Flag of Upper Silesia
The flag of Upper Silesia is a bicolor of gold and blue.[1]
The national flag consists of two horizontal stripes. The colors of the flag refer to the coat of arms of Upper Silesia, which means that according to the rules of heraldry the color gold of the eagle is at the top and the background color blue is at the bottom.
An identical flag was also used as the flag of the Opole Voivodeship until 2006.[2] Silesian Voivodeship also uses gold and blue. The government flag of the Silesian Voivodeship is a banner of arms with an eagle in a blue field.[3]
Similar flags that also contain the colors gold and blue are the flags of the cities of Opole and Katowice.[4][5] The national colors were used together with the coat of arms of the Upper Silesia Province.[6]
It is a popular symbol of the Movement for Silesian Autonomy.[7][8][9]
