Below are select minor league players of the San Diego Padres organization and the rosters of their minor league affiliates:

Logan Shane Allen (born May 23, 1997) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the San Diego Padres organization.

Allen was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the eighth round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft out of IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.[1][2] He signed with the Red Sox and made his professional debut with the Gulf Coast Red Sox and also pitched one game for the Lowell Spinners.

On November 13, 2015, Allen along with Manuel Margot, Javier Guerra and Carlos Asuaje were traded to the San Diego Padres for Craig Kimbrel.[3][4] He started his Padres career in 2016 with the Fort Wayne TinCaps.[5]


Michel Báez

Michel Báez Cruz (born January 21, 1996) is a Cuban professional baseball pitcher in the San Diego Padres organization.

Báez played for the Vegueros de Pinar del Río and the Huracanes de Mayabeque of the Cuban National Series in 2014/2015. He signed with the San Diego Padres as an international free agent in December 2016 for $3 million.[6][7]

Báez made his professional debut in 2017 with the Arizona League Padres and was promoted to the Fort Wayne TinCaps after one start.[8][9]

Kyle Michael Bartsch (born March 10, 1991) is an American professional baseball pitcher in Minor League Baseball for the San Diego Padres' organization.

Bartsch attended L. D. Bell High School in Hurst, Texas, and played for the school's baseball team.[10] He began his college career at West Texas A&M University, where he played college baseball for the West Texas A&M Buffaloes.[11] He transferred to Howard College, and played for the Howard Hawks,[12] and then to University of South Alabama to play for the South Alabama Jaguars. In 2012, Barsch had a 1–4 win–loss record with a 4.26 earned run average (ERA) and 10 saves with 39 strikeouts in 38 innings pitched for the Jaguars.[13] In 2013, he had a 3–0 record with a 3.12 ERA and 12 saves, tying Michael Nakamura for the most in a single season and setting the new school record with 22. He was named second-team All-Sun Belt Conference. The American Baseball Coaches Association named Bartsch to their second-team South Central All-Region squad.[14]

The Kansas City Royals selected Bartsch in the seventh round of the 2013 MLB draft.[12] He played for the Idaho Falls Chukars of the Rookie-level Pioneer League in 2013, where he had a 2–1 win-loss record and a 2.45 ERA in 21 appearances. He pitched for the Wilmington Blue Rocks of the Class A-Advanced Carolina League in 2014, where he had a 5–5 win-loss record and a 2.29 ERA in 41 appearances.[15] On November 20, 2014, the Royals traded Bartsch to the San Diego Padres in exchange for Reymond Fuentes.[16][17]


Rafael De Paula

José Rafael De Paula Figueroa (born March 24, 1991) is a pitcher in the San Diego Padres organization.

In May 2009, De Paula was suspended a year after lying about his age.[18] On November 19, 2010 he signed with the New York Yankees.[19] Pitching for the Dominican Summer League Yankees 1 in 2012, he went 8–2 with a 1.46 earned run average and 85 strikeouts. In July 2013, he participated in the 2013 Futures All-Star game in Citi Field. De Paula tossed a scoreless fifth for the World Team in a 4–2 loss, allowing one hit and hitting a batter but registering a strikeout.

Prior to the 2013 season, Baseball America ranked him as the Yankees 10th best prospect.[20]

On July 22, the Yankees traded De Paula and Yangervis Solarte to the San Diego Padres in exchange for Chase Headley.[21]


Michael Gettys

Michael Edward Gettys (born October 22, 1995) is an American professional baseball outfielder in the San Diego Padres organization.

Gettys attended Gainesville High School in Gainesville, Georgia. He was the Gainesville Times Player of the Year in 2012 and 2014.[22][23] Gettys was at one point considered a potential first round pick in the 2014 Major League Baseball draft.[24] He was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the second round of the draft.[25] He made his professional debut with the Arizona League Padres. In 52 games, he hit .310/.353/.437 with three home runs.


Ruddy Girón

Ruddy Aquino Girón (born January 4, 1997) is a Dominican professional baseball shortstop in the San Diego Padres organization.

