. This puts you on the other side. Return to this side and stay here. Tell me you definitely understand. Anna Frodesiak (talk) 09:04, 20 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

IPv6 Addresses

It is, indeed, as you say, very hard to remember IPv6 addresses. That isn't the fault of Wikipedia, and it isn't the fault of IPv6, which is a necessary upgrade to the structure of IP addresses. To the extent that anything can be done, it is to encourage the IPv6 editors even more strongly to register accounts, precisely because it is impossible to remember IPv6 addresses, as well as in order to get the privileges of registered editors. Why don't you take that to WP:VPP? Robert McClenon (talk) 14:59, 23 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Featured Article

If a visit a featured article, how can I find the editor who contributed enough to turn that article into featured article. I don't want to know who reviewed it; I want to know who is responsible for making the article as featured. As i have seen the latest edits are made by Ips and new users.C E (talk) 18:03, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

If you go to the article's talk page, there's a link to the featured article candidate page. There, you can see who the person was that nominated the article for FA. For example, for Albert Speer, go to Talk:Albert Speer, click on "Featured article candidate" under Article Milestones, which takes you to Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Albert Speer. Nominator and primary author for this example was Wehwalt. -- Diannaa (talk) 18:21, 29 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Is there a reason you have made 231 edits to this page? It's odd considering it's previous account of yours (diff) which hasn't been active in a year. You're basically posting warning and welcome messages to yourself and I wondered if there was an explanation for this. Liz Read! Talk! 11:06, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

@Liz: I don't know why you are interested in my old account, whose password I forgot.

Check the end of this page.

But this might answer your question.

And sometimes i like using specific options which cannot be used frequently in reality, as most people vandalize. You see Twinkle has many options which i don't get the chance to use. Look i am not an old man, always i can't be mature. Sometimes i visit Wikimedia commons and spend my time watching pictures. I edit movie pages. You can guess i am younger than most people here.

And why were you checking through my edits after months.?

If i give those excessive messages to others; i will be blamed for personal attacks.Cosmic  Emperor  11:28, 2 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I wasn't questioning that you had created a new account, no problems there. I just didn't understand why you had made 231 edits to the talk page of your old account, including sending yourself warnings. It doesn't make any sense.
As for how I came across it, I often look at the Edit Counts/breakdowns of editors, usually every day, to see what subjects they work on and I noticed you had made more edits to User talk:LoverBoyInGarden than to User talk:CosmicEmperor which I thought was interesting. I thought you might have an explanation but I guess not. Liz Read! Talk! 00:52, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Liz: I was practiSing "Twinkle".Cosmic  Emperor  02:01, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
That's as good an explanation as any. Thanks, CE! Liz Read! Talk! 19:44, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Errr....

A random sock just showed up on my talk page to slander you. They're blocked but...that was weird. Keep an eye out. PanydThe muffin is not subtle 19:17, 3 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I also get a lot of troll accounts that come to my talk page and talk trash about CE. I don't know why they come to me. Liz Read! Talk! 00:54, 6 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Talk page

How to give Orange coloured big arbitration warnings . I have seen them on talkpages. Is there any list of such Orange arbitration warnings?Cosmic  Emperor  07:28, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Do you mean Template:Ds/talk notice? If so, there is a list of all the current variants in that template's documentation. Yunshui  10:26, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Just occurred to me that you might want {{Ds/alert}}, which is for making users aware on user talkpages. It's not orange (at least not on my monitor), but that might actually be what you're after instead. Again, the variants are listed in the documentation. Yunshui  10:53, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Please read my comments at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Ananny and Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Long-term abuse/Ararat arev. This appears to be a very ill-thought out campaign to circumvent piece by piece, the strong consensus at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/Wikipedia:Long-term abuse (2nd nomination) to keep all LTA pages, especially those with ongoing abuse. Given the backlog at Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion and the potential editor and administrator time these nominations are going to waste, I strongly suggest that you not nominate any further LTA pages until these two are closed. Voceditenore (talk) 12:06, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Please don't nominate any more. I'll note it's hard to understand why you chose two active long term abusers. Doug Weller (talk) 12:43, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Doug Weller: and Voceditenore (talk) read my second and third comment there.--Cosmic  Emperor  12:50, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
WP:DENY is about trolls who feed off recognition, not POV-pushers (such as Ararat Arev) or spammers (such as Ananny) who do not care about recognition. I almost have to ask if you bothered to actually read any of those three pages. Even if those two users are blocked and act in bad faith, it was as appropriate to apply it to our logs about their activities as it would be to apply it to... Why, your talk page. Ian.thomson (talk) 15:08, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ian.thomson (talk) What do you mean by Why, your talk page.?Cosmic  Emperor  15:12, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Your talk page is used to convey information to users, not seek recognition, right? Ian.thomson (talk) 15:14, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ian.thomson (talk) You think I was seeking recognition? I don't know which country you are from, but you must use formal English. What exactly are trying to say? I understand your first lines. Now the last line: i understand this part Even if those two users are blocked and act in bad faith, it was as appropriate to apply it to our logs about their activities as it would be to apply it to..., but how this has connection to your previous statements- Why, your talk page. Cosmic  Emperor  15:23, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Where did I say you were seeking recognition? WP:AGF. Those two pages are to convey information to other users about those users. Your talk page is here to convey information between you and other users. I'm merely trying to point out how ridiculous it was to nominate those pages for deletion, especially on the grounds of WP:DENY. Ian.thomson (talk) 15:29, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Ian.thomson (talk). There must have been a reason why articles are created about vandals. I found a shortcut to know the reasons. I nominate for proposed deletion::people vote keep, keep giving reasons.

My main interest is to remove personal details, their cities, names from those articles. Few months ago Mark Nutley was changed to Darkness Shines 2. I want that to be done in this case. I don't care for Vandals with usernames with no personal details. But some names look like real persons and I don't want that vandal to be knpown by his real name.Cosmic  Emperor  15:35, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

That is WP:POINTy behavior. If you wanted to their personal details removed, you should have asked so on the talk page. Names you might have a shot of arguing for removing if you can demonstrate that they never released that information themselves, though location will likely be a little harder if they sock from IPs with a consistent location. Ian.thomson (talk) 15:50, 19 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I would recommend avoiding nominating for deletion any pages in the Wikipedia space. They are for housekeeping and policy matters and Wikipedia doesn't have a shortage of space. Liz Read! Talk! 19:46, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Sockpuppet investigation

Hi. An editor has opened an investigation into sockpuppetry by you. Sockpuppetry is the use of more than one Wikipedia account in a manner that contravenes community policy. The investigation is being held at Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/CosmicEmperor, where the editor who opened the investigation has presented their evidence. Please make sure you make yourself familiar with the guide to responding to investigations, and then feel free to offer your own evidence or to submit comments that you wish to be considered by the Wikipedia administrator who decides the result of the investigation. If you have been using multiple accounts (in a manner contrary to Wikipedia policy), please go to the investigation page and verify that now. Leniency is usually shown to those who promise not to do so again, or who did so unwittingly, but the abuse of multiple accounts is taken very seriously by the Wikipedia community.
