Ian McFarlane

I have removed the Notability template placed on this article, I have explained my reasoning at the article's talkpage. Further discussion should occur there.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 00:36, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

re Ian McFarlane

Hi, I wasn't as organised as I should have been. I have placed a detailed response to their good work on Talk:Ian McFarlane. So, hopefully they won't see us as drive-by taggers ('cos I'm not into that). I apologise for putting you in an uncomfortable situation. You were completely justified in tagging that article, and at the end of the day Wikipedia has an improved article. I have done a copyedit on Ian McFarlane to fix some MOS & a typo. Have a great day.CaesarsPalaceDude (talk) 11:58, 8 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@CaesarsPalaceDude: Absolutely no fault on your part. This is what the {{notability}} tag is for: to notify other users that notability has been questioned, so that people interested in the article can work to improve it. And what do you know? Had you not wrote the question at the Teahouse, the article would probably be left unchanged for years to come. I totally agree: at the end of the day, we have a better Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions, and have a nice day! Mz7 (talk) 01:51, 9 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Please check out Ayers Rock (band)

I have tagged the article Ayers Rock (band) for POV, after placing a detailed explanation of the (multiple) issues on the talk page. The dynamic duo from last time, and Mr. Ian McFarlane are the names which are coming up. Could you, please, have a look at the article & the talk page? I'm not asking for anything else. I am prepared to run with this one. Thanks for your thoughtful actions on Ian McFarlane. Have a great day.CaesarsPalaceDude (talk) 11:10, 10 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I've replied at Talk:Ayers Rock (band). Cheers, Mz7 (talk) 19:48, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Re - insert the picture of Tim Gosling please?

Hello,

This picture of the Designer Tim Gosling has been released to me by the photographer who works with Tim Gosling and I filled in the release form and he has sent in evidence which I posted as follows : ( yes) The license statement can be found online at: [ http://www.mainstreamimages.co.uk/terms.asp ] ( No ) The license agreement has been forwarded to Wikimedia's copyright service at "permissions-en@wikimedia.org".

This is a publically used portrait of the Designer and it is freely available online.

I have been given permission to use it on the Wikipedia site.

Please can you reinstate the image now?

Thanks. Custardpieboy (talk) 12:10, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Custardpieboy. I do not have the necessary privileges to view the email containing the permission to use the photo. If you have already sent an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, wait for an email in response. The OTRS agent who will review your email will make the necessary changes for you. For some reason, the link you have provided to mainstreamimages.co.uk appears to be down. It might be a temporary thing, so I'll try later on tonight. For the purposes of clarification, could you provide a link to the image that you have been given permission to use? Best, Mz7 (talk) 19:17, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Insert picture of Tim Gosling

Hi M27. Thanks for helping . The link to the picture of Tim Gosling is : https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=File:Tim_Gosling_-_Furniture_Designer.jpg&action=edit&redlink=1

I have also lost the piece of work that I put on to illustrate the work of the designer - File:Straw Marquetry Bar Cabinet.jpg) ( this also has permission for use

File:Straw Marquetry Bar Cabinet.jpg
Straw Marquetry Bar Cabinet

Also I have provided links to other pages and from other pages and would like to have the orphan status removed please? Custardpieboy (talk) 13:10, 12 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

@Custardpieboy: I'm sorry, but in order for me to see the images you have to first upload them to Wikipedia. Again, I do not have the privileges to verify the permissions for the images. If you sent an email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org with confirmation of the permission to use the images, you will have to wait for an email in response. Do you think you can provide an external link to the images, as in a website (not Wikipedia) where you can see the images? Unfortunately, http://www.mainstreamimages.co.uk/terms.asp appears to be not working, so I can't see the permissions. I'm sorry for being so unhelpful, but Wikipedia needs to make sure that all copyrights are respected. Sincerely, Mz7 (talk) 17:58, 13 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Picture Question

Hi Mz7, I have a question, I easily can do steps one and two to make an animal picture appear on an article but when I try to scroll down to step three, it does not work,do you know why?Sincerely SmartRaven305 (talk) 13:35, 14 April 2014 (UTC)♥[reply]

