Response to candlepin bowling jargon

Hi there! Just wanted to introduce myself, I'm Jeff. The jargon "goll roll" and "glung glung glung" ARE widely used especially in Maine and a few NH centers and Nova Scotia. Some young guy from Eliot Maine invented the jargon and a few candlepin announcers would say "glung glung" instead of "hammer" on a strike. Yes it used sparingly and I'm sure myself and some other fellow bowlers might have to go around and petition and get signatures to make it a source for Wiki, but I for one think they should be there, they are more commonly used then some of the other words I've seen there! :) I always wanted to edit it myself but I decided i'm best at leaving it alone since the members that keep erasing them obviously aren't from New England and think it's vandalism. Right. I'm from Massachusetts and have never heard of them, but from Wikipedia's perspective, what matters most is what reliable sources say. So if there's a newspaper article or televised show or something more than "a random guy on the Internet says so", then cite the jargon, maybe explain the regionalism of it, and I think it'll be fine. Just people saying "yes it is, no it isn't" over and over isn't getting anybody anywhere. --PeterCooperJr (talk) 23:45, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

	New England Wikimedia General Meeting
	The New England Wikimedia General Meeting will be a large-scale meetup of all Wikimedians (and friends) from the New England area in order to discuss regional coordination and possible formalization of our community (i.e., a chapter). Come hang out with other Wikimedians, learn more about ongoing activities, and help plan for the future! Potential topics: What is a Wikimedia chapter and should we work towards one? Planning of regular Boston meetups (any other New England cities?) Planning for upcoming coordinated events (Wikipedia Love Libraries, Wiki Loves Monuments, Wiknic, etc.) Outreach to universities (WikiProject Academical Village) and cultural institutions (GLAM) Wikimania DC is this summer. Your ideas!

Adrianne Wadewitz Memorial edit-a-thons

As you may have already heard, the Wikipedia community lost an invaluable member of the community last month. Adrianne Wadewitz was a feminist scholar of 18th-Century British literature, and a prolific editor of the site. As part of a worldwide series of tributes, New England Wikimedians, in conjunction with local institutions of higher learning, have created three edit-a-thons that will be occurring in May and June. The events are as follows: May 21st at Northeastern University's Snell Library, in the Digital Scholarship Commons on the second floor May 22nd at Brown University's Rockefeller Library, in the Digital Scholarship Lab June 25th at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (exact location TBA), where we will also be hosting a "how to conduct an edit-a-thon" session beforehand We hope that you will be able to join us, whether you are an experienced editor or are using Wikipedia for the first time.
