Pacific Rim: The Black[Note 1] is an American adult animated streaming television series, based on the Pacific Rim franchise.[1] Developed and co-written by Greg Johnson and Craig Kyle for Netflix and directed by Masayuki Uemoto, Susumu Sugai and Takeshi Iwata, the series was released on March 4, 2021.[2]
Premise
There was a time when Kaiju rose from the Pacific Rim only to encounter gigantic robots, Jaegers, built to fight them back. That time has passed. Now, Australia has been overrun by Kaiju, forcing the evacuation of an entire continent. Left behind, teenage siblings Taylor and Hayley embark on a desperate search for their missing parents, teaching themselves to pilot a battered, long-abandoned Jaeger to help in their quest and give them even the slightest hope of surviving.[3]

Production
In November 2018, Netflix announced that an anime series adaptation based on the films was in the works.[4] It was originally set for a 2020 release.[5] During their virtual "Anime Festival" livestream event in October 2020, its title Pacific Rim: The Black and a 2021 release window was revealed.[6] A second season was also greenlit.[7]
The series is produced by American company Legendary Television,[1] and animated by Japanese studio Polygon Pictures.[8][9][10] Greg Johnson and Marvel Comics writer Craig Kyle serve as showrunners,[8] and Brandon Campbell serves as the series' composer.[11]

Release
Pacific Rim: The Black was released on Netflix on March 4, 2021.[2] A teaser trailer was released on February 1,[13] followed by a full trailer on February 5.[14] A final trailer was released on February 26.[15]
Reception
The review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes reported an 71% approval rating, based on 7 reviews, with an average rating of 7.1/10.[16]
