Track & field

[edit]

APOEL doesn't have a track and field branch, the only track and field team based in Nicosia is ΓΣΠ (Γυμναστικός Σύλλογος Παγκύπρια)

Transfers

[edit]

Please wait for transfers to be confirmed before adding them to the list.

Article style

[edit]

Please note the guideliness at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Football/Clubs when you edit the article. For example international players should not be bolded. Anarxia (talk) 09:21, 26 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]

About the colors

[edit]

The yellow on APOEL's emblem does not symbolize Cyprus but Byzantium. APOEL was founded in 1926 when no Cyprus flag existed (in which indeed there is yellow colour but the Cyprus flag was created in 1959) and the flag of the Cyrpiots was the Greek one. In addition 1926 is only 4 years after the Asia Minor Catastrophe and it is more likely the yellow to symbolise the revival of the Byzantine empire — Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.228.239.246 (talk) 15:13, 27 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Provide sources for the above claims. Your word doesn't count. I didn't remove it, but added "citation needed". --Tco03displays (talk) 03:41, 25 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Change "Schwartz" to "Elek Schwartz" under managers, for full name.

Yves155 (talk) 23:38, 19 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Not done I have reasons to believe it is not the same person. Elek Schwartz was Romanian, while the Schwartz listed there is Israelian. Furthermore, in 1954-1955 Elek Schwartz was coaching the German team SF Hamborn 07. Zidanie5 (talk) 05:18, 20 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Shouldn't his FIFA eligibility flag be Cypriot instead of Greek as he has been capped by the Cyprus in official FIFA competition? For example, he played for Cyprus against Portugal on September 3rd, 2010 in UEFA Euro 2012 qualifying. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 63.231.155.231 (talk) 17:49, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Seems about right to me--Pears767 (talk) 15:11, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]
His appearance here in UEFA qualifying would make him ineligible to play for Greece despite his nationality. Thus, his flag should by Cypriot. [1]--Pears767 (talk) 15:22, 20 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Fanscruff

[edit]

There is far too many irrelevant back of house employees listed. No-one outside of Nicosia (and even there I doubt anybody would care) could possibly see the relevance of their accountant, or the sponsorship boards around the pitch! Salty1984 (talk) 15:42, 9 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

[edit]
The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: moved. Recall that the MOS says, "The letters in an acronym are generally not separated by periods (full stops) or blank spaces." No compelling reason for an exception to the general practice has been given, and consensus supports the move. Xoloz (talk) 17:57, 7 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

APOEL F.C.APOEL FC — Most sources refer to APOEL FC, not APOEL F.C. (see their Official website and UEFA page). 18:30, 25 May 2014 (UTC).

Add the year 2014 to the following:

"Football[4] Cypriot Championship Winners (22): 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1940, 1947, 1948, 1949, 1952, 1965, 1973, 1980, 1986, 1990, 1992, 1996, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013"

And also put the year 2013-2014 and 1st (champions) in the box at the top right corner of the page

separate article for APOEL FC in Europe page?

[edit]

The main page is a fair size, I was wondering if European competitions record and the rankings should be moved to a separate page something like APOEL FC in Europe. Govvy (talk) 23:59, 6 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Well for any editors with this article on their watchlist, I did the move of what I suggested above. Hope it helps. Govvy (talk) 20:59, 13 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Apoel fc staff

[edit]

Most of the staff listed in this article(players, coaches, doctors, scouting directors etc.) have been replaced a long time ago. However, there has been no update on the page since early 2018 and it’s a shame as APOEL FC are a team participating in european competitions and foreign people search for it on Wikipedia. Supporters

[edit]

I think we should mention that there are neo-nazis in APOEL. Also we should mention hate speech and attacks againsts turkish cypriots.

Sources:

  • [2] page 34
  • "The main problem is located in three popular teams, which are historically connected with the ideological / nationalistic right of the political divide: primarily APOEL from Nicosia, Apollon from Limassol and to a lesser extent, Anorthosis from Famagusta". From Preventing racism, xenophobia and related

intolerance in sport across the European Union - RAXEN Thematic Study on Cyprus, Nicos Trimikliniotis, Cyprus Country Report: Racism in Sport

  • [3] here one more RS commenting APOEL and various nationalistic incidences.

I understand most of wikipedians here are fans of APOEL. It is crusial not to brand all supporters of APOEL as neonazi, but we should pick words carefully to depict the problem/situation (for some it may not be a problem at all) as per RS. Cinadon36 20:16, 3 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]