@SmartRaven305: I am assuming you are referring to the Wikipedia:File Upload Wizard. If you want to upload an image from your computer to Wikipedia, there are certain things you have to know. Wikipedia is free content, meaning everything on Wikipedia can be used by anyone for any purpose as long as they credit Wikipedia as the source. In order for this to hold true, we can't use pictures that are fully copyrighted. Therefore, we have a very stringent image use policy. We can't simply use any random image from the Internet. The best way to ensure that the image you are uploading is OK to use on Wikipedia is if you created the image yourself (ie with your own camera). Otherwise, you have to make sure the image is available under an acceptable free license. For step 3 in the File Upload Wizard, you have to select one of the choices in order to proceed: 1) if you can demonstrate the image is a free work, 2) the image you are uploading is copyrighted, but it is okay to use on Wikipedia because it satisfies very special conditions, or 3) you don't know the copyright status of the image. If you select the last option, the File Upload Wizard will stop and tell you not to upload it, this is because Wikipedia takes copyrights very seriously. If this doesn't answer your question, leave a follow-up below and I will be happy to clarify. Mz7 (talk) 23:41, 14 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

My articles

Hi Mz7,

I got a message from you regarding my articles to be reviewed through the AFC process. You asked "Would you like your articles to be reviewed through the AFC process, or do you want to leave them in the main article namespace". If I want to skip the AFC process, what is going to happen? and what if I want to go through the AFC process? Thanks.

Cheers,

Thanks for the reply and explanation. I will skip the AFC process for those articles. Thanks for removing the banners asking for an AFC review.

Request for WP:ROLLBACK

Hi I am A.Minkowiski, you might remember I was searching for "How to fight against vandalism" and you answered me on TeaHouse. I've successfully enabled Twinkle and fighting against vandalism and reporting vandals on W:AIV quickly if they go overhead and the they were successfully blocked. It would make easy for me if I would have ROLLBACK rights to fight against vandals. I leave request for WP:ROLLBACK @ Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Rollback but haven't got any response from there. I am requesting you if you grand me such rights. I am well aware about guidelines and usage of ROLLBACK, so I can assure I will use them positively. Thank you. Best regards. A.Minkowiski _Lets t@lk 13:31, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi A.Minkowiski. The rollback right is granted by administrators. I am not an administrator on Wikipedia, so I do not have the technical privilege to grant you the right. Note that usually, accounts should have at least 200 edits to show the necessary experience for rollback, but it is ultimately at the discretion of the administrator who reviews your request. Regardless of the outcome, Wikipedia is certainly improving positively from your editing. Best, Mz7 (alt) (talk) 16:30, 15 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I successfully got ROLLBACK. Thank you A.Minkowiski _Lets t@lk 19:54, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Your suggestions were quite helpful, without your help I might not have known about Wikipedia guidelines of vandalism and how to fight against vandalism. Thanks again. A.Minkowiski _Lets t@lk 19:59, 20 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

How do I.....?

Thanks for the welcome to Wikipedia. I am pretty low key on here, but lately have had an urge to create pages for some high schools that used to be in my area. I have noticed that Northeastern High School (Indiana) is still in my sandbox, how do I get that out of there to make more pages? Also If I delete a sandbox article before approval, will that take it off the list of those waiting for an approval for completion? Is there a limit on how many articles I can create at one time? Thanks again! Fantasyleaguer (talk) 14:53, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

There is absolutely no limit on how many draft articles you can develop at one time. Here's what you can do: you can create multiple sandboxes in your userspace. To do this, you can create user subpages. Simply navigate to the search bar and type in "User:Fantasyleaguer/Title of Draft", cleverly replacing "Title of Draft" with the title of your draft. This will open up a new subpage for you to develop your article in. You can create as many drafts as you want, as long as you are updating them regularly. When you are finished, type {{subst:submit}} at the bottom of the page, and it will put up for review. Alternatively, you can go to WP:WIZGO and create a draft directly in the Articles for Creation workspace, or even create an article directly in the main article space—skipping the review process altogether. Just to make things clear: Northeastern High School (Indiana) is actually not in your sandbox; your sandbox page redirected to the article because the entire sandbox moved itself to the article page. A redirect was left behind. If this is confusing, don't worry, I have fixed it; the article has indeed been accepted, and your sandbox is now empty. However, if you delete an article submission prior to approval, it will be taken off the review list, so create multiple subpages to get around that. If you are still confused, leave a follow-up below and I'll be happy to clarify. Best, Mz7 (talk) 21:36, 21 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

VisualEditor newsletter—April 2014

Since the last newsletter, the VisualEditor team has mostly worked on performance improvements, image settings, and preparation for a simplified citation template tool in its own menu.

