Shaun Donovan (born January 24, 1966[1]) is the current head of the New York City Department of Housing Preservation and Development. On December 13, 2008, in his weekly national radio address[2][3], United States President-elect Barack Obama announced that he would appoint him to his cabinet, to head the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.[4]

Born in New York, Donovan earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Harvard University, studying public administration at the John F. Kennedy School of Government and architecture at the Graduate School of Design.[4]

During the Clinton administration and the transition to the Bush administration, Donovan was Deputy Assistant Secretary for Multifamily Housing at HUD, and was acting FHA commissioner. He became New York City's housing commissioner in 2004.[5][4]

During the 2008 United States Presidential campaign, Donovan worked for the Obama campaign.[1]
