==== Requests to revert undiscussed moves ==== |
Revision as of 00:23, 20 March 2024
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
If you are here because you want an admin to approve of your new article or your proposed page move, you are in the wrong place.

- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=reason for move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests
Uncontroversial technical requests
- Hyde End (currently a redirect to Hyde) → Hyde End, Buckinghamshire (move · discuss) – No primary topic, the Berkshire one has 7 views compared with only 6 for the Buckinghamshire one and the Berkshire one is an OS settlement unlike the Buckinghamshire one. Crouch, Swale (talk) 20:51, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- Utman Khel Subdivision (currently a redirect to Utman Khel Tehsil) → Utman Khel Tehsil (move · discuss) – WP:MOR consistency with all other Bajauri tehsil articles, more common/familiar name, further disambiguates from Utman Khel tribal subclan RightQuark (talk) 07:56, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- Pedro Morales Torres → Pedro Morales (football manager) (currently a redirect back to Pedro Morales Torres) (move · discuss) – WP:COMMONNAME is "Pedro Morales" without maternal surname, dab as per WP:NCSP Ortizesp (talk) 02:52, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- The present title appears in some sources, or satisfies WP:NATURALDIS, and is also the Spanish Wikipedia's title for him. I don't think this is Uncontroversial. — Amakuru (talk) 01:35, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- Étaín (Irish name) (currently a redirect to Éadaoin (name)) → Éadaoin (name) (move · discuss) – Éadaoin is the Modern Irish form of the name which is in common use. 2001:BB6:B84C:CF00:116:9D4D:3F1D:DA0D (talk) 00:23, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- I'd like to see some evidence for these assertions before we move the page. — Amakuru (talk) 01:33, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Amakuru I’m going to reply to this one rather than reply individually.
- The original pages use Old Irish spellings in title and my suggestions use Modern Irish spellings, many of the "Irish language" name pages seem to have been made ripped out of this website [1], which lists only medieval names:
- This link shows that Muireann and Aoibheann are among the most popular given names [2]
- Record of Éadaoin's use in 1920s [3]
- This Irish government baby name popularity website [4]
- All listed entries list to Ádhamh, here is record of use in 1920s [5], and official dictionary entry [6]
- Aodhamair isn’t a very common name but the modern variant is (by a large margin) more common than the Old Irish spelling, if you look at the names Aodh and Aodhán (which come from old Irish Áed and Áedán) it shows that Áedammair is not a modern spelling.

