I didn't find anything in a cursory search through the archives, but it's surprising that it's not mentioned, so checking here before adding it. Banedon (talk) 00:57, 16 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]
this is a photo being used as a source for "and Michigan State basketball head coach Tom Izzo dressed as Leonidas at one student event";
Prose
"Iranian criticism" section - repetition of ideas and quotes in completely different parts of the same section. This section needs a copyedit to keep the narrative focused.
1)"From its opening, 300 also attracted controversy over its portrayal of Persians. Officials of the Iranian government denounced the film." and then "The film's portrayal of ancient Persians caused a particularly strong reaction in Iran. Various Iranian officials condemned the film."
2)"The Iranian Academy of the Arts submitted a formal complaint against the film to UNESCO, labelling it an attack on the historical identity of Iran." and then "and a group of Iranian film makers submitted a letter of protest to UNESCO regarding the film's misrepresentation of Iranian history and culture."
3)" Iran's cultural advisor to president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has called the film an "American attempt for psychological warfare against Iran"." and then "An Iranian government spokesman described the film as "hostile behavior which is the result of cultural and psychological warfare"."
4)"and the fictionalized portrayal of Persian King Xerxes I has been criticized as effeminate. Critics suggested that this was meant to stand in stark contrast to the portrayed masculinity of the Spartan army." and then "Reviewers in the United States and elsewhere "noted the political overtones of the West-against-Iran story line and the way Persians are depicted as decadent, sexually flamboyant and evil in contrast to the noble Greeks"." - this is the same idea at play, needs to stay in the same paragraph.
Lack of academic sources in the article, discussing themes/politics/production/cinematography of this widly popular film:
Film and the Classical Epic Tradition, Joanna Paul - 2013, example;
Masculinity and monstrosity in contemporary Hollywood films, K Combe, B Boyle - 2013, example;
The Epic Film in World Culture, R Burgoyne - 2010, example;
Ancient Worlds in Film and Television: Gender and Politics, AB Renger, J Solomon - 2012, example;
Special Effects: New Histories, Theories, Contexts, D North, B Rehak, MS Duffy - 2015, example;
Chromatic cinema: a history of screen color, R Misek - 2010, example.
In the past three months, although edits have been made, none have addressed the problems brought up. Also, the plot section is a little-bit above the 700-word WP:FILMPLOT limit, and the reception section is a quote farm of a small percentage of the actual critical reception.
