A New Account of the Tales of the WorldShishuo Xinyu – "Shishuo Xinyu" is used basically everywhere except for translations of the book. Searching for "Shishuo Xinyu" on Google produces way more results than a search of "New Account of the Tales of the World", which only gives book listings and Wikipedia mirrors. • Oppose. Per WP:NCBOOK and WP:UE, the translated name is exactly what we should use. 162 etc. (talk) 17:23, 14 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Except that NCBOOK says that when a transcription or transliteration of a title originally not in Latin alphabet, is better known, and/or less ambiguous, that version of the title can be used. And WP:UE does not mean "translate the term", but it means to use the most common name in English-language sources. Mucube is claiming that the sources predominantly use the Chinese name, we should use it. There is nothing in NCBOOK and UE that the requester's argument contradicts. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 20:01, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
However, @Mucube should back up their argument that '"Shishuo Xinyu" is used basically everywhere except for translations of the book' with evidence of English-language articles referring to the book by the Chinese name, e.g. with quoted examples of such usage. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! Relisting comment: Can the requester's assertion that '"Shishuo Xinyu" is used basically everywhere except for translations of the book' be proven or disproven by examining English-language articles about the subject? — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 20:12, 21 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