- Muirenn (currently a redirect to Muireann) → Muireann (move · discuss) – Muireann is the Modern Irish form of the name which is in common use. 2001:BB6:B84C:CF00:116:9D4D:3F1D:DA0D (talk) 00:23, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- Adhamh (currently a redirect to Ádhamh) → Ádhamh (move · discuss) – all entries listed list to articles relating to an Ádhamh. 2001:BB6:B84C:CF00:116:9D4D:3F1D:DA0D (talk) 00:23, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- Aíbinn (currently a redirect to Aoibheann) → Aoibheann (move · discuss) – Aoibheann is the Modern Irish form of the name which is in common use. 2001:BB6:B84C:CF00:116:9D4D:3F1D:DA0D (talk) 00:23, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- Áedammair (currently a redirect to Aodhamair) → Aodhamair (move · discuss) – Aodhamair is the Modern Irish form of the name which is in common use. 2001:BB6:B84C:CF00:116:9D4D:3F1D:DA0D (talk) 00:23, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- Emmasofia → Psynapse (currently a redirect instead to List of Inhumans) (move · discuss) – The organization changed its name. —Of the universe (say hello) 01:06, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- Southwest University of Political Science & Law (currently a redirect to Southwest University of Political Science and Law) → Southwest University of Political Science and Law (move · discuss) – The official name of the university, according to its constitution cited in the lede, reads "Southwest University of Political Science and Law". Cfls (talk) 18:51, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- General Logistics Department of the People's Liberation Army (currently a redirect to General Logistics Department) → General Logistics Department (move · discuss) – Make shorter (WP:CONCISE, WP:PRECISE) Cfls (talk) 19:01, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- Ntombi (disambiguation) (currently a redirect to Ntombi (given name)) → Ntombi (given name) (move · discuss) – standard disambiguator for given names 2601:5CC:8300:A7F0:5E4:48BE:836F:9F61 (talk) 00:23, 20 March 2024 (UTC)
Requests to revert undiscussed moves
Contested technical requests
- Dune (software) (currently a redirect to Dune (disambiguation)) → Dune (partial differential equations software) (move · discuss) – WP:PRECISE/WP:AT ambiguous disambiguation is a bad idea. Dune (video game) is a piece of software. The current title should point to Dune (disambiguation) which lists various software -- 65.92.247.66 (talk) 09:16, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- The proposed title's disambiguator does not seem WP:PRECISE at all. Steel1943 (talk) 16:05, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- Is this even notable? Assuming it is I agree it should be renamed but would prefer the simpler Dune (mathematics software) * Pppery * it has begun... 20:49, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- I am fine with Dune (mathematics software) ; I am the nominator -- 65.92.247.66 (talk) 20:58, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- Is this even notable? Assuming it is I agree it should be renamed but would prefer the simpler Dune (mathematics software) * Pppery * it has begun... 20:49, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- I don't see this as ambiguous, and the current title is correct per WP:NCVG. 162 etc. (talk) 16:09, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- NCVG has nothing to do with this, since it isn't a videogame. However, both this and the videogame are software, and that is ambiguous. Thus does not conform with WP:AT. -- 65.92.247.66 (talk) 20:58, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- The proposed title's disambiguator does not seem WP:PRECISE at all. Steel1943 (talk) 16:05, 19 March 2024 (UTC)
- Świątek → Świątek (disambiguation) (move · discuss) – Świątek should be redirected to Iga Świątek, and therefore the current disambiguation renamed, as I believe the tennis player is the primary topic. See 1) WikiNav stats, which show almost 100% of outgoing clicks going to Iga Świątek, and 2) pageview analysis for all articles in the disambig, which consistently shows Iga Świątek as most viewed. Iiii I I I (talk) 07:21, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
- This isn't a disambiguation page, it's page about the name. I doubt the tennis player's longterm significance exceeds that of the name itself, some of those listed being centuries old. There is also generally a very high bar for surname only redirects. — Amakuru (talk) 07:26, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, I didn't notice it was a surname template and not a disambig template (or realize those two types are treated differently). Is there a project page that lists the criteria for surname only redirects? --Iiii I I I (talk) 07:59, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
- Agreed. Definitely not uncontroversial. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:21, 19 March 2024 (UTC)

- Corporate (disambiguation) → Corporate (currently a redirect instead to Corporation) (move · discuss) – per MOS:DABPAGENAME and no primary topic. Title moved by a currently-inactive user out of convenience. Intrisit (talk) 19:26, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- What I Am → What I Am (Edie Brickell & New Bohemians song) (move · discuss) – This should be moved because another article of the same name, What I Am (Zayn song) exists, so there should be a disambiguator to mark the difference between the two articles. 18:31, 16 March 2024 (UTC)
- Are you familiar with the concept of a WP:PRIMARYTOPIC? — BarrelProof (talk) 00:25, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- Sinomeganeura (currently a redirect to Oligotypus) → Oligotypus (move · discuss) – Synonymized according to Li et al. (2013).[7] Ta-tea-two-te-to (talk) 08:47, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
- The fact that one source says something doesn't make it an unquestionable fact. Has this synonymization been accepted by most relevant authorities? — BarrelProof (talk) 23:33, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
- Innocent Victims → Civilian casualty (move · discuss) – I disambiguated the former Innocent Victims to Innocent Victims (statue). Now the bare Innocent Victims should redirect to a better target, Civilian casualty proposed. Assuming link targets might need to be changed so using this technical request rather than moving the redirect myself. PK-WIKI (talk) 03:31, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
- @PK-WIKI: I reverted that undiscussed move. Innocent Victims, capitalized and plural, is a proper name. There's no need for disambiguation, especially when innocent victims isn't an article. Note Innocent Victim is also a proper name without disambiguation. Station1 (talk) 03:53, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
- Nishi-Shinjuku Station → Nishi-shinjuku Station (currently a redirect back to Nishi-Shinjuku Station) (move · discuss) – Official station capitalization as per the official Tokyo Metro website. HaapsaluYT (talk) 22:16, 10 March 2024 (UTC)
- Shinjuku is the name of a place, so wouldn't MOS:HYPHENCAPS suggest to use uppercase? Also, I notice that the sign for Hitotsubashi-Gakuen Station also uses a lowercase 'g'. There may be other cases like these, and they should be consistent. On the other hand, there is Higashi-shinjuku Station. — BarrelProof (talk) 01:43, 12 March 2024 (UTC)
- Shinjuku is the name of a place, but so is Nishi-Shinjuku (yes it uses uppercase capitalization). This is a source of inconsistency across Japanese articles. See Shakujii-kōen Station vs Hitotsubashi-Gakuen Station vs Ōizumi-gakuen Station for this issue (all three should ideally be lowercase). Additionally see Higashikurume, Tokyo vs Higashi-Kurume Station, which demonstrates how location names are romanized differently by source. Higashi-shinjuku Station is correct lowercase because it uses official capitalization as per the Tokyo Metro website. HaapsaluYT (talk) 17:50, 13 March 2024 (UTC)

