A total of 13 bonus songs are available for unlocking in the game.[2][3] The bonus songs are largely composed up from bands formed by Harmonix employees (e.g. Freezepop) or local bands from near Harmonix's headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts, many coming from Boston. The exceptions are Flyleaf, Crooked X, and Mother Hips; as well as "Timmy and the Lords of the Underworld", a song by the titular, fictional band from the comedy show South Park. All of the bonus songs are master tracks.

Additional songs
Downloadable songs
The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions of the game support downloadable tracks, including complete albums. Users can download packs or albums in their entirety, or on a track-by-track basis.[4] Downloadable tracks are playable within every game mode,[5] including the Band World Tour career mode.[6]
Song packs containing three songs cost $5.49 (on PlayStation Network) or 440 Microsoft Points (on Xbox Live), while song packs containing six songs cost $9.99 (PSN)/800 MSP. Individual songs are available for $1.99 (PSN)/160 MSP. Some songs have been priced at $0.99 for a limited time before being raised to the standard price, and it has been stated that future songs could cost as much as $2.99. The price for downloadable albums will vary, according to how many songs are on the album.[7] The first album download will be Who's Next by The Who.[8] An unspecified Metallica album, as well as other Metallica tracks spanning the band's entire career, will also be made available for download.[9]
As of February 26, 2008, 59 songs have been made available as downloadable content[10], while three additional songs have been made available exclusively for the Xbox 360 version of the game in the February 2008 issue of Official Xbox Magazine. This brings the total number of possible songs in the game to 117 and 120, for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions, respectively. Rock Band features more available downloadable content items than any other console game. According to the game's publishers, over 200 downloadable songs will be released in 2008.[11] As of January 17, 2008, over 2.5 million downloadable Rock Band songs have been downloaded by gamers.[12][13]
All songs available in packs are also available as individual song downloads on the same date, unless otherwise noted. Since the game's release, at least three new songs have been released each week, becoming available on Tuesdays on Xbox Live and Thursdays on PSN. Dates listed are the initial release of songs on Xbox Live. Songs in bold font are master tracks; others are covers.

"Leaked" songs
On February 13, 2008, a user on the scorehero.com forums claimed to have hacked the "(Arguably) Punk Pack 02" released the previous day.[22][23][24] In the file was a list of song titles, including all 58 on-disc songs and the title of every downloadable song that had been released at the time. The list also included a number of titles for songs that had not been released or announced.
As other gaming sites began to report this list, Harmonix posted the following response to its Rock Band forums[25]:
