In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, the firefriend is a type of creature.
Publication history
The firefriend (giant firefly) first appeared in the first edition of Monster Manual II (1983).[1]
The firefriend appeared in the second edition under the "insect" heading in the Monstrous Manual (1993).[2]
Description
A firefriend is a giant, intelligent insect that seeks friendly humanoids as companions. Its glowing abdominal light is normally equal in luminosity to a torch, but can be brightened and concentrated, and can fire a beam of greenish light that damages flesh.
