Dinosaurs

WikiProject:Dinosaurs

Hi Firsfron! I have been extremely busy these few weeks, so I'm trying to get back to you regarding this edit you made on my talk page a while ago. You know what? I have been here for more than a year, and you are the very first Wikipedian to ever ask me to help write an article on behalf of a WikiProject :-) Not only that, your request was sincere and well put. I have to say, I'm not an expert on dinosaurs, but I will make an honest effort to contribute to those articles that you requested: Otogosaurus, Palaeoctonus, Palaeocursornis, and Palaeopteryx. Hopefully I can start May 1st. Anyway, I wanted to recognize your efforts with this minor barnstar. Take good care of it, and may it bring you all the best there is on Wikipedia! --HappyCamper 21:34, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the barnstar, HappyCamper. I appreciate it. Even more, I appreciate your willingness to help out with a few articles. Recently, WPDinosaurs has started feeling like a real community, with many people writing articles and editing existing problems. With your help, we'll finish off the article creation process, and can begin work on building, revising, merging, categorizing, and verifying the existing articles. It doesn't matter if you're not an expert; sincere efforts written in a good encyclopedic style are just great! I've added "your" four dinosaurs to the "reserved" pile on the Missing Dinosaurs page. Take care, and thanks again,--Firsfron 23:40, 26 April 2006 (UTC) :)[reply]

WikiProject: Dinosaurs

Hi HappyCamper!

I wondered if you had made any progress on the dinosaurs you have left. We've got just 19 dinosaurs left on the List of Missing Dinosaurs! Woot! What a relief. We started out with over 1,000, and we're down to the last dregs. Although admittedly, most articles are still in need of expansion.

I just wondered if you'd had time to work on them. No pressure or anything. I just thought maybe you were busy, or having trouble. You'd left a comment on the project page asking some questions, and I later thought maybe I didn't volunteer enough information. Sorry about that. That's the thing. When we come down to the last few dinosaurs, it's usually dinosaur articles no one wanted to create, since they're often obscure, or hard to find good info on... I just wanted to drop you a line, and say that if you were having any problems, I'm here to help. :)

Take care, --Firsfron 00:06, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Great job, HC. You know, you were given some rather difficult dinosaurs (the last dinosaurs picked are the hardest, because it's hard to find info on them, so no one picks them), and you still managed to pull it off. The Otogosaurus article was your best effort, but I'm glad you were able to create articles for all four. Thanks! I already added a few details to each article, to flesh them out a little, working from the bones you provided, if you'll pardon the pun! Eventually, these will be full-fledged articles, and Otogo has already come close to that status. Thanks again. And feel free to add more data to these or any other dinosaur articles. You do nice work. :)

Quantum mechanics related

quantum optics operators template

I think it's a helpful template, but I can't decide how I feel about including both ladder operators and creation and annihilation operators. They're both helpful articles, but it somehow feels weird. Anyways, I just barely glanced at it as I'm out of town for the month and don't have much internet access. — Laura Scudder 13:33, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Operator

Hi HappyCamper! It would be a normal operator for a general orthogonal or unitary rotation, assuming that "i" and "j" are annihilation (without) or creation (with the dagger) operators, and if you added coefficients c_{ij}, the "angles" of the rotation. Without arbitrary coefficients, it does not make much sense to me. But even without them, it is a particular operator rotating by a generalized "1 rad" in a multi-dimensional space - nothing you would find natural. Best, Lubos --Lumidek 15:12, 14 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Matrix question

If a and b commute, I would use the fact that commuting hermitian matrices can be diagonalized simultaneously, and use a basis that diagonalizes both and . In the case where a and b do not commute, I have no idea what a "good" diagonalization should be. Kusma (討論) 22:57, 22 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Re: Arsenal of Democracy

