Prof Dr Shahnaz Fatmi (Urdu: شہناز فاطمى; Hindi: शहनाज फातमी; born Shahnaz Bano on 5 January 1949), is an Indian Hindi and Urdu language poet and writer. She used her takhallus (pen names) of Fatmi (Urdu: فاطمى; Hindi: फातमी). She is the daughter of Syed Sultan Ahmed (Behzad Fatmi) and is belong from Shekhpura Village, District Munger (Bihar), India. Her father was Syed Sultan Ahmed, a well known Urdu Poet of his time and Son of Great Poet Khan Bahadur Syed Ali Mohammad Shad Azimabadi[1] and worked as Deputy Collector for Bihar Civil Service. She is also daughter-in-law of well known Urdu poet Raza Naqvi Wahi

Life

Being the daughter of well read family. She got guidance in the house. Her father Behzad Fatmi was in Civil Service and well educated, her big brother Aley Ahmed alias Prof. Anjum Fatmi, elder sister Mrs Imteyaz fatmi were well read and established writers. Hence Shahnaz Fatmi got initial education in the house under the umbrella of her parents/siblings.

Education

Completed her schooling from Siwan, Bihar and High School from Purnea Girl's High School in 1964 and Graduation (B.A Hons.) from Ranchi Women's College, Ranchi, Bihar, India in 1967 and Post Graduation(Political Science) from Patna University, Patna, Bihar in 1969 and Doctorate Degree(Political Science) from Magadh University Patna, Bihar in 1989.

Career

In 1972 Dr Shahnaz Fatmi taught Political Science in R.J.M College Saharsa, Mithila University, Darbhanga. Then she transferred to J.D.W. College Patna a constituent unit of Magadh University Bodh Gaya and promoted as Professor in 1991. Later she got appointed as University Head in Political Science Department in Magadh University, Bodh Gaya, Bihar. In year 2014 she got retired from the post of H.O.D Political Science from J.D.W. College, Patna, Bihar.

Dr Shahnaz Fatmi worked as Controller of exams R.J.M college Saharsa. She also worked as N.S.S Program Officer in J. D. Women's College Patna Bihar and Chief editor of Dipti College Magazine. She appeared in many of the National Channel like Doordarshan, ETV, etc.