Girón signed with the San Diego Padres as an international free agent in July 2013.[26] He made his professional debut in 2014 with the Arizona League Padres. He started 2015 with the Fort Wayne TinCaps.[27][28]


Javier Guerra

Javier Alexis Guerra [gayr'rah] (born September 25, 1995) is a Panamanian professional baseball shortstop in the San Diego Padres organization. Listed at 5' 11", 155 lb., Guerra bats left handed and throws right handed.[29]

Guerra signed with the Boston Red Sox as an international free agent in 2012, coming to terms on a contract calling for a reported bonus of $250,000.[30] At the time Guerra drew mixed reviews for his defense because he had fringy speed, but he showed a very quick first step and excellent range to both sides. He has very soft but lightning-quick hands and is very assured in the field, which complements with a huge arm, perhaps the strongest in the Red Sox system, and can make any throw look easy even from deep in the hole.[29][31]

Guerra made his professional debut with the Dominican Summer League Red Sox in 2013, gaining successive promotions to the Gulf Coast Red Sox in 2014 and the Greenville Drive in 2015. During this time, Guerra improved significantly his offensive game.[29]

In his debut with the DSL Red Sox, Guerra hit a .248 average with nine doubles and 23 runs batted in in 60 games appearances. He then batted .269 with two home runs and 26 RBI in the Gulf Coast League. His breakout season came after joining Greenville, where he displayed his highlight-reel defensive plays at shortstop with the surprising ability to drive the ball.[29]

In 2015, Guerra exceeded expectations at the plate, hitting both for average and power, putting up a .279/.329/.449 slash line with 68 RBI, along with 23 doubles, three triples and 15 home runs in a career-high 116 games, while earning a selection to the South Atlantic League All-Star Game.[29] In addition, Guerra ranked among the best hitters in the Red Sox system, ending second in home runs, third in RBI and total bases (195), fourth in slugging (.449) and fifth in runs scored (64).[32]

On November 13, 2015, the Red Sox traded Guerra, Carlos Asuaje, Manuel Margot, and Logan Allen to the San Diego Padres for Craig Kimbrel.[33] The Padres added him to their 40-man roster after the 2016 season.[34]


Zechariah Lemond

Zechariah David Lemond (born October 9, 1992) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the San Diego Padres organization.

Lemond was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates in the 50th round of the 2011 Major League Baseball draft out of Waltrip High School in Houston, Texas. He did not sign and played college baseball at Rice University from 2012 to 2014. He was both a starter and relief pitcher for the Owls. As a sophomore in 2013, he set a school record for saves in a season with 14.[35] He finished his career with a 12–3 record, 1.90 earned run average (ERA), 155 strikeouts and 18 saves in 62 games (eight starts).

Lemond was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the third round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft.[36] He signed with the Padres and made his professional debut with the Eugene Emeralds. He also appeared in one game for the Double-A San Antonio Missions. He pitched in 12 games his first season with eight starts, going 2–3 with a 3.43 ERA and 36 strikeouts over 42 innings.


Walker Lockett

Andrew Walker Lockett (born May 3, 1994) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the San Diego Padres organization.

Lockett was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the fourth round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft out of the Providence School in Jacksonville, Florida.[37][38] The Padres added him to their 40-man roster after the 2016 season.[34]


Joey Lucchesi

Joseph George Lucchesi (born June 6, 1993) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the San Diego Padres organization.

Lucchesi attended Newark Memorial High School in Newark, California and played college baseball at Chabot College and Southeast Missouri State. He was named the Ohio Valley Conference Pitcher of the Year in 2015 and 2016.[39] He was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the fourth round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft.[40]

Lucchesi made his professional debut with the Tri-City Dust Devils. On July 28, he combined with two other pitchers, to throw a no-hitter versus the Spokane Indians.[41] He ended the season with the Fort Wayne TinCaps.[42] Lucchesi started 2017 with the Lake Elsinore Storm.[43]


Adrian Morejón

Adrian Morejón Garcia (born February 27, 1999) is a Cuban professional baseball pitcher.

Morejón played in the 2014 15U Baseball World Cup, and was named the tournament's most valuable player. He appeared in the Cuban National Series for Mayabeque that year. He defected from Cuba in October 2015.[45] He agreed to a contract with the San Diego Padres for $11 million in July 2016.[46]

Jorge Luis Oña Ugarte (born December 31, 1996) is a Cuban professional baseball outfielder in the San Diego Padres organization.