How is that article coming along these days? My apologies for not getting back to you regarding your earlier questions on my talk page. At one point, I had so many posts on it that I lost track of your message! It wasn't until I went through my archives that I found out you were able to resolve some of the issues that you had. I'm glad to hear that went well. You were correct, I was on a brief break from Wikipedia - a wikinap let's say, for humorous effect :-) That was quite refreshing - I got to finish up some important things during that period! --HappyCamper 20:27, 27 April 2006 (UTC)

  • I figured you might have missed a few <G>. As I noted in the article talk, I've got to put that 'invention' on the back burner for a while. I'd estimate June before I can do much with the recommended directions to take it— I don't have the training as I noted there.
  • I did pick up a FDR biography (Well, two!) and 'ordered' a couple more references in from other networked libraries (Good Lib-Nets, and common here in New England, home of the public library!) so I can begin researching per the 'main' development suggestions... though they aren't precisely parallel, they're close enough to see what's available for information and start with note taking, and far enough from what I'd envisioned to need a lot of research. Shrug. A worthy topic, I'm a bit amused to be doing what is a large term paper at 51 years!
  • But essentially, I have a prior commitment that involves a lot of wikiWork, as no one else is currently working the Talk:1632 series project.
  • Both these timesinks are way off my normal 'technical patroling', but right in line with my historical and literary avocations. Helps that I'm actually a fan of this 1632 (novel) and milieu possibilities— I don't go in much for 'fandom' as it's philosophically against my grain, so to speak — but appreciate good work in many fields (Even when performed by phooey entertainers and musicians, Yuck!), so address it from that angle overall. Good thing, my initial 'blabs' got some POV tags, I've yet to 'cleanse'... that's all WIP, assuming I stop getting sidetracked (I'm in Collaborative fiction right now).

Anyway, the 12-15 articles needing work or writing there will dominate my wikiTime for most of May, or longer. It's spring -- Yardwork calls! Best! FrankB 20:53, 27 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

thanks for the advice. I see now where Jimbo Wales is involved. He's the head aministrator legal guy. I have also left him a message. If it gets in the newspapers, screw it. I don't care anymore. I've done all I can. The remedy is so easy,1) take the offending article down, 2) put up a protected barebones stub and then 3) take your sweet time about writing a NPOV article. that's not one of the options you vote on. that's the default option when you can't agree on one of the versions-which is the case. I see where you are interested in electronics and physics. Before i went to law school, i have a year of masters in electrical engineering and a B.S. in Physics. Happy Camper

Maybe it's my age, but I am "uncomfortable" with the idea of young kids having access to internet with the availability of some of the stuff I've seen on it. I'm for freedom of Media, but I got concerned about the kids being in danger by the baser elements on the internet when I inadvertantly conected with a kid when I was seeing who else was out there from Massachusetts. I was thinking, God who's out there to protect these kids. I steered her in the direction of sharing internet exchanges with her parents... so I think she's alright, but I feel there is a genral problem with internet access to inapropriet stuff for kids like that. This problem did not exist when I was a kid because the media was not there and so the danger wasn't either. It seems unethical? File:Peace Sign 2.svg Merlinus (talk)--merlinus 20:47, 28 April 2006 (UTC) [reply]

  • IMO, kids need to learn sometime. Why not teach them what's good and bad about the Internet, how to avoid naughty things and how to use it as a tool? They have to learn that eventually. — nathanrdotcom (TCW) 08:42, 29 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It's not so much a question of "why not", but more like "how" and "when". I don't think adults have access to the same information about the internet as kids do, and so they perceive the internet much, much more differently. --HappyCamper 12:46, 30 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Like you, I prefer my jokes to be on the subtle side. It's good when most people see the joke straight away (otherwise the point is lost), but it's interesting to see some of the debates that can ensue when someone takes it a tad too seriously. I felt I could get away with just pointing out that your post was a joke, without going so far as to explain what the joke was, which of course is anathema to any right thinking humorist. Cheers pal. If that amounts to an expression of regret for a wasted life, so be it). Right, I noticed that a while ago. Apparently it's because the button is a text character (•), so it is just in the center of a large line that happens to include some of the top buttons. It would probably be better as an image (with template:click), but that would use up more bandwidth for no good reason, and I'm too lazy to make the image anyway.

