- ALUPEC was recognized[1] by the Cape Verdean government as a viable system for writing the Cape Verdean Creole, becoming the first and only alphabet to attain such status
- The Bank of Cape Verde redesigned the 200 escudo note
- A campus of the Jean Piaget University at Cape Verde opened in Mindelo on São Vicente Island
- Fortim Carlota in the island of Fogo ceased to be a prison[2]
- Several municipalities were created including the breakup of the municipality of São Nicolau into Tarrafal de São Nicolau and Ribeira Brava, São Lourenço dos Órgãos, São Salvador do Mundo and Ribeira Grande on Santiago and Santa Catarina do Fogo
- February: It was reported in Boa Entrada that the kapok tree had died and no longer supported the heron colony.[3]
- February 25: Halcyonair airline founded
- April: Halcyonair started its national flight services
- May 31: Airport expansion of São Pedro Airport (now Cesária Évora Airport) began which took more than four years.[4]
- June 7: President Pedro Pires paid hommage to Sergio Frusoni and declared him one of the Greatest poets in the Cape Verdean Creole language
- June 16-17: French Minister of Cooperation Brigitte Girardin visited Praia and interviewed with the president Pedro Pires
- July 18: Ilhéu de Curral Velho and adjacent coast Important Bird Area became a Ramsar site
- August 12: Prime Minister Neves went on his four-day tour of Brazil
- September 15: Forte do Príncipe Real underwent restoration works[5]
- October 3: An annular solar eclipse took place, it showed around 10% obscuration of the sun in the archipelago.[6]
- October: President Pedro Pires headed to Brazil for his visit
- October 23: The first flight to the new Praia International Airport, the airport moved from Francisco Mendes International Airport,[7] today the airport is known as Nelson Mandela International Airport. Praia's airport became the second airport to serve international or out of country flights, until that time, Sal was the only international airport in Cape Verde.
- November 22: São Domingos's health center for the municipality opened[8]
- December: Bolsa de Valores de Cabo Verde (the Cape Verdean Stock Exchange) started operations
- December 10: Coculi's lyceum opened on the island of Santo Antão[9]

- May 14 - 2005 Cape Verdean Football Championships began[11]
- June 11 - Sporting Praia defeated Estância Baixo 13-0 which made it the highest scoring match at the national championships
- June 25 - the Knockout stage of the 2003 Football Championships began
- July 21 - FC Derby won their third and recent national championship title
- August 14: Clube Desportivo São Pedro Apóstolo, based in the parish that includes Chã de Igreja and Garça de Cima founded
- October 15: CD Travadores celebrated its 75th anniversary of its foundation
