Exhibition games

[edit]

Having played in two exhibition games to apparent acclaim, Adnan clearly warrants creation of this page. His performances are starting to draw mainstream media interest. For example, The Guardian cites Giggs praising Adnan's performance: Giggs is enthused about... youngsters headed by Wilfried Zaha, Adnan Januzaj and Jesse Lingard, who were the brightest lights here in the Rajamangala National Stadium. "I am excited. Adnan did well – he looks a really good prospect," said Giggs of the 18-year-old Belgian debutant who stepped into the injured Wayne Rooney's No10 berth and sparkled with his quick feet and willingness to find space before fading in the sultry heat after the interval. "He has trained with us quite a bit in pre-season and did well again. Now it is just about having that experience and learning from the older players and doing what he does best. You don't want to get ahead of yourself. He is only young."[1] x (talk) 13:16, 20 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I think the last couple of sentences there sum up my position. "You don't want to get ahead of yourself. He is only young." A lot of players have made impressive starts to their careers in friendlies but then never make a first-team appearance. Januzaj may yet be one of those. To suggest otherwise would be a violation of WP:CRYSTAL. – PeeJay 13:35, 20 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

number of goals?

[edit]

Has his total goals for Manchester United been updated since the Sunderland game? I seem to recall Januzaj scoring a goal earlier this season and now the two v. Sunderland. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 182.173.212.21 (talk) 06:59, 6 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Goals during pre-seasons are not counted as they are not competitive goals. He scored in a pre-season game against Kitchee.

Article contradicts itself on whether he can play for England

[edit]

The first paragraph of the #International_career section says:

"He is also eligible for England, due his residency status."

And the last paragraph says:

"despite wide-spread press coverage, the player would not meet the requirements to play for England"

The latter has two references (which I haven't checked), so I'll delete the former but I've no knowledge of this subject so I hope someone sees this and can confirm. Gronky (talk) 21:34, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

While I was writing this, someone else deleted that part of the first paragraph. Gronky (talk) 21:35, 7 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Please include a picture of Adnan on the first page. Preferably one of him on his debut vs Crystal Palace. This would help identify him. Ollyrahimi96 (talk) 23:28, 17 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality

[edit]

I have explicitly put Januzaj's nationality as Belgian. This is because of three reasons. First of all, it was announced today that Januzaj has chosen to play for the Belgium national football team. Second, he was born in Belgium. Third, he is a Belgian national.

For me it is fine to state that he has Kosovar-Albanian roots, but I think the matter is decided upon now and we should refrain oruselves from choosing a way too diplomatic description of his nationality as of now.L E X commons (talk) 17:32, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

On April 23rd 2014 Adnan Januzaj decided to represent Belgium in international football. "I have received official confirmation that Adnan Januzaj has made himself available to the Belgian national team," said Belgium national coach Marc Wilmots on Twitter. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.100.88.47 (talk) 17:44, 23 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Not done - see the section immediately above - you will need to start a discussion on this page and reach consensus before it is changed. Arjayay (talk) 10:17, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

In what way is Januzaj Albanian? His parents are Albanian, sure, perhaps even Kosovar, but Januzaj was born in Belgium, grew up in Belgium and now plays for the Belgium national team. He's Belgian. – PeeJay 10:55, 21 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Delete/shorten eligibility sections

[edit]

Now that he has chosen Belgium, there is far too much content on who he "could" represent and his actual career with Belgium is lost in the middle of it. I propose putting it all in a short paragraph at the start of the International career section and then continue with who he is actually playing for.

I totally agree with reshaping into a short paragraph with reliable references for every country he was linked to, ending in his decision. Kareldorado (talk) 05:05, 27 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

However, on June 4, 2014, this cap was erased by FIFA, as coach Marc Wilmots made seven substitutions instead of the permitted six. Reference: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/worldcup2014/article-2648442/Adnan-Januzaj-Belgium-cap-taken-away-FIFA-wipe-Luxembourg-friendly-win-record-books.html

He received his first cap two weeks later in a friendly against Luxembourg.

Category:Kosovar footballers

[edit]

I know that the Balkans is a touchy issue, but as Januzaj was born in Belgium and plays for Belgium, is this category appropriate? One would not call Ross Barkley a Nigerian footballer from his heritage. '''tAD''' (talk) 00:38, 8 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Januzaj was given the number 11 shirt for the 2014/15 season, previously worn by Ryan Giggs and first wore it in the first game of the Barclay's Premier League season against Swansea City.

I wan't to add a personal life section that Adnan Januzaj is a Muslim footballer who observes during Ramadan. [1] (Go more down in the website of the source to find the info). Joey Whittacker (talk) 07:36, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not done for now: The source doesn't say if he is going to observe the fast or not, all it says is "Some of the other remaining Muslim players at the World Cup include... Adnan Januzaj". All we can draw from that is that he is Muslim, which is already mentioned in the article. Cannolis (talk) 13:27, 20 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Request to confirm photo

[edit]

I don't know Mr. Januzaj's face well, but I do recognize the jersey worn in the photo (i.e., black, with Adidas stripes in red and yellow and the old RBFA badge) as the keeper's jersey for that squad. See for example the page for Simone Mignolet, their second string keeper that year, who is wearing the same jersey. The Red Devils' outfielders' kits that year were red for home and yellow for their second colors.

Is it possible the picture here is not Januzaj but instead Koen Casteels, who was their third keeper that year? I don't know Casteels' face well, either, but I don't see how Januzaj would have been wearing a keeper's jersey as a forward at that World Cup.

Thanks! - Ndovu (talk) 03:20, 26 February 2024 (UTC)[reply]
