The Pinephone is a smartphone developed by Pine64, which has previously made laptops and single-board computers. It is a low-spec smartphone, fully hackable, running a range of copyleft-containing Linux mobile operating systems. Many components are screwed rather than soldered in place, such that the phone can be disassembled in five minutes.[citation needed] The phone has some hardware kill switches / security switches, accessible by removing the back of the phone.[3]
Pine Microsystems began taking orders for a gamma "Brave Heart" version on November 15, 2019,[4] for delivery in December/January.[5] The mass-market edition is planned for March 2020.[6]
