This article is very skeletal, there really isn't very much elaboration on any of the points made. He has multiple social theories that could easily be added and described. Some of his contributions are named, but are not properly described, and someone who does not have a good level of background knowledge in the field would not be able to grasp what he has done. A picture of him would really help as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by EmHenn11 (talkcontribs) 23:18, 7 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

There is very little information in this stub about the person in question. Despite having a good list of sources and references it ends rather abruptly. The resources and bibliography section seem to be pretty much in order and there is definitely the framework for a good article already set up. I'm going to see if I can find any more information so I can elaborate on Wenger's work and life. Feel free to post any suggestions. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bizzarefth (talkcontribs) 19:53, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

This article has very basic information, but there has to be more personal and professional information that can be included. For instance, I am aware that Etienne Wenger has numerous published works, but they are not mentioned in this article. Furthermore, the quality of this article may be improved if a picture of Wenger could be obtained. I think it would be helpful if we could elaborate on his previous works, and the impact his projects brought, while also trying to validate claims made in the article, such as confirming that Etienne Wenger is on the board of recommendation for the Kaospilots Netherlands. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Cardosr1 (talkcontribs) 22:03, 30 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I've found some scholarly criticisms and more expansive studies of Wenger's work, most notably with communities of practice. The links are as follows. http://www.jstor.org/pss/2634938 http://informalcoalitions.typepad.com/informal_coalitions/2010/01/ralph-stacey-and-etienne-wenger-3-on-wengers-use-of-abstract-concepts.html — Preceding unsigned comment added by EmHenn11 (talkcontribs) 05:28, 17 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I have come upon a few sources that may help improve this article. They consist of an interview that could provide more personal information about Etienne Wenger, as well as a book review which expands on his ideas about communities of practice in his book Cultivating Communities of Practice. The references are as follows. "Etienne Wenger." T+D 65.4 (2011): 96-97. Academic Search Premier. Web. 18 Dec. 2011. Holford, John. "Cultivating Communities Of Practice: A Guide To Managing Knowledge." International Journal Of Lifelong Education 22.4 (2003): 422-425. Academic Search Premier. Thanks Ed, this isn't a big issue and it won't be any injustice to him if we Americanize him, but the problem of Étienne without the accent is that it generally says "South African." But Wenger isn't South African, he's Swiss-French, and there's no evidence that he's now an American citizen, nor that etienne Wenger is functioning as a WP:STAGENAME as might be the case with a French DJ in America, which under WP:FRMOS requires the full accurate spelling of the name.

etc. etc. etc. It seems pointless to enter into a beauty-contest to count how many Australian, American and British sources follow WP:FRMOS, there are enough sources which are out there which do treat him as Swiss-French, and he is Swiss-French, so either our nationality category is wrong, and we remove WP:SWITZERLAND banner and make his bio a WP:CALIFORNIA article or we follow WP:FRMOS. etc. It may be that the PDFs and HTML which make up the bulk of Google Scholar have more of a habit/problem of leaving off majuscule accents than paper books. A brief look at the Spanish surname Álvarez shows the same thing happening. But again this is their problem not ours, it isn't en.wp's job to reproduce orthographic weaknesses.
