I shall be reviewing this article against the Good Article criteria, following its nomination for Good Article status.
Checking against GA criteria
[edit]- It is reasonably well written.
- a (prose): b (MoS):
Can we do something about the white space immediately below the Schedule heading, Perhaps arrange the pictures horizontally across the page as in Roster?Done- I was viewing at 1600 wide and did not see any. However, when I resized my window to see what it might look at on a smaller screen, I see what you mean. I have done as suggested.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 03:29, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
- The article is generally reasonably, and engagingly, well written, but there are a few places where a tweak is needed. Overall, I see a tendency to write in a "sports tabloid" style which doesn't equate with good encyclopaedic style. Please remember that not all readers will be familiar with the American sports jargon.
The team played its home games in Ann Arbor, Michigan at the Crisler Arena, which has a capacity of 13,751, for the forty-third consecutive season.[1] This season marked the team's ninety-third consecutive season as a member of the Big Ten Conference. The team finished the season with a 15–17 overall record and a 7–11 conference record, which was tied for seventh in the conference. Can we find a variant on the word "season" here? it is rather over-used. try reading that out loud.Done- I alternated with two years and two seasons.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 06:01, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
The team was in its second year off of scholarship probation , but continued to be prohibited from affiliating with implicated athletes (Chris Webber, Robert Traylor, Maurice Taylor, and Louis Bullock) until 2012, which means, among other things, that the players cannot help the University recruit. "off of probation" Not very clear, can this be explained better? Also a change of tense in the latter part of the sentence.Done- Fixed.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 04:05, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
- I consulted the source and clarified things further. –– Jezhotwells (talk) 18:37, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
It is the specific phrase "second year off of scholarship probation" that is problematic. It doesn't mean anything to me - surely it should be just "second year of scholarship probation" without the off? Or am I missing something here?Done- It should not be "second year of scholarship probation". The phrase is meant to say that the scholarship probation had ended two years prior.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 17:14, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
- Fixed.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 04:05, 19 April 2010 (UTC)
- '
'...was a disappointment that included two buzzer-beater losses to conference Co-champions.. - I added a wikilink for "buzzer-beater", as I didn't understand the term at first. Please bear in mind that some readers may not be familiar with American sports jargon.
- Feel free to point out other terms. I am so familiar with basketball lingo, I feel like I am talking regular English and may need to be reminded.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 23:25, 14 April 2010 (UTC)
Based on verbals and very early signings, Big Ten Conference rivals Indiana, Minnesota and Illinois have top 25 signing classes, but Michigan does not according to both ESPN and Scout.com. The team is the choice of four blue chip prospects who followed through on their verbal commitments and signed letters of intent including Matt Vogrich and Darius Morris.[10][11] The 6 ft 4 in (1.93 m) 180-pound (82 kg) Morris is listed among the top 15 point guards in the nation by Scout.com, Rivals.com and ESPN. The first sentence of this section "was" in the past tense. These sentences "are" in the present. Please pay close attention to this. Consistency is needed. Tense changes are confusing for readers. The succeeding sentences revert to the past tense, and then the last sentence is back in the present tense.Done- Fixed.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 13:50, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
The team began December competition in the ACC – Big Ten Challenge by losing to Boston College 62–58.[41] The team ended its three-game losing streak by beating Arkansas - Pine Bluff. Two successive sentences starting with "The team". And then, Michigan rebounded as both Harris and Sims posted season highs with 27 and 23 points respectively in a 75–64 win over University of Detroit Mercy.[44] Michigan fell to 1–21 all-time against number one ranked teams when it lost to Kansas - two sentences starting with "Michigan".Done- fixed.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 13:47, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
The Wolverines won the January 14 rematch against Indiana behind 17 second half points from Harris and 20 points and 8 rebounds from Sims. "behind 17 second half points"? can this be phrased better?Done- Fixed.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 03:31, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
On January 26, the Wolverines hosted Michigan State who needed a Kalin Lucas basket with 3.5 seconds to play to earn the win, which was a school-record first eight consecutive conference games. "a school-record first eight consecutive conference games."? Should that be a singular "game"?Done- fixed.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 03:35, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
On January 30, Michigan finished the month with a 60–46 win against Iowa To snap its three-game losing streak. Harris and Sims both contributed 20 points. Is this meant to be two separate sentences.Done- Just got sloppy.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 06:03, 17 April 2010 (UTC)
On February 16, Michigan recovered from a 5-point deficit in the final twenty second on late shots by Sims including a three-pointer with 6.1 seconds remaining. Is the first instance of "second" meant to be plural?Done- Fixed.--TonyTheTiger (T/C/BIO/WP:CHICAGO/WP:FOUR) 13:44, 18 April 2010 (UTC)
