In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy roleplaying game, the scarecrow is a type of fictional monster.

Publication history

The scarecrow first appeared in the original first edition Fiend Folio (1981).[1]

The scarecrow and the conscious scarecrow appeared in second edition for the Greyhawk setting in the Monstrous Compendium Greyhawk Appendix (1990),[2] and both were reprinted in the Monstrous Manual (1993) under the "golem" heading.[3] The Ravenloft scarecrow appeared for the Ravenloft setting in Monstrous Compendium Ravenloft Appendix (1991), and was reprinted in Ravenloft Monstrous Compendium I & II (1996).

The scarecrow appeared in Dungeon #84 (January 2001). The scarecrow, the conscious scarecrow, the dread scarecrow, and the quested scarecrow appeared in third edition in Dragon #355 (May 2007).

The scarecrow appeared in fourth edition in the Monster Manual 3 (2010).[4]

Description

The scarecrow is a magically animated construct created by wizards and other masters of secret lore to guard important places or treasure.