I had an ex-bf with that name (jeffy) :| — nathanrdotcom (Got something to say? Say it.) 20:11, 12 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

You might want to know...

It might never come to anything, but I thought you might want to know that this page is up. It's not currently added to the RfA page, and indeed, your name isn't quite right, but I still wanted to let you know. Joyous | Talk 02:48, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Someone else fixed it. The RfA was signed as though you had nominated (although with with a space between the "Happy" and "Camper"). Joyous | Talk 14:34, 7 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For the Record:

Samir? , it is apparent that you did not see the authenticity of my signature as seen below. It is I Merlinus. I edited a web page as is my right. I used my home made signature that was given to me as a gift bt Nathan.com nathan a month ago. If you go to the [user:merinus] page you can validate this fact. Please make sure that no prolems occur to me in reguards toi my editing as it was lawful by wikipedia rules. I will send Nathan a note reminding him of this also.

  • I support Gay Rights (Marriages/Benifits)
  • I am not religious, I am agnostic... (I hope there is god).
  • I oppose republican president and thier international policies.
  • I am opposed to the NRA (and guns right)
  • I support Civil Rights. (Esp. African American)

I just saw an anon IP changing User:Merlinus's user page and I didn't want the page vandalized. I didn't realize you weren't logged in. You can easily revert. Thanks. -- Samir (the scope) धर्म 22:48, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merlinus is at it again on my talk after having being warned. He's just received a second sterner warning from me. Care to do some research when you have time?

(I know you can't checkuser, but maybe a warning from an admin will get his attention?)

It seems quite fishy that edits from an anon IP are being signed "Merlinus".

He's at it again repeatedly. (I can do this all night till I get to 4 reversions if I need to..)

Thanks. — nathanrdotcom (Got something to say? Say it.) 23:10, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

He's left some bizarre messages on my talk page as an anon also. Thx. -- Samir (the scope) धर्म 23:43, 9 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
  • Just a note to suggest that not all of those with whom Merlinus has had disagreements and to whom he has responded incivilly have been of questionable; even as I readily understand the reason for your using the term and your general desire to placate Merlinus, inasmuch as he has the makings of a good, if sometimes vituperative, editor. Since he's referenced me (though not nominatively) twice supra, I thought I ought to note that I surely wasn't trolling when I queried him apropos of child sex abuse; having read on his talk page that he is, as I, a member of Amnesty International, I asked him how he might reconcile such membership with his user page calls for sundry violent punishments for sexual predators--my question was not at all tendentious or rhetorical and was designed to effect a conversation betwixt another editor whom I found interesting and me (which one will readily appreciate from the staid, pensive response he initially offered). I surely was not trolling and do not edit, as anyone will know, to push any pro-NAMBLA POV, and, Merlinus' imputations to that effect aside, I thought I ought to note that some of us with whom he has had a problem have not acted untowardly. Joe 06:46, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Duly noted. Not to worry, I have been following some of Merlinus' interaction with you and others from a distance. I am not too fond of the word "questionable" myself, since it is rather loaded. At the time, my main concern was to resolve some other issues which took precedence. I will talk to Merlinus about his interaction with you as soon as I can. --HappyCamper 17:42, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
His actions vis-à-vis me were altogether fine (perhaps a bit over-the-top, but I've long since made clear that, even as they may be disruptive to the project on a general scale, personal attacks against me aren't something with which I'm particularly concerned or about which I'd ever seek admin intervention); I simply didn't want anyone to infer that actively starting arguments. Keep up the good work! Joe 19:45, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Very well, you at least I feel I can trust if you say he did not send me the Vandalizing E-mail to my home. I still feel (otherwise) but never-the-less, I will drop it if you say so. It all has really upset me though. --merlinus 13:14, 10 May 2006 (UTC) Your user talk page was confusing about the events that happened yesterday. I placed the events in the order that they happened, as can be verified by looking at the dates and times. Marc--merlinus 13:26, 10 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Break

I'm starting to wonder now why I'm getting nothing but problems from other Wikipedians since I left Esperanza. I wonder if it's Wikipedia's way of getting revenge for leaving. :\

I can only handle so much BS, so I'm taking a break. I hope this thing with User:Cyde is solved soon and hopefully I won't be roasted alive by the admins for even mentioning another admin's conduct but anyway... (The Cabal will eat me)

If you look how fast problems solve but only to create more problems (ie. Merlinus, then Gangsta-Easter-Bunny and the AfD - yes AfD - on my Vandalise page, then Cyde...), in a way, it can't be a coincedence.

