I'll review this class project within the next few days. I do got a history degree and I'm familiar with race relations in sports, being the subject of my senior thesis. Welcome to Wikipedia all of you and I hope you decide to stay after this article is done, I'll be willing to help out any of you guys! Thanks Secret account 20:04, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

'm failing this article as the prose isn't GA quality and I got some problems with the sources.

  • "under the condition that the African American player, David Showell, would not play" grammar, "the" should be an
Disagree; there was exactly one, and "the" seems correct here. Dicklyon (talk) 21:03, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • "Lafayette needed to win more games in order to achieve a bowl bid." How many more games, and bowl bids back then were because of popularity not committee, so I recommend to source or remove that sentence.
  • "capping off the regular season with a record of 7 wins and 2 losses." Remove the second mention of the record, finish the sentence off with ..."capping off the regular season".
  • How can a source whose year states it comes from 1945 source a paragraph of an event happening in 1946? There must be some error there, fix.
  • "exclude the Leopard's black player, David Showell." Showell is already mentioned in the previous section, so there is a bunch of redundant wording just say "exclude Showell."
  • "The Lafayette students, who were excited to see their football team put an end to its twenty-six year bowl game drought," What was the previous bowl game, bowl game was a relatively new novelty back in the 1940s, please clarify.
  • Terry Kitchen is a folk singer-songwriter who grew up in Easton, PA on College Hill, the home of Lafayette College. The second half of the sentence, after PA is unneeded as the main text already mentions Easton as the home of Lafayette, remove.
  • "the phone call between Lafayette's President." - President should be lower cased.
  • All the citations need to be formatted according to our manual of style, book references need to have a ISBN number, templates such as Template:Cite news and Template:cite web should be used. Both fair use images are valid, and free images are correctly tagged as free.

There is too many problems for it to be near GA level. It needs a proper copyedit and I'm not entirely certain about the sourcing. Once these issues, especially concerning the referencing is fixed, I'll review the article again for GA status. Thanks Secret account 17:35, 1 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator: Thank you for all the feedback Secret! I've made the changes you suggested and resubmitted the article for GA. Thanks again Jaironerao (talk) 18:26, 2 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'll review this article shortly. Wizardman 14:52, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Here are the issues I found:

  • For referencing, #7 needs a publisher, #17 needs a page since it's a book citation, and #18 needs to be fleshed out; not overly keen on using his home site as an RS but if that's all that can be found it'll have to do.
  • I'm not sold on the Sun Bowl logo here as fair use, would prefer removal as it doesn't help the article much. Showell's picture is more acceptable as fair use, but the rationale on the image page needs to be better. "To identify" doesn't cut it. As a side note, if the image is from a yearbook, then it may be public domain if there was no copyright placed on it; it would be worth researching that.
  • "7 wins and 2 losses" write seven and two out.
  • Showell doesn't really need his own section. His part can be placed in the 48 season, plus if there's any statistical info on his season that would be a nice addition.
  • In the demonstration section, the last couple sentences in paragraph one essentially repeat what the rest of the section is about, making it confusing. Reword/cut the first para.

I'll put the article on hold for a week, and will do a re-read to make sure there's no further issues at that time. Since the main author hasn't edited in a few months hopefully someone else can step in and make the fixes. Wizardman 15:17, 5 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Nominator: Jaironerao (talk · Hi Wizardman, thank you for reviewing our article. I am the main author, but the article was actually written as part of a class project at Lafayette. I have been working on the changes you suggested. I’ve updated the references, but for #18 I'm not sure how to flesh it out. There is a paragraph on the home page of the website that talks about the song he wrote so I tried to add a quote from it into the reference. I wasn't sure how else to flesh it out more so let me know if you have any recommendations. We took the Sun Bowl logo from the wikipedia article for the SunBowl, but I have removed it since you thought it wasn’t Fair Use. I’ve also updated the rational a bit on the David Showell picture. I work at Lafayette college and was given permission to use that photo by the college archivist. I just wanted sure how to communicate all of that information into the photo page. For the David Showell section when we originally wrote the article the section was much longer, but since then someone else external to the college split out the David Showell section into it’s own article. That is why we left the subsection there. I’ll speak with the professor who I worked with on this article to see how he want to handle it. I also cleaned up the demonstration section so that it makes more sense.Jaironerao (talk) 14:27, 6 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'll do a re-read through tonight or tomorrow and see if there are any remaining issues; almost forgot about this. Wizardman 15:12, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

I'm still not entirely convinced Showell needs his own short section as is, but if you're sold on it then it's not a big deal to me, and I can let it stay in. Everything else checks out now, so I'll pass the article. Wizardman 14:06, 19 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