  • In an oft-requested improvement, VisualEditor now displays red links (links to non-existent pages) in the proper color. Links to sister projects and external URLs are still the same blue as local links.
  • You can now open templates by double-clicking them or by selecting them and pressing  Return.  This also works for references, images, galleries, mathematical equations, and other "nodes".
  • VisualEditor has been disabled for pages that were created as translations of other pages using the Translate extension (common at Meta and MediaWiki.org). If a page has been marked for translation, you will see a warning if you try to edit it using VisualEditor.
  • When you try to edit protected pages with VisualEditor, the full protection notice and most recent log entry are displayed. Blocked users see the standard message for blocked users.
  • The developers fixed a bug that caused links on sub-pages to point to the wrong location.
  • The size-changing controls in the advanced settings section of the media or image dialog were simplified further. VisualEditor's media dialog supports more image display styles, like borderless images.
  • If there is not enough space on your screen to display all of the tabs (for instance, if your browser window is too narrow), the second edit tab will now fold into the drop-down menu (where the "Move" item is currently housed). On the English Wikipedia, this moves the "Edit beta" tab into the menu; on most projects, it moves the "Edit source" tab. This is only enabled in the default Vector skin, not for Monobook users. See this image for an example showing the "Edit source" and "View history" tabs after they moved into the drop-down menu.
  • After community requests, VisualEditor has been deployed as an opt-in feature at Meta and on the French Wikinews.
The drop-down menu is on the right, next to the search box.

Looking ahead:  A new, locally controlled menu of citation templates will put citations immediately in front of users. You will soon be able to see the Table of Contents while editing. Support for upright image sizes (preferred for accessibility) is being developed. In-line language setting (dir="rtl") will be offered as a Beta Feature soon. Looking further out, the developers are also working on support for viewing and editing hidden HTML comments. It will be possible to upload images to Commons from inside VisualEditor.

If you have questions or suggestions for future improvements, or if you encounter problems, please let everyone know by posting a note at Wikipedia:VisualEditor/Feedback or by joining the office hours on Monday, 19 May 2014 at 18:00 UTC. If you'd like to get this on your own page, subscribe at Wikipedia:VisualEditor#Newsletter for English Wikipedia only or at meta:VisualEditor/Newsletter for any project. Thank you! Hey there

Look at the Tara Teng page - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tara_Teng

Hi there. Please don't make personal attacks against another editor. The article is well-written; I do not see any neutrality or notability issues. Everything in the article appears to be reliably sourced with an inline citation (the superscript number in brackets). This is the result of good research and article development on the part of the editor who wrote the article, nothing else. If you are interested in becoming a regular contributor to Wikipedia, I recommend getting yourself acquainted with our five pillars and reading the introduction to editing. I'm sorry, do you honestly not see why this behavior is incredibly creepy? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:7:1500:80:D9A6:34F2:324F:24A4 (talk) 15:43, 26 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

What, researching a person in order to write a decent encyclopedia article about them is creepy? Under that logic, all biographers are creepy people. We are here to build an encyclopedia. In order to do that, we need to make sure everything we write is verifiable, in a neutral point of view and not original research. To do all of that, we have to dig deeply into what has been published about a person in reliable sources to produce a decent biography of the subject. This is Wikipedia, an encyclopedia. If you keep assuming editors here are stalking a subject, you may find it difficult to fit in. Mz7 (talk) 00:16, 27 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Dinosaur Train

Hey there. Look, I know you said not to get involved with the edit war on the Dinosaur Train article and, well, apparently, and as you already know, that user is bringing up the same subject again. He/she is starting an edit war and blaming me for the incident. I'm trying not to get involved in it, just so you know. All I've been doing is to click edit and nothing else. I don't wish to keep explain my edit to that user again. Might I suggest we get that article protected so this incident never happens again. - FilmandTVFan28 (talk) 05:14, 28 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. I'm a bit busy this week due to impending exams, so I apologize for my unresponsiveness. I'll try to drop in every now and then to add my two cents. Just to let you know, an admin declined my request for page protection. Best, Mz7 (talk) 03:21, 29 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