I have to say it, people have screwed up and I really can't see anywhere where I could've gone wrong. I posted "There is no policy" (when there isn't), I told Cyde and Kelly Martin that they're both attacking (when they are) and just a whole snowball effect happened. I tried to be as civil as humanly possible (considering being civil isn't the first reaction I get when I feel attacked).

I'll be back when people decide to pick a new target. I do not have 'bother me, i have a mood disorder and I'll freak out on you and give you exactly what you want!' tattooed on my forehead, do I?

Anyway, if you can help in any of this, I'll be really grateful. — nathanrdotcom (Got something to say? Say it.) 03:16, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hmph. Big kafuffle on WP:AN now, combined with a big kafuffle (this one justified) because I was blocked by Tony Sidaway for a "stupidly long signature" (which is not a policy reason, in my opinion, and I do know policy). I'm also being accused of "disruption" because I refused to capitulate to Cyde's and Kelly Martin's demands. I'd really like to know why people seem to think I'm such an easy target. Just watch: Things will calm down and something else will happen. :\ — Nathan (Got something to say? Say it.) 07:06, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I'm so sorry, we missed each other by minutes. My last edit at 02:50, and your first post at 03:16. Let me know when you come back - you know where to find me. --HappyCamper 19:10, 15 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
That's ok. You know where to find me, I'm hiding. — Nathan (Got something to say? Say it.) 02:34, 19 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Nope...

That was a bunch of lifeless scum that have been stalking me on Wikipedia for over a year. elvenscout742 20:11, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Yup. And at least one of them has done so with an account - the main one has an account, but I'm not sure if they've used it directly against my page. They did admit to the recent ones being their doing, though. elvenscout742 20:18, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks! elvenscout742 20:20, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

yeah fine then

I was going to change it back straight away but you changed it first....how'dyou do that so fast? ........anyway why did you delete my second edit? did you even read it?........it was actually a proper edit.....(well it wasn't vandalism).

Hello 86.42.77.179, and thanks for dropping by! I had a hunch you were going to change it back, but I guess you could say, I happened to be there right when it happened :-) I did analyse your edit - and I agree, perhaps "vandalism" wasn't quite the precise term for it. However, I think those edits have been occuring for a very long time, and it has been bothering that particular user for quite some time now. I'm glad you agree it is a good idea to stop. Why not make an account yourself and contribute to this project? After you do that, come by my talk page, so I can give you a nice welcome. Yes, contributing to an encyclopedia can seem sort of distancing, but it can be fun too. Try it out! I'll wait for you to come by again :-) Cheers! --HappyCamper 20:28, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

when did i agree that it was a good time to stop?.......I'm not saying i'll be doing it again.....there's nothing more left to do anyway....but i don't recall ever agreeing to anything

Oh, I see. I understand. Thanks for the clarification. --HappyCamper 20:55, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Hi

I have a question about user 65.170.1.10. I am fairly new to Wikipedia so if I'm approaching this wrong please let me know. This user has had many warnings. In addition to the unreferenced tag being removed, just yesterday this user deleted an AfD tag from the page. Isn't that considered vandalism? Let me know.... thanks. JohnM4402 22:59, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, if you don't mind me answering, I think that, from the looks of this, it seems like this IP is shared by multiple users, which would explain for the greater than normal amount of warnings. G.He 23:03, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Not at all, here's some of my reasoning here. --HappyCamper 23:12, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]
