Dota is the 17th canton in the province of San José in Costa Rica. The canton covers an area of 400.22 square kilometres (154.53 sq mi),[1] and has a population of 6,940 (estimate as of 2003).[2] The capital city of the canton is Santa María. It is part of Los Santos Zone, together with Tarrazú and León Cortés Castro.
The canton is delineated by the Río Savegre on the south and southeast, the Río Naranjo on the west and the Cordillera de Talamanca on the north and northeast.

The canton was established by law on July 23, 1925.