- Milan Smith → Milan D. Smith, Jr. (currently a redirect back to Milan Smith) (move · discuss) – Judge Smith's full name is Milan D. Smith, Jr., as opposed to just Milan Smith. Adg135cg (talk) 18:00, 13 March 2024 (UTC)
- WP:COMMONNAME may be more relevant here, rather than his full name. I see him named three different ways in various reliable sources: Milan Smith; Milan D. Smith; and Milan D. Smith, Jr. If journalists use the basic "Milan Smith" at least part of the time, there seems to be no harm with using that for his article title here. ---DOOMSDAYER520 (TALK|CONTRIBS) 14:36, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- I tend to think of him as "Milan Smith", but that may be because I'd seen this Wikipedia article. @Adg135cg: We don't necessarily go by "full name" (like John G. Roberts, Jr.) unless that is the most common name in independent, reliable sources or unless there is a need to distinguish this article from another article about a person of the same name. This technical request has been contested. As such, it would require a requested-move discussion, which you can begin by clicking "discuss" on your request. You can remove this request after opening a discussion (or if you do not want to continue). SilverLocust 💬 11:35, 16 March 2024 (UTC)

- Blue Hill (restaurant) → Family Meal at Blue Hill (currently a redirect back to Blue Hill (restaurant)) (move · discuss) – The restaurant was been renamed in 2021. Katherinezhang000 16:09, 14 March 2024 (UTC)
- — Katherinezhang000 (talk • contribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic. — BarrelProof (talk) 22:44, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- I'd ideally like to see a bit more usage of the new name in reliable souces, to satisfy the WP:NAMECHANGES requirements... almost all sourcing seems to be under the simple Blue Hills name as far as I can tell, and the proposed name also sounds like a bit of a catchy trade name too... — Amakuru (talk) 11:46, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- I too strongly suspect the patrons and others don't call it by the suggested sloganish name. — BarrelProof (talk) 20:18, 15 March 2024 (UTC)
- Perhaps Blue Hill New York, although slightly ambiguous with both Blue Hill (New York) and Blue Hill at Stone Barns (which is also in New York). — BarrelProof (talk) 23:38, 15 March 2024 (UTC)

- National Intelligence Directorate (Pakistan) (currently a redirect to National Intelligence Coordination Committee (Pakistan)) → National Intelligence Coordination Committee (Pakistan) (move · discuss) – The national intelligence directorate was never actually created. The latest body established in Pakistan for this is the NICC (National Intelligence Coordination Committee) Link 1 Link 2 Wikibear47 (talk) 05:10, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- @Wikibear47: The proposed destination is already an article. Instead of requesting a move, see WP:MERGEPROP for how to propose a merge. SilverLocust 💬 13:17, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

- I've changed the base page to a disambiguation for now, but not sure I'd support a full switch of primary topic. The game seems like it's reasonably notable too. — Amakuru (talk) 07:41, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- A primary topic swap is by definition not uncontroversial. WP:NOPRIMARY is fine. 162 etc. (talk) 21:48, 17 March 2024 (UTC)

controversial (adj.)
1. giving rise or likely to give rise to public disagreement;
2. of or relating to moving an article to a title recently associated with a different article.
- For my part, I'd just say they are almost always potentially controversial.

- Finland–NATO relations → Finland in NATO (currently a redirect back to Finland–NATO relations) (move · discuss) – standardize with other member countries e.g. Canada in NATO RadioactiveBoulevardier (talk) 20:39, 17 March 2024 (UTC)
- This is controversial: see Talk:Croatia–NATO relations#Requested move 4 April 2023. The recent move of Sweden–NATO relations to Sweden in NATO should probably be reverted. Malerisch (talk) 04:20, 18 March 2024 (UTC)
- Oh wow! I was unaware of that RM…since almost anyone can revert an undiscussed move I think I’ll wait for someone to come along…although I think given that almost a year has passed since then a new RM targeting “_ and NATO” would be in order.
