The European Political Community is an Intergovernmental organization for political and strategic discussions about the future of Europe.[1] The group consists of participants from 44 European countries, as well as the representatives of the European Union.[2]

History

The European Political Community was proposed by the French president Emmanuel Macron.[3] In his role as the president of the Council of the European Union, Macron officially presented the project at the meeting of the European Council on 23–24 June 2022.[4] According to Macron's proposal, the aim of the project is to provide a policy coordination platform for European countries across the continent and foster political dialogue and cooperation in order to address issues of common interest, so as to strengthen the security, stability and prosperity of the European continent.[4]

Summits

The first summit is due to take place in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, on 6–7 October 2022.[5] The event is due to be covered live by the Eurovision network.[6]

On 29 September 2022, the United Kingdom announced that it would attend the meeting, and offered to host the next meeting.[7]

It is envisioned that two summits will be held each year, alternating between EU and non-EU countries.[8]