At the COPABE 18U Pan American Championships 2014, Oña hit .636 with four home runs.[47] In July 2015 he defected from Cuba to pursue a Major League Baseball career in the United States.[48]

Oña signed with the San Diego Padres on July 21, 2016.[49] He began the 2017 season with the Fort Wayne Tin Caps of the Class A Midwest League.[50]


Chris Paddack

Christopher Joseph Paddack (born January 8, 1996) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the San Diego Padres organization.

Paddack attended Cedar Park High School in Cedar Park, Texas.[51] He was drafted by the Miami Marlins in the eighth round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft.[52] He made his professional debut that year with the Gulf Coast Marlins and started 2016 with the Greensboro Grasshoppers.[53]

On June 30, 2016 Paddack was traded to the San Diego Padres for Fernando Rodney.[54] On July 30, 2016 Paddack was diagnosed with a torn UCL. He underwent Tommy John surgery on August 15 and is expected to be out until the start of the 2018 season.

Michael Elliott Reed (born April 27, 1995) is an American professional baseball outfielder for the San Diego Padres.

Reed attended St. George's School in Middletown, Rhode Island. He played baseball, hockey and soccer. Reed was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 13th round of the 2013 Major League Baseball Draft, but did not sign and attended the University of Florida where he played college baseball for the Florida Gators.[55]

As a freshman at Florida in 2014, Reed started 51 of 60 games, hitting .244 over 172 at-bats.[56] After a 1-14 start his sophomore year in 2015, he started wearing glasses on the field.[57] That year he started 69 of 70 games and hit .305/.367/.433 with four home runs, 47 runs batted in (RBI) and 18 stolen bases. After the season, he played for the United States collegiate national team during the summer.[58]

Hudson James Potts (née Sanchez) (born October 28, 1998) is an American baseball shortstop.[59] He was drafted by the San Diego Padres in the first round of the 2016 Major League Baseball Draft.[60] He attended Carroll Senior High School. After being drafted, Sanchez elected to use his stepfather's last name, Potts. He is now known as Hudson Potts.

Fernando Gabriel Tatis Medina (born January 2, 1999) is a Dominican professional baseball infielder for the San Diego Padres organization.

The Chicago White Sox signed Tatís as an international free agent in 2015.[61] In 2016, the White Sox traded him and Erik Johnson to the Padres for James Shields.[62] After the trade, he played for the Tri-City ValleyCats of the Class A-Short Season New York–Penn League.[63] In 2017, he played for the Fort Wayne TinCaps of the Class A Midwest League.[64][65]


Christian Villanueva

Christian Iván Villanueva Limón (born June 19, 1991) is a minor league baseball third baseman in the San Diego Padres organization.

Villanueva signed with the Texas Rangers as an international free agent on August 17, 2008. He was traded to the Chicago Cubs along with Kyle Hendricks in 2012 in exchange for Ryan Dempster.[66]

Baseball America rated Villanueva the 100th best prospect in baseball prior to the 2012 season.[67] Villanueva is regarded as a glove-first third basemen. Fangraphs' Dan Farnsworth rated Villanueva the Cubs 21st best prospect prior to the 2015 season.

Villanueva broke his right fibula during spring training in 2016 and missed the whole 2016 season.[68] He was non-tendered on December 2,[69] and signed a minor league contract with the San Diego Padres.[70]


Brad Wieck

Bradley Michael Wieck (born October 14, 1991) is an American professional baseball pitcher in the San Diego Padres organization.

Wieck attended San Jacinto Christian Academy in Amarillo, Texas. After high school he attended Frank Phillips College and was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 29th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft.[71] He did not sign with the Phillies and transferred to Cisco College. After one year at Cisco, he transferred to Oklahoma City University and was drafted by the New York Mets in the seventh round of the 2014 MLB Draft.[72]

Wieck made his professional debut with the Brooklyn Cyclones and started 2015 with the Savannah Sand Gnats.[73] In June he was acquired by the San Diego Padres as the player to be named later in an earlier trade for Alex Torres.[74] He pitched for the Fort Wayne TinCaps and Lake Elsinore Storm after the trade. Wieck pitched 2016 with Lake Elsinore and the San Antonio Missions.[75] After the season, he played in the Arizona Fall League.[76]
