A fact from Abie Nathan appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 2 May 2007. The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that Israeli pilot and peace activist Abie Nathan landed his plane in Egypt in 1966 in an attempt to deliver a message of peace to President Nasser?
(2) His Tel Aviv restaurant was called 'California'
(3)'Flying in his plane, which he named Shalom 1 ("Peace 1"), he landed in the Egyptian city of Port Said on 28 February 1966. Arrested upon landing, he asked to meet Egyptian president Gamal Abdel Nasser, and to deliver a petition calling for peace between Israel and Egypt. He was denied, and was deported back to Israel, where he was arrested again for leaving the country by an illegal route (source New York Times)'
He wasn't apparently arrested. It was reported in Israel that he had been shot down, until word came that he had landed in Port Said and had been greeted by the Egyptian governor. After talks, his request to meet Nasser was turned down, but the Egyptian authorities refueled his plane and allowed him to take off home, back to Israel.'
